This weeks spellings have focused on homophones and other words that are easily confused. The children have written some tips to help them remember the difference between some of the similar words. The first 8 spellings are the spellings we have done this week and the other 4 are homophones we have previously done.

Spellings this week are focusing on a different way the ‘ee’ sound is spelt in particular words. These spellings focus on the sound ‘ei’. The first 9 words are the spellings with the ‘ei’ sound and the other 3 spellings are words we have previously done.

Children to learn these spellings for their weekly spelling test on Wednesday. The children also have a copy of these spellings in their homework books. For practicing at home, the children can look up the meaning of the word and create sentences to help them practice and remember these words.

Reading-PRIORITY

To read a minimum for 20 minutes a day at home every day. The children have been given personal reading targets for their books (post it notes) so they can work towards achieving them.

Year 5 Home Learning- To be handed in on Tuesday 27th September

This week your homework is in your homework books.


Reading- PRIORITY

To complete 20 minutes a day at home of reading. Children are to read their chosen books from school and then they can quiz on their books in school, when they have finished the book.

English/RE

This week we introduced our new RE topic of ‘Stewardship of the Earth’. Over the next few weeks, we will look at how we damage the earth and how we can fix these problems through biodiversity etc. The homework will be to read through their recycling information leaflet and then use this to answer their questions.


Maths

There are two question sheets to complete for maths this week. The first will be an arithmetic sheet, which will include multiplication , division, addition and subtraction questions. The next sheet will be rounding up to 100,000.


Year 5 home learning to be handed in on Tuesday September 20th

Reading- PRIORITY

You all have your ZPD scores and have chosen a book from the library. I am hoping to see lots of children ready to quiz on their books on Monday morning. Please can you read for 20 minutes a day at home. If there are any words that you are struggling to pronounce or do not know the meaning of, please ask your parents.


Maths

Last week in Maths, we have been doing place value and learning numbers up to 100,000. This week we have been looking at rounding numbers to 10, 100, 1,000. Please complete IXL Maths A2, A7 and A13.


History

The children have loved our learning of Ancient Greece. We have been looking at famous parts of Ancient Greece and their importance. Create a leaflet on purple mash about Ancient Greece. Include all the information that we have learned so far.


English

This week we have completed our first piece of story writing. The children have re-written parts of the Greek myth- The Minotaur and the Labyrinth. We have focused on character and setting description by looking to improve our adjectives. Please can you find 5 synonyms for these words:

A synonym is a word which is similar to another word. If you are struggling, you can use a thesaurus online.
