What a busy but lovely week we have had! we are well under way with our Christmas preparations for our carol concert in church and we have been doing so much exciting learning!
Our RE lessons this week were firstly focused on John the Baptist and understanding why he was important. We then looked at how he linked to another prophet Isaiah - in prophesying Jesus’ coming. This led us beautifully to start thinking about the season of Advent and what it entails.
Our Science this week was all about evaporation. Excitedly, the children made a puddle outside and even in this cold, it had evaporated within 1 hour! We carried out an experiment in class to see if water would evaporate more quickly if it was in a container with a larger surface area.
Maths has seen us solve one and two step problems using bar modelling and our understanding of measures. Children are more readily able to convert now between eg m to km or g to kg. We are now moving onto numbers to 10,000 comparing and ordering them.
In English, we have finally finished our novel. It was bittersweet and all children have now quizzed on this book which gave them some major Accelerated reader points!
Here are a few photos of our week:
CONVERSATION STARTERS:
1. What is evaporation? Can you think of any examples in nature?
2.My Happy Mind - this week, you can talk about Which strength would you like to build further?
Let’s Celebrate!
This week, our learning certificates are as follows:
Lettie received a Sadie Spider certificate. You are such a hard worker Lettie which really showed in your persuasive letter! You were brilliant with maths problems too this week!
George L also received a Sadie Spider certificate. You have become such a good listener and you have become so much more productive too! I can see you striving to get better and better!
Our virtues this half term are intentional and prophetic - intentional in choosing right choices and standing out for what is good. This week Mia-Grace received our star. You are always so willing to help out everyone Mia-Grace. You just love to give to others.
Flute stars this week: Lettie and Fletcher
Nathan has been our Happiness hero this week - starting our day by sharing a happy thought. Thank you.

Year 6 Weekly Blog - 'Accept the challenges so that you can feel the exhilaration of victory.'
In this week’s liturgy, we reflected on the gospel and the word ‘king’. Jesus refers to His Kingdom not being of this world. We reminded ourselves of our previous RE topic of where the Kingdom of God is and what it looks like. We shared how God’s kingdom is within each of our hearts, and we have to let this Kingdom shine through. We then discussed what Jesus was like as a king and how we can be kings today- what type of leader would He want us to be?
And in the blink of an eye…another week in Year 6 has passed. From the minute that the children walk into class in the morning to the moment that they walk out of the door, they are constantly learning and challenging themselves to be the best that they can be. It really astounds me just how much work that the children have completed. As we approach Advent, and the birth of Jesus Christ, we continue to strive to be Intentional and Prophetic in our actions, which are our two virtues this half term. Today, we made our advent promises ready for the whole class display, thinking about the ways we can prepare ourselves and our hearts ready for the birth of Christ.
Learning is always fast paced in Year 6 and this week has been no exception. This week in Maths we have been adjusting the calculations to be more efficient and accurate. We have been analysing our class novel and creating a toolkit ready for our writing next week. In science, we have looked at anomalies in data and learning about why these may happen. This half term, our RE topic is such a reflective unit of work, as we ask the children to reflect on the injustices within our world today. They are often surprised that some of the situations still occur. We spent today reflecting on a poem about the plight of refugees in our world. Why not read the poem and see what you think?
They have no need of our help
So do not tell me
These haggard faces could belong to you or me
Should life have dealt a different hand
We need to see them for who they really are
Chancers and scroungers
Layabouts and loungers
With bombs up their sleeves
Cut-throats and thieves
They are not
Welcome here
We should make them
Go back to where they came from
They cannot
Share our food
Share our homes
Share our countries
Instead let us
Build a wall to keep them out
It is not okay to say
These are people just like us
A place should only belong to those who are born there
Do not be so stupid to think that
The world can be looked at another way.
Now read the poem backwards. What a powerful poem with a really significant meaning. The discussion around this and the empathy the children showed was so humbling, what a group of compassionate children you have. Following this lesson, the children have started to write their own poems about refugees.
DANCE FESTIVAL INFORMATION
The time is here and we have now finished our dance, we are so excited to share it with you all. Here are the arrangements for next Tuesday …
Costumes should now be at school, left at school ready for rehearsals on Monday and to take to the Winter Gardens on Tuesday- this will avoid any left behind on the day!
We will leave school at 1pm by coach to the Winter Gardens, where 3 members of staff will be taking the group and staying with them in to the evening. The children will be there all afternoon, to allow time to practice and go through the show. Therefore, they will need to bring a packed lunch for their evening meal. Snacks throughout the event are welcomed, but please no sweets/ chocolate and no fizzy drinks, although one juice is permitted. As it is a long afternoon, with waiting time, please feel free to pack a good book, any homework to complete and maybe a puzzle/ colouring book to keep them busy (no electrical devices or anything of value). Children will not be able to see any of the audience before or during the show.
Once the show has finished, children will then go backstage to collect their belongs and then we will take them to our school’s pick up point outside Toyland Toyshop on Church street, so please meet us there. You will not be able to take your child until the end of the show, due to safeguarding and as it is etiquette to watch the other performers as they have watched you. Once the show has finished at the collection point, please make sure you tell us when you take your child, to ensure a safe transition as it does get very busy! I will have all mobile contact numbers in case there are any problems, so please ensure you have your mobiles with you on the night. Please fill in the form below to let us know who will be taking your child home on the evening:
Doors open to the public on the evening at 6pm- make sure you have your tickets. The anticipated finishing time is 9:30pm.
Children can wear their PE kits this day. Please make sure you pack plenty of water and if your child needs an inhaler, please ensure they have this. We will also do hair in the afternoon, so pack a brush!
Any questions or queries about the event, please just email.
Delving deeper through talk …
What is justice? What injustices are there in a world?
My Happy Mind…
What character strength do you want to use more of next week?
Helpers in the mornings:
This week we have the following children helping to take the younger children to their class:

Intentional and Prophetic butterflies
This half term we will be on the lookout for all the children that are intention in their actions. Children who make conscious decisions for the greater good. We will also be spotting children who are prophetic, who choose the right decisions with integrity and who display them publically. These children are the role models of the school. This week we thank Liam for being intentional and prophetic to help others.

Year 3 Weekly Blog Friday 22nd November -"Will I invite Jesus to be the king of my heart?"
Luca, Eliza and Ruth led our worship on Tuesday. We listen to the story of son Joseph and his beautiful coloured coat. His brother were jealous of him and sold him to market traders for only 20 coins. We were shocked that they valued money more than their brother’s life. We thought about what we value in life and what is important to us.

Emma’s Blog
Hello everyone,
The cold weather is definitely here now, but that doesn't stop the children playing and learning outside. We are starting to have a go at zipping or buttoning our coats up by ourselves. We know it can be tricky, but by having a go, it is a step closer to them putting their coats on independently. Here is a video you can watch together and practice. Good luck. Click here.
To continue with our learning thread about our bodies, we have been looking at why it's important to wash our hands before eating, after using the toilet, or just when our hands are dirty from doing everyday activities. This is to help the children understand the importance of keeping our hands free from germs. We did an experiment where I used a bowl of water and sprinkled pepper on the top to represent the germs, then by adding washing up liquid on our fingers (which represented the soap on their hands), the children dipped their fingers into the water. The pepper (germs) moved away from their fingers which we told them was like when you have washed your hands using soap and warm water, all of the germs go away. It's amazing to see, so have a go at home. Here is the video about germs. Click here. and here.
Have a fabulous weekend everyone. Wrap up warm when your out and about, and I will see you all on Monday.

Michelle’s Blog
Hello everyone and welcome to this week's blog
This week we have taken some time to consolidate some of our previous learning. We have continued to learn how to care for our teeth in our very own dentist. We have explored and discussed which foods are good choices for our bodies and our teeth. I have been impressed with the children's knowledge about healthy eating. I'm sure you will be amazed with their knowledge too, if you ask your child which foods are bad choices and should only be eaten as treats occasionally.
This week we met Numberblock two. We have learnt that one plus another one is two. We have investigated and explored pairs of two. We had to sort out the washing, all the socks had got mixed up. The children worked hard to find the right ones to make a pair. This is a good game to play at home. Get them to match the socks after laundry day.
Another busy week and more planned for next week.
Have a lovely weekend
Michelle

What a lovely (yet chilly) week it has been in Year 5. We are edging closer and closer to Advent and the weather has certainly arrived early, as seen in the pictures below. Our preparations for advent have been in full flow as we practiced more the songs for our KS2 Christmas Concert, along with preparing our advent station for whole school prayer and liturgy. Next week, we will be making our advent promises as we enter the final week of November!
Speaking of promises, we have delved into some of God’s most famous covenants that he has made such as his promise to Noah and Abraham. The children have been really focusing how both God and his followers showed signs of love, trust, faith and hope in their actions which led to their covenant being so strong and meaningful.
In Science, we have been looking at animal offsprings, in relation to our human timeline, and matching up the names of common animals to their offspring. Were there any names of animals offpspring that you did not know? Can you find out some more that we didn’t cover in the lesson and tell both your parents and your teachers.
In Maths, we have been deep diving into some money word problems and investigating how to tackle some tricky and complicated questions. The children have been able to apply their previously learnt methods to help find the answers to these questions such as column addition/subtraction, adjusting, partitioning and number lining.
In English, we have finished collecting our legends style vocabulary and have begun to read our chosen legend story- ‘The Legend of Gelert’. With us just finishing this story today, the children have been on a rollarcoaster of emotions throughout the read and have been able to express these emotions in their writing.

Virtue Star of the Week: Our virtue star of the week goes to Louis. All three of your class teachers have spotted you this week Louis being so attentive towards other children in our class. You don’t choose to do this to be recognised or for appraisal, simply just to help others which is just lovely to see. Your calming approach to social situations is really appreciated by your classmates and also your teachers.
Sean for being a reflective learner: I have seen a big improvement since we have changed seats this week. Being able to sit next to your friends, while managing your distractions , can be really hard and this was something you have struggled with recently. However, I have seen a big shift this week and you have been eager to improve your levels of focus and attention to learning. Don’t let your standards drop.
Jacob for being a reflective learner: I have seen a big improvement from you Jacob in this past week. You have really been making some thoughtful decisions in how to apply yourself to both your learning and your attitude around the class. You have been trying and succeeding in taking care of your book presentation and also your responses to social situations. Keep this up!

The week has certainly flown by this week as the countdown to Christmas has begun! Lots of learning has been taking place, even when dressed in the comfiest pyjamas at the end of the week. Regardless of all of the excitement of teddies, onesies and oodies, the children’s focus and attitude towards their learning was still as expected- which is a big sign of maturity as upper juniors. This was seen during our English and spelling lessons today with the children thinking deeply into different pairs of homophones and how they differ and also when it was time to get active during our ‘legends carousel’ in English. Can the members of your household complete the ‘Pronunciation Poem’ ?
In Maths, it has been all things money this week, with us comparing the value of the different coins/notes we use and how we can combine these to reach total amounts. We have looked at different methods that we can use when calculating with money to make things simplier for ourselves- such as adjusting.
In Geography ,we have continued with looking into the world map and the countries within it- this week it has been all about capital cities. We shared what we already know about them and how many capital cities do they already know around the world. We then used our investigating skills to locate the biggest cities in the UK and where they are located on a map.
We also started our Computing lessons this week and deep dived into the world of coding. The children were able to apply their previously learned skills and their creativity to complete certain tasks.
