Year 5 Weekly Blog 6.1.23 ' A beautiful smile is the best universal welcome'

Just like that, we are back at school again after an exhilarating Christmas break! I hope you all had a brilliant Christmas and a happy new year. It has been brilliant to see all of the children again and for them to walk back into class with a huge smile on their faces. A short but sweet week back at school and the children got straight back into the swing of the classroom routine, picking up their work from where they left.

We started the week with an introduction assembly from our new head teacher Mrs.Gregan, who is just as excited as the children about starting her new role. Today we celebrated the Epiphany in Church, as a whole school, to remember when the 3 wise men made it to Bethlehem. We ended the week in assembly as well to introduce a new and exciting extra-curricular activity- Judo. This will be available for all of key stage 2.

Today, we have had a demonstration for the judo club that will be taking place on a Friday morning at school. This club is a 5 week club. There is a cost for the club, but Mrs Gregan has agreed to pay half of the fees for each child meaning that the cost for each child will be £14 for the course instead of £28.

There is a limit to how many children can safely attend, however, we will be able to continue the club after half term for those children not able to take part this time. Please complete the form below if you would like your child to take part. We will let you know the groups for the club early next week and then set up a payment on Parent Pay to pay to attend.

Notices

There will be lots of sports clubs and competitions available this term for Year 5 children. The spring timetable for sports is now available on the school website. If interested in the clubs listed, please check the timetable for the time and date of these clubs/events.

  • All Girls’ Football Tournament- Has been rescheduled for Monday 9th January. This will be at AKS from 1:30pm-3:30pm. Children are to be picked up from school at 1:15pm. The children that have been selected for this have already been notified.

  • Indoor Athletics Competition- Will take place on Tuesday 17th January at Stanley Park Sports Centre in Blackpool. If interested, please attend the athletic training sessions, which take place at 8am before school starts. The dates of these sessions are available on the sports timetable.

  • TTRS- Will be up and running on Tuesday, after Mrs Hotchkiss gives the class a briefing on the rules and responsibilities of using the the application.

  • Accelerated Reader (AR)- Apologies for the technical issues with AR, Mrs Gregan has addressed the situation and the system should be working fine on Monday. A reminder to all that quizzing is only to be done in school hours but regular reading should be done at home to develop the children’s reading progress. Next week, the children will be re-doing their star reader assessments, in which their ZPD scores can potentially increase, therefore allowing them to access a greater amount of books.
