Welcome back to the second half of the spring term. There is no doubt that it is going to be a busy term with lots and lots going on. I am really excited that we will end the term with an Easter assembly. It will be a lovely way to bring our class family: parents and children together.
This half term, we are focusing on the virtues of being Grateful and Generous. This half term we will be growing to be grateful for our own gifts, for the gift of other people, and for the blessings of each day; and generous with our own gifts and the service for others. There is so much love in our school and especially our class and I am so grateful for all of your wonderful children, how hard they are all working and of course all the support from you as parents. Keep supporting them at home with their daily reading, completion of homework and of course attendance, it is such a crucial time, that we can not miss any learning opportunity!
‘Romeo, Romeo, where for art thou Romeo.’ Drama is a brilliant way to bring text to life and we will be using drama throughout this entire unit. Before half term we filmed and photographed the prologue to Romeo and Juliet. Please enjoy our film below.
Where has our learning taken us this week?
Maths - We have continued with our long division practice and consolidation- this will be ongoing now, so please do not worry if we are not 100% confident with this just YET- we WILL get there, we just have to be Sadie Spiders! Fractions will be a big part of next week’s learning, so please make sure you spend time on the homework, recapping finding fractions of numbers from year 5 in preparation! This week the children have recieved feedback on their wonderful diary entries, in the role of Juliet and had a chance to improve and edit their work, ready to complete their next diary entry as Romeo next week!
On Wednesday, the children had a visit from St Anne’s firefighters, to revisit fire safety from their Year 2 learning but also to talk about Road Safety. We learnt some great ways of how to keep ourselves safe…
Being an active and curious learner.
I am sure the children have come home to tell you that they have had their grammar paper back this week. This was such an exciting and worth-while learning journey, where we have been through the paper, celebrated achievements and even mistakes- as the mistakes we make are what we truly learn from the most! I would like to remind all of you that this process is not to label or to level your child, as we have not yet completed the whole curriculum, we simply do this to ensure your children are familiar with the layout, formatting, style of questions and of course to learn what is expected of them. The children have had the chance to think about what areas they know they need to work on now and reflect on what progress they would like to make next time- marginal gains are always the best way! We were so proud of the children’s maturity and resilience during this feedback time.
Delving deeper through talk …
What did we learn from our Fire Safety Talk- how can we keep ourselves safe?
My Happy Mind…
Our next module is ‘relate’, before we start think about the questions: How can we have good relationships with others?
Leading Learners
Well done to Liam this week.
Liam- Wow we are so proud of your reflective, focused and determined approached to your work. We are so impressed with your writing this week- keep up the great work!
Gratetful and Generous Stars
This half term we will be on the lookout for all the children that show our two virtues of the half term in their actions. Children who show gratitude for all of their own and other people’s gifts- also regarding other people as precious gifts themsleves, reflecting our school’s mission statement. We will also be spotting children who are generous, who show generosity in their service for others. These children are the role models of the school. This week we thank Erin for being Grateful and Generous.
Helpers in the morning for after half term:
This week we have the following children helping to take the younger children to their class:

World Book Day Thursday 6th March- dress up, there are many different ideas that Mrs Gregan has put on her blog, to make this not an expensive event! Children have been asked to bring in a book that they would like to swap with a friend to keep, to pass on the gift of that book to others! We will be also meeting up with our reception partners next week to read with them! Any spare books that have not been swaped will be put towards our school book fair to raise money for our library, so if you have more than one spare please do bring them in.
School Leaver Hoodies- a Parent payment of £20 has now been set for all those wanting to purchase a school leavers hoody. These are a great keepsake for the children and usually they request to wear these on their leavers day out ready for a class photo!
Lent Boxes are due in on Monday- thank you to those who have already brought them in- they look wonderful!
Reminder: Can you design and make a special lenten box for your Reception partner. This needs to be a specially designed and decorated container that you can give to your partner the 2nd week back after half term ready for them to take home and collect money during lent for our chosen charity. Think about what your partner likes and what their interests are, this may help you when planning what to do- refer to your partners card they wrote for you. You could make your box out of any plastic container, cardboard box, it is up to you- just make sure it is fully cleaned out first! Below is a reminder of your partners and a little inspiration:
Have a lovely weekend.

Year 5 Weekly Blog 28.02.25- 'Blessed are the pure in heart as they will be with God in heaven'
What a first week back it has been! The children have jumped straight back into their learning after half term and have shown such enthusiasm and determination throughout their learning.
Our focus in our RE lessons this week has been the beatitudes. We have been discussing these in detail and linking these to inspirational people in our lives and throughout history. I can’t wait until the children get to create their own beatitudes and to express the values in which they wish to live by.
In Maths, we have began our huge topic of division and have been looking at larger calcuations which cannot be done mentally. With this, the children were introduced to the famous ‘bus stop method’ in which they took to like a duck to water- so much enthusiasm towards this and pride in using a new method to tackle some harder calculations.
The highlight of our week was right at the very end with our trip to Manchester Science and Industry museum. In order to grasp some inspiration for our upcoming writing topic and also to apply our new forces topic in science, the children got very practical with sensory workshops, experiment galleries and historical talks.

Welcome back everyone. It was so lovely yo see the children’s happy faces coming into nursery. I hope you are all well rested as we lots planned for this half term. Our planning was posted on the blog before half term. It helps you to get involved with our learning at home.
A glorious week of sunshine ( maybe just a little bit of inclement weather!) We have taken full advantage of it and spent lots of time in the garden. We are beginning to spot changes occurring too…the garden is coming alive! Next week we have a Spring hunt all around the school. We will be looking for clues that warmer weather is on it’s way. Watch this space!
Worship
This week we have taken the time to reflect on the virtues for this half term…Generous and Grateful. We had a long discussion about what we were grateful for in our lives and how could we be generous with our selves. The children came up with some good ideas that always revolves around being kind and loving, so important. We thought about being generous with our time, not thinking about ourselves first, sharing, in fact everything that being part of Team Jesus should be. I am so very proud.
2025 is a year of Jubilee, and the holy Father chose the theme of “Pilgrims of Hope”. It is a time to re-establish a proper relationship with God, with one another, and with all of creation. As Doors of Hope are popping up all over the school we decided to go on our own Pilgrimage of Hope, and to visit all the doors around school. We made a ‘staff of hope’ and carried a candle to light the way to God. We started with the Worship area which as been decorated for the Jubilee. Take a look at our pictures.
Meet Number 6
The Numberblocks make a new friend who likes to roll dice, and with Six in the mix, everything is a game. Learn all about the number 6 with Numberblock Six. Click here to watch.
We have spent lots of time this week recognising the dots on the dice without having to count them (subitising dice patterns for example, ‘I see three spots without counting’) as well as counting from 1-6 using 1-1 correspondence (match one number to each object). This can be tricky as sometimes there is a temptation to race ahead. We have also been learning the number names in order.
Michelle’s blog
Hello everyone and welcome to this week's blog.
It was so nice to see everyone's smiling faces on Tuesday morning as we came back from the half term break. I hope you all had a peaceful and relaxing week, despite the rainy weather.
This week we have continued with our learning as we practiced counting to five, ordering numbers to five and meeting Number block number 6.
We have also continued to develop our fine motor skills by playing a game with pegs. This will help us to develop the muscles in our hands needed to hold a pencil correctly.
On Tuesday we tried to think of words beginning with the letter sounds 's'. We explored the sound bag for 's' and then made a snake as we drew the letter on our friends back 'slither down the snake'
Thank you for sending in your Lenten boxes, we will be swapping them with our friends in our partner class next week.
Have a lovely weekend and we will see you next week

Emma’s Blog
Hello everyone, and welcome back. I hope you all had a fantastic half term.
Firsty, can I say a big thank you for coming to parent's day. It was lovely talking to you all.
The children have got right back into learning and have been having so much fun.
On Wednesday, in PE, Mr Nay had us working hard on our ball skills, by throwing balls into buckets, which was tricky. The children loved having a go.
He also played a game like dodge ball, where he rolled lots of balls towards the children when they were walking across the playground. The children had to reach the other side without the ball touching their feet. The children were really good at this and it was Mr Nay who found it tricky trying and get them.
I had a challenge for the children this week. I put a jar with some cars in it out in nursery. The children had to look in the jar and estimate (good word) how many cars they thought were in it. It was tricky but the children enjoyed having a go and we had a range of estimations…only two children got it right…there were 6 cars in the jar. We are now going to make an estimation station so that we can play every day!
Have a lovely weekend, and see you all on Monday morning.
Emma
Workout Wednesday
From this week, every Wednesday will be ‘workout Wednesday’ After lunch nursery and reception are going to come together and practise our gross motor skills. We have planned parachute work, friendship band work and large equipment, the list has become endless. Again watch this space.
DON’T FORGET!
Next week is Dress up week!!!!Every day the children and nursery staff can come to school in fancy dress and pay £1 for each day. If you can give more that would be fantastic!
We are hoping to collect donations that we can gift to the Little Hearts Matter charity. LHM is there for families like Annie’s, our nursery friend, to support them though every step of their half a heart journey, we want to help.
Everything they do at Little Hearts Matter is made possible through the support and generosity from people like you. So let’s make this event fun and helpful. Thank you in anticipation.
Lenten boxes
As in previous years we are asking each child during half term to make and decorate a Lenten box. We will then swap them with our partner class (YR3) in readiness to take home and fill as part of our Lenten almsgiving, the children did lots of helpful activities at home to earn money for their boxes. Last year was a bumper year, we collected lots of money to donate to worthy causes. All boxes should be in school by Monday 3rd March.
As you can see we have managed to cram five days worth of learning into four days…phew! Next week is looking like being just as busy.
I hope the sun continues to shine for the weekend and that you have somelovely family time.
Stay safe and God Bless
Barbara
Year 4 Weekly blog Friday 28th February "Actions speak louder than words; let your words teach and your actions speak. "s
We have had a lovely week in year 4. In our RE sessions this week we have learned the parable of the Prodigal son. This important message shows us God is always waiting for us with open arms - ready to forgive us no matter what.
This week we have been throwing ourselves into Shakespeare practice. The children are doing so well and everyone knows their parts. It is a real team effort - full of their creative ideas. We cant wait for you to see it. In English, we have also started a new unit on folk tales, where we are enjoying Brer Rabbit stories.
Our Geography this half term is all about Environmental Regions. Children have been looking at why the earth has different climate zones and what this means for each region- how it affects the seasons and landscapes.
In History, we have started to learn what happened in England after the Romans left. The next group of invaders were the Anglo Saxons and they lived very differently to the flamboyant Romans. Through drama, we explored their society and built a community together.
Conversation starters

Each year the children make a Lenten box. During Lent we collect money in the box ready to give to charity. We encourage the children to do special things for donations to their box. Because the box is a gift to another child, we ask the children to be creative and thoughtful - linking their decoration to Lent/Easter/Spring. We will be swapping boxes next Wednesday, please make sure they are brought to school by then. Great time to upcycle a container!!! Leave or create a slit for money!
