Read moreLunchtime has been somewhat quieter over the past two weeks and we have been missing you all terribly
Read moreEven though many of us have been apart this this week, there has been a great sense of togetherness through our shared Class blogs on Purple Mash! I think we have all loved sharing thoughts with each other this week and children, you have responded to each other with respect and interest! From deciding whether children should wear school uniforms, to deciding which is best out of cats or dogs - you have made fantastic arguments and have dived into this new experience with gusto! I know Miss Forster and Mrs Mather have loved keeping in contact with you through blogging this week and I’m sure you will agree they have helped you with any problems too!
Whether remote learning or home learning, the standard and amount of work has been phenomenal this week. We have learned the language of persuasion and wrote some amazing letters in English this week. Watch out parents - they can work their powers of persuasion on you even more now!
We have covered some important multiplication and division skills in maths. Children have researched Judaism and produced lovely slideshows showing what they have learned. You are all becoming so skilled at using the computer or tablet to communicate your learning - I know there have been some teething problems with some of the maths sheets - but everyone has given it their all. I will be making them simpler to fill in next week!
You have also asked your teachers and classmates for help on our blog. We have all given advice and pulled together.
This week has also seen the launch of our Egyptian topic - which I know in school we are loving so far. I hope you are at home too! It is such a vibrant period of history!
Thank you so much for the effort and sheer hard work you are all putting in, both children and parents.
Our school learner of the week goes to Kiefer. You are receiving a Clara Clownfish certificate for the links you make and the way you consider the best approach in your learning. Your letter was fantastic and you listen to every word said! Well done young man.
It was really difficult to award the home learner certificate this week because you have been so fantastic!!!
Our home learner this week goes to Jack for having a go at everything set. Also for improving your work after you have received teacher feedback - so you get a double whammy Tommy Turtle/Lizzie Ladybird certificate!! I will send your certificate to you!
School learners!
There are some changes to your PE days from now onwards - we have needed to jiggle things about to accomodate all classes.
PE in school is now on a Monday and a Thursday.
Recorder lessons in school are now on a Thursday.
Home learners - you will continue to do this on a Monday.
It is so comforting in this time of hardship to feel part of our wonderful school community. Although we miss seeing each other, we are all pulling together helping those beautiful children continue to grow and thrive - thank you.
Have a restful weekend everyone, God bless and keep safe
Mrs Lyons, Mrs Mather and Miss Forster
And what a community we have got, what a class family we have. All week, I have such a smile on my face because of the beautiful work that is being produced by all of the children. It doesn’t matter where the children are learning, they are constantly responding to feedback, trying their hardest and producing some outstanding work. I am incredibly proud!
Read moreGood morning everyone. We hope that you have enjoyed this week’s learning and you are ready for today’s lessons.
Work hard. Be focused and make sure that you send your work through to us so that we can see what you have been doing. Which learning characters can you be today? Don’t forget to be kind and co-operative with everyone at home too.
We have started two new Class blogs just for you children so that you can keep in touch with us and each other while we are all learning differently. They are on Purple Mash. You can put comments on and talk to your teachers and friends you need to
Log on to Purple Mash
Press the sharing tab across the top (it has a globe picture).
Click on the blog called ‘Year 3 Learning 2021’ or the one called “The Iron Man”
To add a comment press on the green and white add button.
Press save and publish.
As always children we need to be safe, sensible and smart online. We are looking forward to talking to you, please feel free to ask us questions if you are unsure about something.
How is your reading going? What is your progress towards your target? Keep up with your daily 30 minutes of reading (at least!) Has anyone made their own little rainbow display to move yourself up as your reading progresses? We would love to see a photo of them.
There are some children who haven’t taken any quizzes yet, if we can help you in any way please let us know. (Remember to access Accelerated Reader through the orange ‘How to help your child’ button on the main page of our Year 3 blog - scroll down and click on the Accelerated Reading Quiz button.)
Today we would like you to complete some maths fluency and some IXL.
IXL
Please complete strand J.3 on Year 3 IXL. It is some practise on those subtractions we have been doing as most children find subtracting more of a challenge than adding. Well done to Connor-Sean, Christian and Rosa who have been doing lots of IXL questions already this week. You are little stars!
Fluency
Have a look on Purple Mash and complete the maths fluency sheets on the 2Dos. Click on each 2Do (there are 3 of them - you could do them at intervals throughout the day) and you will see the fluency sheet, just as you would see it in class.
For each sheet ask your grown up to set you a timer for 7 minutes as that is what we do in school, do not worry if you don’t get it all finished. Hopefully you will get more fluent and therefore quicker by the third time. You will need to set them out in your maths book as you will need the squares for the addition and subtraction ones, do this before you set the timer.
To write your answer with the pens on Purple Mash, please make sure that you use a narrow pen width so that your numbers are clear. Make sure that you save them and hand these in, so that we can mark it and give you some feed back.
Today in English we are going to have a look at the beginning of chapter 3. We will be reading 2 parts of the text and I have added them on the buttons below if you want to look at them or refer back to the text , although they are both on the video too. Remember to stop the video and complete the independent work. Don’t forget to send photos of your work please.
Today in science we are continuing to look at nutrition and we will be looking at the digestive system. The lesson could be a bit messy today - you might need an adult to help you when you do the experiment part. Enjoy!
I have added the powerpoint below for you but I have also added a PDF version if that is easier for you.
There is also a sheet to complete where you have to label the digestive system. If you go to Purple Mash I have created a 2Do for you to do this. Don’t forget to save and hand it in once you have completed it. Thank you.

Read moreWell done for all your hard work this week so far children! Your persuasive letters are looking really good!
English
Today, listen to some more of Charlotte’s Web - we are coming towards the end! Listen carefully.
Your tasks today are all about that pesky rat, Templeton!
Task 1 I have set up a blog post - Is Templeton a hero or a villain in this story? Discuss. I want you to go on this blog and put your opinion. Try to give me two or three reasons why you think this. Also try to use your persuasive language from your mat.
For instance,
I think Templeton is a villain. It is certain that he does not care about the others in the barn. In addition, he is selfish, dirty and mean. Surely you would agree that he is the bad character from the story?
You may have mixed feelings about him. You may be able to put both sides of the argument across. Read what your friends have put and see if you agree!
Task 2 - Draw a picture of a plump Templeton surrounded by food at the fair! Put adjectives and extended noun phrases around the outside to describe him, eg a gluttonous rat with an enormous belly!
If you take a photo of your picture you can send it to me - or you can upload it to your computer and then use 2publish to add it and save it as a file in Purple mash. Have a go! I wonder if there is a way of adding your picture to the blog post??
Maths
Today we are practising our 6x table - building on the work we did yesterday. See if you can master them. Complete the guided sheet below with the video. Then do your independent sheet in Purple mash.
( It would be great to practise them in TTrockstars as I have set it for the 6x tables.)
Reading
Read today and over the weekend. If you have finished your book, make sure you quiz please on Accelerated Reader.
RE
Don’t forget to finish your slideshow.
Have a lovely weekend Year 4 - I miss you!

Week 2 - Day 4
Read moreGood morning everyone. We hope that you are all feeling happy. Just look at this elephant. - I think he looks very happy.
Thinking about our science again - what is an elephant? (carnivore, herbivore or omnivore?) Do you know how many teeth an elephant has? Have you ever seen an elephants tooth?
We hope that you enjoy today’s learning. We are looking forward to seeing your work from today. Don’t forget that you can send photos of your work to us using Purple Mash.
Don’t forget to spend at least half an hour each day reading and then quizzing, there has been super progress towards reading targets and we just wanted to celebrate some children. We just wanted to do a couple of shout outs. Currently, Rosa and Franek have taken 4 quizzes each since we returned to school/learning after Christmas. Well done you two! Happy reading and happy quizzing everyone, keep up the great work.
.Today we are going to complete our spelling challenge. Watch the video to see what the spelling challenge is this week and then complete the activities in your book. Don’t forget to send me some photos of your work.
Here is today’s maths, you are little super stars!
Computing
Here is the second lesson of your computing, have fun!
You will see that I have used a date in my photos that says 2020, I tweaked the lessons that I taught in lockdown last year so this time I haven’t just been a silly sausage. Although the children at school keep politely telling me I am putting 2020 on the end of my dates on the whiteboard for them by mistake, it’s a good job you’re an observant bunch! Silly me!

Today year 4, I want you to type up your completed persuasive letter to Mr. Zuckerman on Purple mash. I have set you a 2do to do this!! It will be good for your typing skills too.
I will be expecting to see all of the persuasive sentence starts, dramatic, emotional language and the structure of a persuasive letter that I have taught you this week through your lessons. You can, as you are typing it up, make it better and include more. Use the persuasive language mat from Monday to help you.

Here is your maths video and the guided sheet to fill in as we go along. Then your independent sheet is on Purple Mash to fill in.
