Year 6 Homework Week 1

Homework usually should be completed and brought back to school for the following Wednesday

 English - Reading - Read, read, read, read every single day! .

Spellings

Spellings will be practised throughout the week and the children will be quizzed on the Friday. There will also be a quiz for you to complete on Purple Mash, once you have spent a good amount of time practising these spellings throughout the week.

Optional Homework

Have you never been a Class Councillor? Would you like this opportunity in your final year at Our Lady’s? Now is your chance …

If you would like to be considered in our class votes then you need to prepare a short speech, presentation or poster that outlines why your class should vote for you and why you would be good at the job. We are voting next Thursday, so make sure you prepare and bring in everything you need before this day.

Home learning book

Please back your home learning books as you do every year. You could use photographs, wrapping paper, pictures, stickers or any unique way to keep it protected and smart.

Spelling

Spelling is one of those things that needs lots of practice. We will be doing spelling in 4 sections in each week.

1. Remembering past graphemes (spelling patterns) by collecting words

2. Remembering past common words

3. Revising a rule for spelling

4. Learning new tricky words

   You will have a spelling lesson in class to teach you the words and patterns first - your home learning will then consolidate this to help you remember and grow your brain.

   Please complete the 2 sheets, following the guidance on the sheet to help you. Notice the words on the sheet are in beautiful, joined up handwriting - so yours should be too!

5. Use this task to help you improve your handwriting. It is best to complete it in pencil then you can rub it out if you make a mistake.

Maths

We have stuck your TTRockstars password in your homework books. Please go on TTRockstars for 5 minutes every day. Just aim to get a little better each day.

Go in the GARAGE as this will work at your level. It might give you the same calculations over and over - but this is to help you get speedy!

Optional homework: Seeds

We are learning about how different seeds disperse so that we can write about it in our English lessons.

Why not go and see which seeds you can find on the ground at this time of year? You can bring them into class if you like. You might find acorns, helicopter seeds, gorse, conkers, poppy seed heads etc

Autumn 1 Extra-Curricular Opportunities and Names

As we start our new year starts, so does our extra-curricular offer. Please click on the button below to see what is available and what your child can sign up for. As always, we will rotate options throughout the year to give all children access, whilst also looking at the competitions taking place. If you child attends the All Stars Wrap Around Care at school and would like to take part in the clubs, please still complete the form so that we can amend registers. Children will be able to attend All Stars before of after the clubs.

We are so excited to welcome you all back to school this week and cannot wait to start making some memories together! Miss Hanlon, Mrs Maano and Mrs Ely will be waiting eagerly to greet you all on Tuesday morning.

 Please don’t forget to bring your water bottles, your healthy snacks, your coats and a lovely bright smile!

 Things to know:

Our PE days are Monday and Friday, the children can come into school in their PE kits on these days.

Our art is on a Thursday, please bring in your art tops for this to avoid getting your uniform messy.

Induction information will be sent out next week, so please look out for when it will be. You will be able discover more about the exciting opportunities and topics that they will be learning during their time in Year 1 and we can answer any questions you may have! More information, such as important forms that will need completing will be available soon so please do keep checking the Year 1 page.

Welcome to Nursery!

Hello and huge welcome to our nursery.

We are all very excited about meeting you again this week. We have lots of fun things planned! I tried to remember all the favourite toys you told me about when I visited you at home; and I have put them out to greet you when you arrive.

Just a few reminders:

You will need an Our Lady Book Bag

You will need one piece of fruit or veg for each session you are attending

You may need a spare pair of clothing (just in case)

Could all items which could be moved be clearly labelled

Have an early night everyone, tomorrow is going to be busy

Welcome to Year 5!

We hope you have all had an excellent summer (we can’t wait to hear all about it) as we welcome you back into school and into the upper juniors! The classroom is ready to go- all we need is you brilliant children to make it a home. There are so many exciting learning opportunities in Year 5, along with leadership opportunities that can really bring out the best in your child. Can you remember our ‘BIG WORDS’ from our transition morning back in July?

Don’t forget to come equipped with your own pencil cases, making sure you have all you need in there but please make sure they are small enough to fit in your trays at the end of the day.

• Art in on a Tuesday- please remember to bring in your art tops to stop your uniform from getting paint on- we will keep this in our trays. THERE WILL BE NO ART THIS WEEK. THIS WILL START UP ON 10TH SEPTEMBER.

• Outdoor PE is on a Wednesday. On these days you need to make sure you wear tracksuits but also have a pair of shorts either under your trousers or in your bag to get changed in to.

• Indoor PE days will be on a Thursday. Same uniform requirements as outdoor PE lessons. All earrings and watches will need to be removed for all PE lessons.

• Homework- will go out on Friday afternoons and will be due in the following Thursday.

Welcome back to our super new Year 2!

We are very excited to welcome you all back to school this week. Mrs Carragher, Miss Slater and I, Mrs Hotchkiss, will be waiting for you on Tuesday morning. We look forward to a year full of wonderful learning and life long memories!

The children only need bring their water bottles, snacks (healthy) and smiles!

Other things to note:

Indoor PE days will be on a Monday. Outdoor PE on a Wednesday with Ms Lavelle. We recommend that no earrings are worn on PE days to save your child needing to take them out. Please come to school in your tracksuit. Make sure you wear your shorts underneath you tracksuit bottoms on Monday - for quick and modest changing. Shorts are essential for gymnastics.

Art is on Wednesday- please remember to bring in your art tops to stop your uniform from getting paint on- we will keep this in your new individual Year 2 tray.

Homework- will go out on Tuesday afternoons and will be due in the following Monday.

No pencil cases required - there is a lovely new one full of equipment waiting for you!

Welcome to Year 4 - Class of 2024!

Welcome to a new school year and to our Year Four class. We are so excited to begin and look forward to seeing all your lovely faces on Tuesday morning! We hope you have all had a lovely rest.

Here are a few notices so you can get prepared and organised ready for your first week back.

You can bring your own pencil case to school but this needs to be small enough to fit in your chair pocket. Please do not bring any equipment in your pencil case - we will provide all pens, pencils, erasers etc

Similarly, you will need a water bottle - but again, nothing huge please, just a normal sized one that will fit in the pocket too.

Outside PE lessons are on Tuesday so you need to come in wearing your PE tracksuit. We will be doing PE on the first day back at school next week.

Indoor PE lessons are on Thursday. Please make sure you have shorts under your tracksuit bottoms and any veruccas are covered with verucca socks. This will also happen on the first week back.

We recommend that no earrings are worn on PE days to save your child needing to take them out.

Art is also on Tuesday but will not be happening the first week back. Please bring an art shirt/t-shirt to keep in your trays, to cover your uniform in messy lessons.

Don’t forget to label up that uniform too.

We will be starting flute lessons the following Monday - however, they will not be given out after the first lesson. Mrs Maddocks needs to train the children in how to care for their flutes and there will be an agreement letter sent home.

Welcome to Year 6 2024!

We can’t wait to welcome you all back to school for a VERY exciting year, full of challenges, fun learning and service. What is even more exciting is that the Year 6 block has been fully redecorated just for you, we can’t wait for you to see it! We are now just in the process of getting it all ready for your arrival and I know as soon as you come through the door, you are going to make such wonderful leaders of the school. This is your final year at Our Lady’s- let’s make it the best one yet, where we achieve everything we are capable of, love and celebrate one another and serve the school through inspiring all of our younger pupils. Don’t forget to send all of your House Captain Speeches in, your deadline is Thursday 5th September!

Next week we will be focusing on our leadership roles within school and how our two new virtues (Attentive and Discerning) will be at the centre of these roles. We will be applying for the jobs we would like, looking at how WE can make a difference in our school and looking at some inspirational leaders of the past.

House Captain Videos ...

Use this summer wisely to prepare and film your House Captain speeches …The children are to film a House Captain speech ready to show the younger children in the second week back in September. The children will be familiar, from watching them over the years, of great examples of effective speeches all made by previous Year 6 children. The speech needs to be inspirational, directed at the younger children, unique to us and enjoyable to watch, but must give us/ show us the reasons why they should be voted to be the next leader of their house! So remember to share your qualities, talents and the reasons why you would make a great House Captain! Could all videos please be emailed to Mrs Harrison within the first week back in Year 6. Remember, if you want to be considered as head boy or girl, sports captains as well as a potention house captain, then the video is crucial.

Year 5 Weekly Blog 19.07.24- 'One step at a time is all it takes to get you there'

And just like that… the end of the year is here. What an amazing year it has been with this amazing group of children. The combination of personalities, humour and brains has really made it such a fun year. The Year 5 team would like to thank the children for all of their hard work, focus, determination and most importantly, kindness.

Although the workload decreased gradually this week, the children were still kept busy with lots of fun activities. To finish our french unit of food, we experienced a french food tasting afternoon with plenty on the menu. A range of sweet treats such as croissants, pan nu chocolats and crepes were served up along with some savory cheeses of brei and camembert. The children then washed this down with some red wine (cranberry juice) or white wine (apple and grapefruit juice).

We also had our final PE lessons of the year, both inside and out, with the children taking part in a whole class cricket match (with a few teachers included). The children voted on boys vs girls, with the girls coming out as 3-0 winners. We then all participated in a friendly tournament of silent dodgeball- a brilliant invention of mine I must say.

The highlight of our week was definitely at the beginning of the week with the end of year play- and it truly was the greatest show! The children’s energy and excitement around the whole production was amazing. I am one for sure am looking forward to their play this time next year.

Let’s Celebrate

Our certificates this week have been voted by the children for their learners of the half term with our winners being Erin, Rafe and Rex. You were all complimented for your focus, kindness, braveness and loving nature- well deserved.

Our virtue butterflies this week have gone to Archie and Ola. You are both so generous with your time in helping me out in any task that needs doing. It is your trustworthy nature to why I choose you for these tasks.

Our school ... our class ... is richer because of you

What an emotional but beautiful week we have had in Year 6. It is always sad to say goodbye, but my goodness, are they all so ready to spread their wings and fly at High School! It has been such a privilege to have taught Year 6 this year and we have loved every minute being with the on their magical journey. They have risen to every challenge, worked their socks off and showed so much love and compassion along the way. They will all be greatly missed by everyone at Our Lady’s.

It has been a week of celebrations and goodbyes. After a beautiful leavers mass for our Year 6 and dear Miss Neves, we made our way to complete our crazy golf, chippy lunch and then to the beach! The ice cream’s Mrs Gregan treated us to were also wonderful. We had so much fun altogether! These photos are just fabulous - enjoy them!

Wow, what a performance! The Greatest Show was amazing! We are so proud of them all…

Codes have gone home for the digital copies of the films today. Some of the codes maybe confusing. If you have a l - it might be a upper case i OR a lower case L. It won’t be a number 1.

Today was a perfect way to end their primary school journey … this morning we held the first STAR Awards ceremony in school.

Finally, the Year 6 team would like to thank you all for your continuous trust and support throughout the year. We have loved reading all the children’s cards and kind words and really appreciate any gifts we have received, although the real gift has been to teach all of your beautiful children. Thank you.

Have a wonderful summer and remember what Mrs Gregan said… ‘once an Our Lady’s, always an Our Lady’s’ so please do stay in touch.

If there ever comes a day when we can't be together, keep me in your heart, I'll stay there forever....

Well all good things must come to an end. I am always sad when it is time for the children move on to the next stage of their learning journey. The children this week have been quite reflective and have spoken about how they will miss nursery and the nursery ladies. I reminded them that we will always have an invisible string, that will bind us together...forever. That special part in my heart is fit to burst this year, it has been truly magical and I have enjoyed every minute of it.

To the children who are moving into Reception here at Our Lady’s I will watch with keen interest how you shine your light in school…and remember always ‘be kind’.

To the children who will be forging a new path at another school don’t forget to shine brightly for everyone to see how wonderful you are and don’t forget to keep in touch.

To the children who are returning to nursery in September…I can’t wait!!!!

…and finally to you, our fantastic parents, thank you for trusting us with your child. It has been such a privilege to work and learn along side them. You have have been ‘fantastic elastic’ too.

Pirate Party Day

A note from Emma

Hello everyone, or I should say oooh arrrr me hearties! 

 Our Pirate Party was so much fun. The children had a fantastic time (and so did the nursery ladies!). It has been so lovely having our last 'party' all together and seeing the children having a great time. 

 I can't believe this is the last blog of the nursery year. I feel really sad, but also so happy, having seen how the children have grown their brains and worked so hard. They have made some wonderful friendships and shown their kindness to each other on daily basis. We have created some wonderful memories and sung lots of beautiful inspirational songs. I think the children’s favourites have been 'My Lighthouse' and 'This Little Light of Mine.' I am sure plenty of you have heard the children singing these songs at home.

Thank you for all your support and kindness throughout this year.

Have a wonderful summer, and hope all of the children have a good rest, especially those starting school next year, they all deserve it.

A note from Michelle

Hello and welcome to the last blog of the school year. I can’t believe that the end of the term has come and it is time to say goodbye to all those children going to school. I know they are all going to go on to bigger and brighter things as they shine their light in Reception. For those children who are staying with us next year, we have a busy and wonderful year planned, starting in September.

This week has been so busy, we have just never stopped. We started the week with a wonderful show, The Greatest Show. We were enthralled as Year 5 and 6 sang and danced us through this amazing production. It was just the best.

We then had a Pirate Party on Wednesday and we all dressed up as pirates. This was a really fun way to celebrate the end of the nursery year. We danced, we sang and played so many Pirate games. It was perfect!

We have spent some time this week revisiting some of our favourite activities, we do love a game and we absolutely love a quiz. It reminded us all of just how much we have learnt this year. I would like to say thank you to you all for being so supportive of everything we do at nursery, we couldn’t do it without all you wonderful mummies and daddies. Thank you also for the wonderful cards and thoughtful gifts, you are all so kind.

It would be great if we could go back to page one of the year, but alas Reception is waiting and I just know the children will have a brilliant time.

I would like to thank each and everyone of your for kind words and gifts. Your generosity has been overwhelming. As I sat and read each card I felt a tear of joy trickle down my cheek. Anyone who knows me understands that Early Years is my passion and to have that recognised by our families is truly thrilling. Thank you.

Finally, I hope you have the most amazing summer, make lots of memories which will last a lifetime.

Remember, in those moments of doubt ask yourself …‘what would Jesus do?’ and you will find the answer.

Year 4 Weekly blog Friday 19th July "Sunsets are proof that endings can be beautiful"

We have had a lovely last week in Year 4 filled with lasting memories and joy! On Monday, we watched the Yr5 and 6 performance - The Greatest Show - which was simply wonderful! Children have been very busy creating their stories for their end of year puppet shows. They experimented with where to place the light source to get the best shadow puppets. They also retold the Viking myths learned in class.

On Wednesday, we completed our final french lesson on the topic of food. Children created their own menus in French and then served one another as waiters and waitresses with pain au chocolat, croissants, baguettes and limonade or jus d’orange!

We have been practising telling the time in our maths lessons and this is definitely something to revise over the Summer holidays when waiting for the plane or taking a trip to the beach!

Of course the obligatory end of year movie took place too! I have included some pictures below from last Friday’s fundraiser too.

Let’s Celebrate!

The children have voted for the certificates for the end of this half term. Certificates for every learning character go to Louis, Daisy and Lily. Your class said so many nice things about you - that you are all kind to people and are all good friends who are there for other people. Every single on of you have become great listeners with improved focus too. Well done.
