Year 4 Thursday 9th July Learning from Home with Mrs Hotchkiss

Thank you for all your thoughtful work related to our beautiful planet!!

Today we turn to our first topic in Year 5 - The Ancient Greeks! I believe you love history and you know all about the Vikings!!! At the beginning of Year 5 we study the Ancient Greeks. Unlike other groups in Ancient times these people didn’t really live in one country together. Greece is so mountainous and has thousands of islands that the population was split into lots of smaller cities. It was not easy to travel form one to the other and each island and “City State” had its own ruler and laws. These cities sometimes fought against one another too. We study the Ancient Greeks because so many parts of their culture (the way they lived) has influenced the way we live today (democracy and the Olympic games)! They were also great mathematician and inventors - they even invented the idea of history itself - recording events for people in the future to learn from.

TASK 1 WHO WERE THE GREEKS?

Grab your English book ready to make notes. Write this subheading:

Who were the Ancient Greeks? Now click on the button to visit the BBC Bitesize page. Write down what you have learnt from this reading.

TASK 2 THE OLYMPIC GAMES

Once the Ancient Greeks moved past the dark ages they began to work more closely together and they invented the Olympic games!!! Again place a subheading in your English book and write down the key information for the BBC Bitesize page! Take this learning further. Click onto the Purple Mash link and visit your 2do’s here you will find a fact sheet to complete all about the Olympics - use your research to complete it!

TASK 3 PE CHALLENGE

The Ancient Greeks are not the only civilization to love sport! Girls we can join in this PE!!!! The Lancashire team have set us a new PE challenge this week. Click on the link below to take you to our school sports page. Mrs Gregan has faithfully helped us all stay active - thank you Mrs G !

TASK 4 ART

One of the reasons we know so much about the Ancient Greeks is because Archaeologists has used artifacts and ruins to piece together a clearer picture (just like detectives). The Ancient Greeks used a lot of pottery and on those vases and jars they drew pictures of Live in Ancient Greece. Click on the button to study pictures of real ancient vases - can you see how they depict the Olympic games? I have also gven you a blank vase to print out or copy so that you can produce a vase of your own- what part of Ancient Greek life will you show? Take care with colour you have to use Brown/orange and black!!!

White Rose Summer Week 1 Compare Decimals

History

Today, for history, you have to prove that Vikings were maybe not as bad as everyone says. Not everything we hear about them is true and perhaps there is more to them than bloodthirsty warriors.

Look at the slideshow below where you will find numbered sources of evidence - that prove different things about Vikings.

Look at your statements about Vikings and pick the appropriate source which proves that fact. Write the number in your table.

The answers are below.

You may find it easier to print out the sources so you can look at them all at once and decide which would fit best. Some prove more than one thing about Vikings.

Year 4 Home learning for Tuesday 23rd June

English

Welcome to your first Viking myth. It would be really good if you could read it aloud to a grown up. You need to read up to and including page 9 then answer the first sheet of questions.

WE ARE FOCUSING ON INFERRING CHARACTERS’ THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS in this comprehension

Then continue to read the rest and answer the second sheet.

I have included the answers so you can self-mark. Your answer might not be in exactly the same words as mine. Use your best judgement to see if you are saying the same/similar thing but in different words!

Maths

Today I have done you a revision video of all the things you have learned about decimals. I want you to have your maths book in front of you and take part in all the guided practice screens I do with you.

It is a bit long - so you may want to do half then have a little break. But you must focus and follow the progression.

Then you have a nice bit of Art.

Art

Please look at the Art page to see what Mrs Curtis wants you to do today!

Year 4 Home learning for Monday 22nd June

Good morning Year 4!

Watch the video of me below - (Jinxy cat is in the background having a wash. Don’t let her distract you!)

Then watch the film ‘How Odin created the world.’

Then I would like you to recreate Yygrasil, the tree of life, drawing and labelling the different worlds as you go down the tree. I would love to see pictures of these - please send!

Today’s lesson is dividing 1 or 2 digit numbers by a hundred.

Remember what you know about place value. When you divide by ten all numbers jump one place to the right.

How many jumps to the right will you make to divide by one hundred?

Today you are going to be finding about the 7 Sacraments. Then I have set you a blank book template 2do in Purple Mash to make your own book about the sacraments.

  1. Read the information and then watch the video

  2. Create your book
