It has been a busy week, so I would like the focus to be on reading. I am so pleased that all the children have an enjoyment for reading. They are excited to read in school and are enjoying their reading challenge. Please keep it up. Just a reminder it is one box per day.

Maths

We have just begun our big division topic which is closely related to our times tables. Regular times tables practice will be needed to help your child access the content. There are lots of fun times tables games to play online such as Hit the Button, Maths Bingo and TTRS.


Kindness Homework

As we have now swapped our Lenten boxes with our Year 2 partners, the children will now need to fill these boxes with money earned from acts of kindness. The children are to write a list of the acts of kindness they intend to carry out in order to raise money. This may also include doing some extra chores around the house to help you parents!

This week...

A huge welcome back to every one. We missed everyone.

As Lent began during the holidays it has been a bit of a catch up week. It can be of no surprise that most of the week had been dedicated to walking alongside Jesus during His last week. The children have been visibly moved by the Easter story, which as prompted some in depth discussions. One of the questions was “when did God die?” One for Father Peter I think… we will write it in his book.

In our mission to be more like Jesus our Lenten promise wall is full of the qualities we aspire to maintain each day. The children are filling our Lenten Heart by being kind, loving, thoughtful and giving. We are all trying to put others needs before our own, just as Jesus would do.

We have contributed to the whole school Stations of the Cross by depicting the stations 2 and 9. Take a look at our interpretations. Take a look.

Thank you to everyone for bringing in your Lenten boxes. They have now been successfully swapped with our class partners and sent back home. We have talked about completing acts of kindness each day and in doing so collect money that can be donated to our chosen charity, Cafod. Cafod is an international development charity who reach out to people living in poverty with practical help, whatever their religion or culture. CAFOD is the official aid agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales and part of Caritas International.

Through their global Church network, they have the potential to reach everyone; campaigning for global justice, so that every woman, man and child can live a full and dignified life.

A worthy mission, let’s work together to make it a huge success and to help as many people as we can. In anticipation, thank you.

Lucky Number 7

This week we have been excited to meet Number 7. Click here to watch.

In this episode the children discovered the relationship between Seven and the other Numberblocks. It gave us the opportunity to practise counting numbers to 7nandto say their ordinal names (first, second third) 7 is also related to the number of the colours of the rainbow and the days of the week.

As with previous numbers, Seven is created through adding one to the previous number, combing 6 and 1. Each consecutive number is one more than the previous one. The children are also beginning to compare 7 with other numbers; seven is taller than six; 7 is one more than 6.

Hello everyone,

Welcome back, I hope your all had a wonderful break. We have got straight back into growing our brains and having lots of fun.

We started off this week talking about Lent and it has been lovely seeing all of your amazing lent boxes coming in that you have worked so hard on, so thank you. The children were very excited to swap their Lent boxes with year 3.

We have made a heart that represents our lent promise, and the children have come up with words that relate to this promise such as loving, kind, helpful, patient and many more. The children each get a smiley face stamp on the heart each time they show they are representing one of these words and are so proud when they get a stamp. 

Mrs Gregan has asked the nursery to help make a part of the Stations of the Cross for the school and has given us stages 2 and 9. The children have been very busy painting and helping to bring them to life. 

We have been looking and talking about the 14 Stations of the cross, and reading the Easter story. The children are shocked to hear how Judas made a bad choice, and very sad to hear what Jesus had to go through. But as the children say, it has a happy ending when Jesus “was alive again” Here is a link for the Easter story.

As you may have seen, our nursery garden is having a bit of a makeover and the children have been very excited watching all of the building works that's been going on. The children can't wait to play in their new garden. 

We have been on a walk around the school grounds, looking for signs of Spring. I know, you are all saying 'it's too early', but we found daffodils, crocuses, daisies and snowdrops. We also tried to find some birds nests; we didn’t find any though. The children had so much joy in finding them.

This week we have met number 7. We have been working out with our fingers how we can make 7 in different ways. The children have also enjoyed having a go at writing the number 7 as well.

Hello everyone and welcome to this week's blog.

I hope you all had a lovely restful week at half term.

This week we have been consolidating our previous knowledge of the letter sounds we have learnt so far. We had done so well!

We have revisited the letter sound ' p' and watched a video of Geraldine the Giraffe and we could think of lots of words that begin with this sound.

Why not have a hunt for things in your house that begin with 'p'

We were very excited this week to watch as our garden is undergoing a bit of a change. It looks very exciting and we can't wait to try it all out. This has not stopped us from going outside as we have visited the castle, investigated signs of spring in the environmental garden and we have even been invited to use reception's outside space too. Thank you Mrs Hartley.

We are now in Lent and we have been exploring the Easter Story. We have tried really hard to be like Jesus and his disciple to earn a stamp on our Lenten promise wall. Although the story of Jesus makes us sad we know that it has a happy ending.

Our crafts this week have mostly involved reflecting on Jesus’s journey to crucifixion.

As usual nursery has been frantically busy again, but we just love growing our brains. Added to all our learning everyone has been keeping a special eye on the building works that are happening in our garden…we are so excited!!!

Year 3 Weekly Blog 23.2.24 - ‘We’ve been to the Roman Museum and now the sun is out. This is the best day ever!’

We have had a very busy week in Year 3! Our Class Worship was led by Lucia, Mia-Grace and Rodnie, they read The True God (Kings 12:16-19) and chose the hymn Mary did you know for us to sing together. The children listened thoughtfully as they shared the prayers they had written. Thank you for leading our class worship, you will be our prayer monitor until next week.

Welcome back to the second half of the spring term. There is no doubt that it is going to be a busy term with lots and lots going on. I am really excited that we will end the term with an Easter assembly. It will be a lovely way to bring our class family: parents and children together.

This half term, we are focusing on the virtues of being compassionate and loving. There is so much love in our school and especially our class and I am so grateful for all of your wonderful children and how hard they are all working. Keep supporting them at home with their daily reading, completion of homework and of course attendance, it is such a crucial time, that we can not miss any learning opportunity!

This week has been a different week, as I was unfortunately poorly earlier in the week, but the children continued to workb hard and show the supply teachers just what polite, well-mannered and compassionate children they are!

Turning to the Cross

This week, we celebrated the start of Lent at mass with our Reception parnters. This was such a beautiful time, of deep prayer and reflection.We also have now exchanged our Lenten boxes with Reception, ready to collect money for Cafod during Lent. It was so clear how much effort all the children had put in to when creating their boxes and they loved getting together again to give it to their partner.

Being an active and curious learner.

I am sure the children have come home to tell you that they have had their first paper back from their grammar. This was such an exciting and worth-while learning journey, where we have been through the paper, celebrated achievements and even mistakes- as the mistakes we make are what we truly learn from the most! I would like to remind all of you that this process is not to label or to level your child, as we have not yet completed the whole curriculum, we simply do this to ensure your children are familiar with the layout, formatting, style of questions and of course to learn what is expected of them. The children have had the chance to think about what areas they know they need to work on now and reflect on what progress they would like to make next time- marginal gains are always the best way! We were so proud of the children’s maturity and resilience during this feedback time.

Leading Learners

Well done to Georgia and Emilia this week.

Georgia we are so proud of your attitude towards your learning and your drive to succeed. You really are such a resilient Sadie Spider! You just have not given up in Maths this week, in an area that you found really difficult! But you stuck with it, tried your best, reflected on mistakes and strived to not let it beat you with great results!! Keep working on those times tables with the same resilience and then you will be unstoppable!

Emilia, you are so focused during lessons, managing your distractions and getting lost in each task. Your work always reflects your capabilities, but also you’re creative, and we love the way you never stop at what is expected from you, you always challenge yourself to take your learning to the next step! We love your enthusiasm and enjoyment when approaching French lessons- thank you for passing on your enthusiasm to others!

Love and Compassionate butterflies

This half term we will be on the lookout for all the children that stop and notice how others are experiencing their lives, and how they feel, and why they say and believe what they do.  Ultimately, it is what makes us kind and, at a deeper level, opens up the possibility of being loving through our just and merciful actions and forgiving words. This week we thank Connor-Sean for always being compassionate and loving with others.

This ‘magical object’ could be linked to the character you’re dressed up as, but it doesn’t have to be- but be prepared to share your story and get creative! This half term we will be looking at trifold leaflets, with the intention of making our own leaflets about The Romans. Your homework this week is to find 3 facts about The Romans that you could share with the class and perhaps include on your leaflet.


Reconciliation and Holy Communion Programme

Today, marks the start of the children’s preparation to receive the very special gift of the eucharist in May. Throughout the next term, the children will be asked to think deeply about their faith and their commitment to the church before receiving Jesus via the Eucharist in May.

On Sunday, it is the Welcome Mass for all children and families. Those who are taking part in the programme will be expected to attend 9.30am mass so that Father Peter can welcome you all formally as part of the programme. During this week, Mrs Lyons and the class will be making something for them to bring with them, ready to display in church. It is a really special mass and it is so important that all children who will be making their First Reconciliation and Holy Communion make time to attend.

The formal sessions will then start for the children next Thursday and will run on the following dates from 3.30-4.20pm:

Father Peter has asked to change the parents’s session due to him being called out of the diocese next Thursday. The parents’s sessions will now take place on the following dates from 3.30-4.20pm in school:

Thursday 25th April - Holy Communion

This programme does require complete commitment from the children so that they will have that knowledge and understanding about what they will be doing and the significance of what they receive - it is so important and part of their sacramental journey.

Reading Challenge

The children are excited to start the reading challenge just a reminder it is one box per day. This will enciuarge the children to read regulary and it will help develop their fluency.

The QR codes are great too there are videos to help your child practise their sounds, If you need the code again let me know.


Lenten Boxes

In the lead up to Lent, we have been thinking about how we can support others in our local community. It has become an Our Lady’s tradition to make and swap Lenten boxes. This year, each Year 1 child will make a Lenten box that they will give to their buddy in Year 4. Year 4 will also be making a Lenten box for Year 1.

We kindly ask that these boxes are made during the half term break and brought back to school by Wednesday 21st February. Year 1 have brought home a note today in their reading folders to give them some ideas for decorating the Lenten box for their buddy.

Once swapped, these Lenten boxes can be used to collect donations for acts of kindness.

Year 5 Weekly Blog 09.02.24- It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light'

And just like that, we have reached halfway! It is crazy to think that we are already halfway through to the year-with the focus on Easter after half term which will then take us into summer. It has been a huge week of reflection as we celebrated both ‘Internet Safety Day’ and ‘Children’s Mental Health Week’. On Tuesday, we joined in with the rest of the country for a BBC live lesson which focused on the use of AI and what it is used for in daily life. We then looked at social media and compared each app to its age restriction- in which we discussed why this is and dangers that can arise from using social media.

On Wednesday, we opened the discussion about mental health and talked about what this means and how it is different from your physical health. The children then shared their own strategies which they use to help cope with stress in their life- no matter how big or small. On Wednesday, we also had the luxury of the afternoon out at St Bedes- in which we watched a pupil production of ‘The Lion King’. I was pleased to see the children take inspiration of the talent and hard work on show from the high school pupils.

On Monday afternoon, Year 5 took part in another enrichment afternoon- where they were learning the art of ballroom and Latin dancing with Mrs Harrison. This was a brilliant chance for children to show what they could do and also try out something completely new. Mrs Harrison could not compliment the children enough on their attitude and behaviour throughout the lesson.

In English, there has been lots of independent writing going on as the children finished their sci-fi story plans and completed their own story. In Maths, we touched base again with multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000- where children have understood the relationship between the place values when doing this. After half term, we will be moving to the right by dividing by 10, 100 and 1000.

In PE, it was promised that if our gymnastic sequences were to be completed and recorded by last week, then the most excitable ‘apparatus’ lesson would happen this week. The famous primary school climbing frame and ropes appeared for the first time this year as the children got to try out their balancing skills using some equipment and also test themselves on the ropes. It is fair to say they enjoyed this one.



Let’s Celebrate

With it being the end of a half term, the children have again voted for the certificate winners this week. To mark the halfway point of the school year, the theme has been progress. Who has made the most improvements this year from September- based on our learning characters. Here is who the children voted for and why:

  • Layla- Your classmates have noticed your focus, enthusiasm and determination throughout your work in the classroom. You don’t just sit back and act passively during our lessons- you’re always engaged.



  • Rose- Your classmates have noticed your determination throughout your maths lessons and have spotted how hard you have been working. Your focus has improved but more importantly your self-belief that you can do it!



  • Virtue Butterflies- Our butterfly this week goes to Sophia. You are very truthful in your actions in that you are always there comfort those who need it. You have brought such calmness to the classroom since you have been back and your approach to learning is so eloquent.

  • World Book Day- Will be on Thursday 7th March. The children can dress up as a character from a book and they can also bring in a ‘magical object’, which they’ll use for a storytelling activity. This object could be as simple as a feather, shell, pebble or stick- They will use their imagination to create a story including this item.



  • Parents Evening Appointments- This will take place between 2:00pm-5:30pm over the course of two days, which are Wednesday 13th March and Wednesday 20th.



  • Extra-Curricular Timetable- This is now available on the sports page of the website, which includes the times and dates of the upcoming sports activities for before and after school. The children have also been given a copy of this.
