REMEMBER TO ACCESS ALL OF THE VIRTUAL SUPPORT ON ‘HOW TO HELP YOUR CHILD’

Year 6 Weekly Home Learning - Wednesday 30th March 2022

With just 5 and a half weeks until the end of year assessments, we have ramped up learning in class. The children are very clear about what they need to do and the areas that they need to develop. I have updated the ‘How to Help Your Child’ button on the Year 6 page. There are lots of resources for the children to access as well as the revision boxes that are in the classroom.

Maths - Please complete the reasoning paper that I sent you home for homework. There is a good mixture of questions in the booklet that will challenge your reasoning. Read the question carefully!

GPS - Have a go at the GPS paper that I have sent you home for homework. I will also be giving you a random spelling test based on the spelling rules that I sent you home in your revision folders.

Geography - Edinburgh

Imagine that you have visited Edinburgh for the weekend. Write a postcard back home telling them about all of the wonderful things that you have been up to!

Year 6 Home Learning - Wednesday 16th March - REVISION

Message to Parents

This year really is flying! The children are being asked to work incredibly hard in class and our pace of learning is incredible. As always, the children are rising to every challenge that they are being set.

After this week, we have 7 weeks until our assessment week. Maintaining a balanced curriculum is really important to me. They have to experience learning in all of the other subjects as well as the increased focus on maths and english. There has been huge progress made in these areas because the children are so motivated and determined to do well. Each morning, children visit the revision boxes in the classroom and help themselves to the resources that they know they will need to consolidate in each subject area. The revision folders that the children have should be now bursting with material.

Intrinsic motivation and the children being determined to succeed will inevitably lead to their success. Effort breeds success.

Please do get in touch if you need any more support. I had so many conversations with you at the book look in the hall and parents’ evening - your constant support is appreciated!

REVISION

This week is all about consolidating what you have learnt this year (and from Year 3), practising those skills that you know you need to and celebrating what you can do well.

Tomorrow, you will be able to take home your GPS, Reading and Maths revision folders, as well as your spelling book. Use these resources carefully to identify areas that you know you can pick up marks next week.

GPS - what spellings are you getting incorrect? Is there a common theme? Could you use a different strategy to embed them? Which grammar areas are you struggling with? If these areas haven’t been taught yet, don’t worry, if they have, what do you now need to do to understand them further?

Use IXL to search for key areas that you need to practise further.

READING - You have another reading paper to have a go at, this time it is poetry. Have a go alongside looking at where you need to pick up marks on previous papers. Is it a case of not using evidence? Do you need to look closer at vocabulary?
