Imagine you are sending your troops into battle, can you write your own speech using the language that Elizabeth used in hers. Use hers as an example but innovate it to make it your own. I am looking to see a Year 6 standard of writing that includes cohesive devices for this genre of writing, advanced punctuation for effect and excellent language. What is the purpose of this piece? How does your language fit that?

Year 6 Home Learning - Wednesday 11th December

Spelling - These are the next set of common exception words that need to be learnt.

Maths - Please complete C1, C2, C3, C4, C5 and C6 on IXL. These all involve the multiplication strands that we have been working on. Continue with C15 and C16. Please can you complete these ready for Monday 6th January 2020.

Science - There are two Purple Mash tasks to complete. These should have been started in school, please finish them at home. As always, please think about the quality of your writing and what we have been working on in class.

History - Thinking about the skills and the information needed to complete the newspaper report on the Battle of Bosworth, can you create a newspaper report on the execution of Anne Boleyn.

I want to see the following information included:

Where it happened? Who was involved? When did it happen? Why did it happen? What happened?

Can you also include an interview with someone involved?

Year 6 Home Learning - Wednesday 13th November

Another busy week in Year 6 provides us with some great learning opportunities. The standard of homework is getting better and better…keep it up Year 6.

Spelling - next week’s test will be a review of all of the spellings that we have covered so far this year. It is really important to revisit frequently so that spellings become habitual.

Remember to keep looking at the Year 5 & 6 common exception words - I may throw a few of these in too!

Maths - in the coming weeks, we will be hitting multiplication and division. It is absolutely crucial that you all know your tables inside out and back to front! I want you to really focus on these over the next few weeks aiming for an immediate recall on any question.

What an improvement in the standard of homework, it is so lovely to see the efforts that the children are putting in. The work on the Battle of Bosworth is great!

Spelling: words ending in -ence. Remember, the words that we looked at last week were adjectives, they are now turning into nouns.

Maths - continue to work through strand B on IXL. Please do not worry if you are finding some areas tricky, I can see from the analysis which areas you are finding difficult and we can look at it in class.

History - Using the research that you completed on the Battle of Bosworth last week, can you turn this into a newspaper article on Purple Mash. Think carefully about the fonts that you are using and the format of your work. Remember that your work is all about detail. I want to see depth to your writing. I would like to see:

• Who was involved in the battle?

• Where did it take place?

• When did it take place?

• What happened at the battle?

• Could you include a quote of someone who was there? Use your imagination.

English - can you find 10 facts about William Shakespeare that will contribute to our biography on him next week.

Maths - Over the next two weeks, can you finish strand B of IXL maths. These are all on addition and subtraction. Use your homework book to jot into.

History - The Battle of Bosworth is one of the most important battles in English history. It led to the War of the Roses, and planted the Tudor house on the throne of England. Henry Tudor, (Henry VII) became King of England.

What can you find out about this important battle? Complete some research in your homework book.

English - This week we have started to look at biographies as part of our writing phase. Can you find a biography online, of someone who interests you? Think about the ones we have looked at in class. It doesn’t need to be long - just informative.

Half Term Homework for Year 6

Just a few tasks to keep you ticking over the half term so that you are ready to dive straight back into learning when you get back.

Spelling - go over all of the spellings that you have had this half term. Which ones did you find tricky? Which ones did you struggle to remember. Make sure you have mastered these.

Maths - after half term we will be focusing on addition and subtraction before moving onto multiplication and division. Which times tables are you struggling with? Practise these to get yourselves to the point where you can recall them really quickly.

Year 6 Homework 2nd October 2019

English - work your way through strand B1 - B6 on IXL English. This is due to be completed next week.

Spelling - fasten, apostle, hasten, glisten, moisten, thistle, whistle, mortgage, Christmas, wrestle.

I will then test you on 10 random spellings from the last 4 weeks. Keep looking at them as well.

Geography - this is due in next week. I would like you to collate information on one of the South American countries. Things like: size, population, landmarks, food etc. Record in your homework book. We will be using technology to bring this information to life. Make sure that you have some of this information ready for next week.

Maths - A10, A11 and A12. These are all negative number work. This will be our focus in class.

Art - In art this week, you will be completing observational drawings. This is something that can be done on a computer as well. There is a to do set on Purple Mash - choose and object and bring it to life. Experiment with a range of tools. Remember that this is a piece of art.
