Welcome back to Learning from Home.
We hope that you had a lovely Easter week with your families and a little chocolate too! (I have enjoyed an Easter egg or two!!
Here are your weekly challenges to pick from throughout the week.
How many can you do?
PE
Try to do a PE challenge each day.
PE with Joe Wicks. Yoga. One of Mrs Gregan’s PE challenges for the week. Our outdoor warm up. Can you do 50 of each station? (Spotty dog… Downward dog running… Push ups… Star jumps) Make an obstacle course. Skip with a skipping rope. Put on some music and dance. Go for a bike ride or a walk or a run.
Sumdog
Have a go at some of the maths or spelling challenges that are on Sumdog. Try out some different games.
Nessy
If you have a Nessy login, please make sure that you are having a go on Nessy each day. (Just 15 minutes a day will really help you.)
Daily Reading
Make sure that you are reading each day and having a go at the quizzes on Accelerated Reader. Try to be really focused when taking your quizzes so that you can get 100%. Don’t forget that you can read books or ebooks. If you have not yet signed up for Epic Reading and want to do this, just drop us an email and we will get you started. What is your favourite place to read? What is the best book you have read recently?
Spelling
This week we would like you to practise the following words. (Maybe you could try some of the exciting ways on the Fun Ways to Learn Your Spellings sheet that we sent out a few weeks ago. You might even be able to manage to put some of them in your written work this week - now that’s a challenge for you!)
island natural mention certain exercise popular
Helping around the house
Lent might be over but that doesn’t stop you from helping around the house. What jobs can you do this week? Maybe you could learn a new job that you have never done before. Maybe you could help with making lunch. Maybe you can help in the garden. Don’t forget to send us a picture of you helping around the home.
Typing
Have a go at some of the typing games on Purple Mash. Are you a Sadie Spider and a Lizzie Ladybird? Can you improve on your scores within the set time? Let us know how you get on.
French
How many different animal names can you learn in French? Can you draw some pictures and label them?
Write a letter or draw a card
Why not write someone a letter and pop it in the post to them or pop it through their letterbox when you are on a walk. Or you could draw someone a card to cheer them up and pop it in the post or through their letterbox. You could do this for a friend or a family member or for an elderly neighbour. Give it a go and put a smile on someone’s face.
Holy Week Home Learning
This week we would like you to take some time this week and to spend some time with your families.

Good morning everyone. Lovely to see you all again, I can’t believe that we are at the end of our second week already.
Well done for all of your super learning so far, we just love getting all of your pictures. Keep them coming in and we will keep posting them on our blog.
Remember it’s the weekend and the start of the Easter holidays, (no blog until Tuesday 14th April) so try to do something lovely as a family. Remember to keep smiling and to be kind to everyone. Don’t forget to make time for God too - this Sunday is Palm Sunday - maybe you could look up the story and read it. Then next weekend we have the Easter celebrations - have a look at the stories and share them together as a family.
We have put some lovely Easter activities that you might want to look at. (These will be on the blog from Sunday)If you send photos, we will post them on the class blog after the holiday.
Today we would like you to try to make sure that you have done all of the tasks set so far this week, and to also get the tasks done for today. Have you checked out the weekly challenges?
Try to do 30 minutes reading and don’t forget to take a quiz if you need to. Why not read a story to a little brother or sister, choose an ebook with them and then you could quiz on it when you have finished. I have checked Acceleread today and there are lots of children close to their target, keep up the great work.
EPIC READING - Let’s keep growing a love of reading!
We are very excited because we have found a new reading resource for your child to use - Epic Reading. Epic reading can be used online or on the app. It has a huge selection of ebooks, completely free and the best thing is…you can find books using your child’s ZPD level! This is brilliant as it means your child can read books that accurately match their reading level. There are also lots of quizzes to do. It’s super easy to set up, using your email. If you would like to get involved, please email us on l.brisco@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk and k.edmondson@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk. We will then link your email to your child’s profile so that you can access the books at home. Miss Hornby has also asked if in the email you send, you can give permission for us to add your email to Texts to Parents; it would be very handy to have your emails saved on our system. Thank you.
Sumdog/IXL
Don’t forget these challenges. Play some of the games on Sumdog (Have you managed to add a cow to your pile in the junkyard game yet? I also like the cake monster game. Delicious!!!) and have a go at some of the units on addition and subtraction on IXL.
We have put some Sumdog spelling challenges on too, so that you can practise your spellings. (We have used spellings from this week and also from previous weeks.) Why not have a go.
Maths
Roll a dice three times and make a 3 digit number. Write it down. Roll the dice three times again and either add it to the first number or subtract it. Make sure that you line up the columns carefully. Check whether you have to exchange and make sure that you do this carefully. (Make sure that you take the bottom number from the top number when subtracting - BE CAREFUL!!!)
(Check Monday’s Home Learning blog for how to generate numbers)
English
Today I would like you to write a non chronological report about Italy using your notes from earlier in the week. Please write an introduction using your notes on where Italy is and then write a paragraph for each of the headings I gave you, you will need to turn your notes into full sentences now.
Remember to write neatly and to join your writing carefully please. We are looking for pen points.
For example with my note of Capital - Rome
I could now write
The capital city of Italy is Rome, it is on the coast of Italy. It is situated in the centre of Italy.
Please use 2Publish on Purple Mash to complete this piece of work so I can see them. To find it just type 2Publish into the search box on the Purple Mash home page, open 2Publish and then go on to the template called ‘What I have learned’, which will allow you to type and add images. Before you start please look at these examples so you can see what they could look like.
There is also a list here of things to try and include in your report.
Remember to use
Super spelling
Full stops and some commas too
Capital letters—don’t forget for place names too
Interesting sentence starters
RE
The end of another week. Think about all the things that someone you live with has done for you this week, be grateful. Draw them a picture to make them smile, write them a little note on the back of the picture to explain to them why you are grateful. Make a promise to them to do something kind for them before the end of the day. Share this with them.
Year 3 Thursday 2nd April Learning from Home
Good morning everyone. We hope that you are ready to learn.
Have you spotted a theme in the pictures we have used this week? What can you see growing in your garden or in other people’s gardens when you are going for a walk. Can you name any of the flowers that you can see? My favourite ones are daffodils. They always look so happy.
You are probably getting into a great routine by now and learning from home is hopefully not so strange. Remember to keep helping around the house and doing things that make others smile. Remember be generous and grateful.
Reading
Lots of lovely reading again today please. Don’t forget to quiz if you have finished a book. There’s lots of super scores coming through to us. Keep thinking carefully and making sure that you answer the quiz questions correctly. Well done everyone. Cooper Crab learning points for all those who get 100% on a quiz.
Sumdog/IXL
Don’t forget these challenges. Play some of the games on Sumdog (Had any burgers lately?) and have a go at some of the units on addition and subtraction on IXL.
Maths
Roll a dice three times and make a 3 digit number. Write it down. Roll the dice twice again and either add it to the first number or subtract it. Make sure that you line up the columns carefully. Check whether you have to exchange and make sure that you do this carefully. (Make sure that you take the bottom number from the top number when subtracting - BE CAREFUL!!!)
(To generate numbers if you don’t have any dice check out Monday’s Home Learning blog)
English
Today I would like you to have a look at this non chronological report about Italy, read it carefully.
In each paragraph there are some errors—can you spot what they are? In your home learning book write down what you notice.
Art
It’s Thursday again so check out Year 3’s art page and do the challenge that Mrs Curtis has set you. Have fun and don’t forget to send us some pictures.
Year 3 Wednesday 1st April Learning from Home
Good Morning everyone, and welcome to another day of learning from home.
Put a smile on your face, a sparkle in your eyes and let’s get working! Have fun!
Did you know that April 1st is known as April Fools’ Day? Can you find out anything about what it is about? You could even have a bit of fun with this. (Kind fun of course - keep everyone happy!!!) Let us know what you get up to.
This morning we would like you to:
Read
Can you find a factual book on the free ebooks today? Choose an insect book or a plant book, it could help you with your Science today. Have a read and then take a quiz. Think carefully when quizzing - try to make sure you answer the questions carefully and try to get 100%. You can do it!
Sumdog
Try out the challenges. Have you played all of the different games yet or do you have a favourite? Why not try playing a different one - it might even become your new favourite!!!
Maths
Roll a dice three times and make a 3 digit number. Write it down. Roll just one dice again and either add it to the first number or subtract it. Make sure that you line up the columns carefully. Check whether you have to exchange and make sure that you do this carefully. (Make sure that you take the bottom number from the top number when subtracting - BE CAREFUL!!!)
(If you don’t have a dice check how to generate numbers on line from Monday’s home learning blog)
English
Part 1 - Today I would like you to check and correct any spelling mistakes in your Italy work from yesterday so that your notes are all ready to use for later in the week.
Part 2 - Please spend some time practising your spellings for this week too
famous guide promise favourite possible continue
What about getting a pot of water and a paintbrush and writing them on the garden flags or writing them in chalk?
Science
This week’s Science is all about careful observation. You don’t need to write anything down unless you want to. Just make sure that you are observing carefully and talking about what you have seen. Reading (from books or finding out on the internet) is also an important aid in this week’s Science lesson.
Look out for signs of spring when you are outside - what do you notice? Can you see the changes that are taking place? Talk to your grown up about the changes that you can see. Keep looking every day to see if you can see anything different happening. (Keep a log of these if you want)
Make sure that you are using your senses to help you. What can you smell, hear and feel too? (Don’t go around tasting unless your grown up says it is okay).
Have you noticed anything about the days just recently? Look what time the sun comes up and goes down on the weather app. Check this out every day for a few days - what do you notice?
With all the sunshine we have had lately there are lots of lovely flowers beginning to grow. Look out for them in the garden or when you are out on a walk. How many can you identify and name? Have you read any amazing facts about these in the books you have read this week? If not why not look up some of these on the internet and see what you can find out about them.
With so many flowers around, there are many more insects. I’ve seen bumble bees, butterflies, beetles, woodlice, ants and midges in my garden. Which insects can you spot? Again can you find out any amazing facts about them?
You could even draw a picture of any flowers or insects you see if you want.
Some of you have been planting in the garden. Maybe you could plant some seeds and watch them grow over the coming weeks. You could take photos as things begin to grow.
Have fun!
Year 3 Tuesday 31st March 2020 Learning from Home
Good morning everyone. We hope that you are all well and ready to learn.
Have you checked out the weekly challenges? There’s a lovely one to go with your French work this week. (Tasty too!)
Reading
Read in a quiet space and don’t forget to quiz if you are ready to. Send us a picture of you reading so that we can share it. (Tomorrow your science will involve insects and plants, so maybe have a look at the e-books and find a suitable one). Don’t forget to quiz.
Sumdog
Which challenges can you nail today? Have you tried playing against anyone yet?
Maths - using column addition and subtraction
Roll a dice twice and make a 2 digit number. Write it down. Roll the dice twice again and either add this number to the first number or subtract one from the other (make sure that you start with the greatest number and subtract the lower number) Make sure that you line up the columns carefully. Check whether you have to exchange and make sure that you do this carefully. (Make sure that you take the bottom number from the top number when subtracting - BE CAREFUL!!!) (If you don’t have dice check out yesterday’s home learning for how to generate numbers on line).
English
Today, I would like you to start doing some research into the country of Italy, as we will be writing our non chronological report about it later in the week.
Part 1
Use the internet or any books you have at home to read about Italy. As you are reading I would like you to write notes, today we are writing only notes rather than full sentences.
i.e Capital—Rome
As well as practising the skill of reading and taking notes I would like the children to practise listening and taking notes.
Part 2
Parents—with part of the information you have found pick a paragraph to read aloud to your child. Please read a sentence at a time to your child and allow them some time to write down some notes from what they have heard.
Parents please make sure that you think carefully about search terms you are typing into the search engine, so that children see the appropriate kind of information about Italy rather than what may be happening there right now.
Please research these areas and write notes in sections on your page in your home learning book
Where is Italy? Which continent is it in? Which countries surround it? Which oceans surround it?
Food
Weather
Landmarks and physical features - rivers, mountains, volcanoes etc
Religion
National celebrations
Then write down one really interesting fact that you found out today (it doesn’t have to be about any of these areas I have given ) —remember in note form.
French
Since we normally do French on a Tuesday and today is Tuesday, here is some French for you to do.
We would like you to watch the You Tube clip “J’aime les fruits” — click the button and learn the names of the different fruits. Sing–a–long with the song and learn the names as you sing.
You could also watch the first part of You Tube video on vocabulary to learn the names of more fruit and veg too.
Can you either print off the sheets here and match the names to the pictures? (if you have a printer) or you could draw yourself some pictures of fruit and vegetables (just like on the sheet) and write the names in French underneath. Make sure that you copy carefully.
If there’s any fruit or vegetables on the sheet that weren’t on the videos then maybe you could investigate what they are on the internet. Have fun!
Year 3 Monday 30th March 2020 Weekly Challenges - Please also check out today's daily challenges.
Good Morning Year 3. We hope that you had a lovely weekend. Are you ready for another exciting week of learning? Let’s go then!! This week’s challenges are:

This week we want to develop your typing skills . You can do this by having a go at some of the Dance Mat Typing activities. Click on the link below. We’re loving the animations!!!!
You can also go on Purple Mash and play some of their typing games. Just click on the hands and choose which activity or game you want to play. (You can slow them down or speed them up depending on how quick you can type.) Please let us know how you are getting on. Have fun!!
Daily Exercise
Remember to try to get in some exercise each day. Joe Wicks seems to be popular, but you could also put on some music and dance, do some yoga, play football, skip with a rope, play tig, go for a walk, go on the trampoline or a jog round the garden. You choose - why not send us some photos!!
Have a look on News around School and also the Sports page, Mrs Gregan is putting on weekly challenges.

Here are your spellings for this week:
famous guide promise favourite possible continue
Don’t forget to try doing some of the Fun Ways to Learn your Spelling from the sheet that I sent home.
Sumdog
Have a go at the challenges that have been set - there’s lots to choose from and you can play all sorts of different games. I like the one with the burgers and also the junkyard one. I found the cannonball one really tricky but thanks for the advice Kiefer - it helped a bit but my aim still isn’t too good!!!!!
Nessy
If you have a Nessy login make sure that you are continuing with your reading and spelling practice. We have had some really good Nessy Stars this week. Keep up the good work.
French
Now this one is a real challenge - set by Madame Jefferson. Can you follow the instructions here to make fruit ice lollies? If you can… you are in for a treat once they have frozen. Have fun!!! (You can always use Google translate to help you -copy words or phrases you don’t know, paste into Google translate and ask Google to translate for you.) You might want to change them slightly to include the fruits you like. Please send us some pictures - we would love to see them.
Have fun learning at home and remember to keep in touch.
Lots of love and prayers to all of you. Take care and keep safe.
The Year 3 Team xx
Year 3 Monday 30th March Learning from Home - please also look at the weekly home learning (it has a Sunflower image)
With all of this lovely sunshine that we have been having recently the daisies are beginning to grow in the gardens. What else can you see growing? Listen carefully and what can you hear? I’ve got lots of lovely birds singing in my garden and of course I can hear my hens clucking. They just love the sunshine! Think about all of these beauties of nature as you are in the garden this week. You will need it for science on Thursday.
Have you taken a quiz yet? Make sure that you are trying hard to get those 100% scores.
Maybe have a look at some of the insect books on the free ebooks and take a quiz on those.( Again it will help you in science later in the week).
Maths
Keep doing the challenges on Sumdog. How are you doing? Had any burgers lately?
Roll a dice twice and make a 2 digit number. Write it down. Roll just one dice again and either add it to the first number or subtract it. Make sure that you line up the columns carefully. Check whether you have to exchange and make sure that you do this carefully. (Make sure that you take the bottom number from the top number when subtracting - BE CAREFUL!)

This week we will be building up to writing a non chronological report so we need to practise skills that will help us with this, today we will be learning to write a summary .
This is my example summary about Italy, this is what yours needs to look like. I used the Italy fact file below to gather my information (click on the button to access it and see what I read).
Title of the text - Italy
My summary is - Italy is a mainly Christian country in Europe, the capital is Rome. The weather is varied from part to part, with the coastal regions being warmer than the higher parts where it can be cold, wet and snowy in the winter months. The 60 million people population use the Euro and mainly speak Italian.
Press on the button below to see the text I read
What you need to do children
Part 1 - Please choose a fact file—France, Spain or Germany (Press on one of the buttons below, choose one you would like to use).
Part 2 - Read it (with a grown up to help if needed).
Part 2 - Pick out the most important parts to write a summary, when writing a summary remember these tips.
a. What are the main ideas? What is the most important and relevant?
b. Which information is irrelevant?
Part 3 - Write your summary in your home learning book or on 2write on Purple Mash (if you fancy practising your typing skills—you will find it in the English section on the home page).
RE
Can you read the story of The Cure of the Centurion?
A centurion was an important Roman soldier. He was the commander in charge of a hundred soldiers in the Roman Army that controlled Palestine at that time. It is possible that most centurions would not have liked the Jews, but this centurion was different…
Have you heard any of these words at Mass before?
Yes that’s right we say…‘Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the Word and my soul shall be healed.’ When do we say this?
Have a look at these Mass responses. Which ones have you heard before? Which ones do you know?
Year 3 Friday 27th March 2020
Good Morning
Well this is the last day of the first week of learning at home. The weekend starts tomorrow, so no home learning will be set after today - until Monday morning. Well done to all of you who have been busy working and learning at home, we hope that you have enjoyed it.
Today we would like you to try to make sure that you have done all of the tasks set so far this week, and to also get the tasks done for today. Have you checked out the weekly challenges?
Sandwiches
On the weekly challenges you will hopefully have noticed that one of the tasks was to make sandwiches for everyone to enjoy. Well done if you have done this already. I know some people have, (look at the photos - delicious!!!).
Today’s English is to write instructions for making a sandwich of your choice, you can do this on Purple Mash. Make sure that you think carefully about your instructions, writing them in order, using imperative (bossy) verbs, using time adverbials etc. Think of your ending sentence to finish off your instructions too. Once you have done this save your instructions so that we can have a look at them. Make sure that they can be followed easily by someone else - don’t miss any bits out otherwise your sandwiches might be very strange!!!!!
Maths
There are lots of Sumdog challenges on line, have you had a go at these? If you have not accessed Sumdog yet please make sure that you look at the Sumdog blog from Monday (23/03). It will tell you how to access your account and what your username and password are. There is even a video put together by Mrs Hotchkiss to explain what to do, make sure you check it out.
We would also like you to have a go at comparing and ordering measurements today.
Part 1. Pick a set of 6 items and measure them carefully.
Measure 2 of them in mm
Measure 2 of them in cm and mm
Measure 2 of them in m, cm and mm
eg Item 1 = 85mm Item 2 = 45mm Item 3 = 6cm 5mm Item 4 = 10cm Item 5 = 1m 85cm Item 6 = 3m
Part 2. Can you order them from shortest to longest?
Look carefully at the measurements you have made. What do you notice. Does the item with biggest number mean it is the longest or the one with the smallest number mean the shortest? Can you explain?
Try out a different set of objects.
RE
We have come to the end of our first week of learning at home. Take some time to thank God for the fun times that you have all had.
Write a Thank You prayer to God thanking Him for all of the good things that have happened to you this week. Illustrate your prayer.
Don’t forget to spend a little quiet time with God sharing this prayer with Him. You might want to light a candle and find some objects or a picture to look at, like we do during liturgy in class.
Maybe you could take a picture and send it to us or send us an email with your prayer written on it so that we can share them with everyone.
Have a good weekend. Take care and stay safe xxx
Year 3 Thursday 26th March 2020 Learning from Home
Good morning everyone. Hope that you are all well and ready for some more learning.
Reading
You can now access Accelerated Reader quizzes at home. Click on the button below to take you to the website. You should then be able to access it as you would at school. You can also access ebooks via Accelerated Reader too (see yesterday’s Learning at Home blog). Keep reading -enjoy. We will be looking to see how you are getting on with your quizzes. - can you get 100%?
Good to see that some people have spotted this already and have already had a go. Remember to read the questions carefully and think about the answers. You can always go back to the book and check for an answer if you are not sure. Glad to see some great 100% scores already too. Keep up the good work.
Art
We know how much you all like your art lessons with Mrs Curtis. So, today being Thursday is no exception. Make sure that you check out the art page to see what you have to do. It looks really exciting. Have fun and don’t forget to send us some photos!
The Iron Man
Can you read the remainder of Chapter 5. (Here is the whole of Chapter 5 for you to read)
Please make sure that you work neatly and carefully. Don’t forget the date and make sure it is underlined. Think carefully about your presentation. Can you get a pen point or a Cooper Crab learning point today. What about the other characters? Could you get one of their learning points? Try hard and work well.
Today we would like you to draw a picture of the Iron Man on the fire pit. Label him and describe what is happening to him.
Now write a diary entry by the Iron Man of what has happen to him over the last few days. Remember to write in the first person (I, me, we) and write in the past tense. Become the Iron Man and make your diary entry believable.)
Maths
Estimate how long and then measure as many different items that are longer than 1m.. You could try the table, the kitchen work surface, your bed, the patio, the grass, the lounge etc etc. Can you find some unusual things to measure?
Write your answers in your maths learning from home books, set it out like we have done over the last few days. Remember to be neat and don’t forget to date and underline your work. Give it a title too.
Can you make your own metre stick if you haven’t got a long tape measure? Make sure that it is accurate and has carefully measured cm or blocks of 10cm.Make sure that you mark carefully where 1m ends on the object and then start measuring the next metre at exactly the same point.
Year 3 Wednesday 25th March Learning at Home
Don’t forget to keep emailing us those pictures of you learning from home - then we can share them on our class blog. We are really enjoying seeing you learning at home. We’ve had quite a few but not everyone has contacted us yet. We would love to hear from you all.
Keep reading - try to read for 30 minutes each day. Can you find any new or exciting words? Add them to your magpie list and find out what they mean.
Have a go at accessing the (rather long) link below. This is the Accelerated Reading scheme that we use at school offering free ebooks to read at home. Make a list of the books that you would like to read over the next couple of weeks, and then …. start reading! You can click the information button on the books to see what reading ZPD level they are, so check that they are within your range, or you may even want to challenge yourself a little!

You can now access Accelerated Reader quizzes at home. Click on the button below to take you to the website. You should then be able to access it as you would at school. Keep reading -enjoy. We will be looking to see how you are getting on with your quizzes. - can you get 100%?
The Iron Man
Read part of Chapter 5.
Can you write instructions for putting the Iron Man back together again once he has reached Australia?
Make sure that you use imperative verbs (they are the bossy ones) and also some time adverbials - first, then, next, after that etc. Make sure that your instructions are in order and that they are clear so that they could be followed. You can do this on Purple Mash as we have put it on a “2do” - don’t forget to save it so that we can have a look at it.
Predicting: What do you think the challenge that the Iron Man gave to the Space-bat-angel-dragon will be? Write your ideas down. You could start your sentences with:
I wonder if … or Maybe the Iron Man’s challenge is to … or I think that …
Make sure that you check your sentences and that you have included punctuation. Keep your writing neat.
Do you think that the Space-bat-angel-dragon will take on the Iron Man’s challenge? What do you think will happen? Write about your prediction.
Maths
Remember to check out the sumdog website. We have added some different challenges for you to be getting on with.
Can you use a ruler to measure in mm (millimetres) Remember there are 10mm to every cm. Using mm to measure allows you to be more accurate and to measure much smaller items. Can you find some things to measure and measure them carefully. Remember that you always need to start at the 0 on the ruler and measure carefully to the end of the object.
Record your measurements in your maths learning at home book. Remember to work neatly.
Can you record how many mm and then record how many cm and mm? Make sure you think carefully.
e.g. A box 102mm 10cm 2mm
How many things can you measure? Have fun!
Geography challenge
Our new topic is ‘Our European neighbours’, in our first lesson we found the continents on a map and found out some facts about Europe. Next I would like you to use the internet to find a world map and complete the European countries 2do on Purple Mash. You should already have all of your login details and it should just pop up when you access it.
Year 3 Tuesday 24th March Learning at Home
Good morning everyone.
We hope that you enjoyed learning yesterday. Here’s more exciting learning for today.
Remember to read every day and also to go on Nessy if you have a Nessy Login,
The Iron Man
My Prediction: What had the space-bat-angel-dragon come to earth for? Think carefully about your sentences - make them exciting. Can you use a complex sentence? Think about your vocab. Be brilliant!!!! Explain clearly and in detail why it has come to earth. What is it going to do? How is it going to do it? Why does it want to do this? Where does it want to do this? Does it need any help? etc
My Prediction: What do you think the Iron Man thought that he could do? Make sure that your explanation is clear and detailed. Use different sentence openers and try to use some complex sentences. Use exciting vocabulary.
Remember neat handwriting please Don’t forget to date your work and underline it with a ruler.
Read the rest of chapter 4 - here is the whole of chapter 4 - after you have done your predicting.
Spellings to learn for this week:
Try to practise them every day.
question answer learn material exercise imagine
Why not have a go at doing them on a picture like Mrs Harrison showed you earlier in the year or have a go at some of the fun ways to learn your spelling on the sheet I sent out/ put on our blog 2 weeks ago.
Spelling test at home next week to check how you are getting on with them. Please let us know your score next week.
Maths
Have you looked at the SumDog video and login yet? Why not give this a go!
Using a ruler with cm, find different items around the house and measure them carefully. Before you measure them can you estimate how long they are. When you measure, make sure that you start measuring at 0cm and check the end of the object carefully. (Does it make a whole cm?)
Can you measure your learning at home books, your reading book. your pencil case, the remote control, a Lego brick, your tablet/ipad or similar, a £5 note? What else can you measure? Make sure that you record your estimations and the actual measurement of the things that you measure in your maths learning at home book. (Set it out like you did yesterday - make sure that you work neatly and carefully) Estimate and then measure. How close were you? The more you measure and get to know how long things are, the easier you might find it to make good estimates.
Science challenge
Mrs Nel would like you to start having a go at some Science, the learning is all about forces and pushes and pulls. Please read the learner guide on BBC Bitesize. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zvpp34j/articles/zywcrdm
Then watch the class clips here
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zvpp34j
There are 14 little videos so maybe watch 3 a day this week and discuss them with your grown up.
When you have read and watched all of this information please create a poster, either on Purple Mash or in your Home Learning book, on how we use push and pull forces in our every day lives. Show at least 4 push and 4 pull forces and draw an arrow to show in which direction the force is being exerted.
By the end of the week you will need to
Have read the learner guide
Watched the class clips
Made a poster about pushes and pulls

Year 3 Monday 23rd March - Learn at Home
Good morning Year 3
We hope you have had a lovely weekend with your family and are ready and raring to go this morning. We know it may seem strange to be sat at home with a parent showing you the learning you will complete today, but we know you will all make the best of it! The children at school will be completing these tasks too, so we can all share our great learning when we return to school. At school we will adapt our reward systems to suit our groups, maybe you can set up a learning point system like we have at school, a star of the day or even some golden time. Children, you can do these tasks in any order—work out what is best for you and your family. Parents, be creative and flexible with how you manage these tasks. Please give as much or as little support as needed, we are always aiming to build on independence in class, but the children know asking for help is a part of the learning process.
English
Please read the Iron Man chapter 3 if you were not in school last week. You might want to read this with someone or you might want to have a go by yourself.
Please read The Iron Man part Chapter 4
If you were not in school last week, you might like to draw a picture of the space dragon. Use the text to help you.
Today’s task is to write your own description of what the space dragon looks like. Remember to use lots of lovely description.
Creativity and maths challenge
The children have been reading Ted Hughes’ book ‘The Iron Man’ in English, and we would like you to make an ‘Iron Man’ out of the cardboard boxes and tubes you have been collecting over the weekend. Maybe you could colour it, paint it or use paper to cover it once you have built it? This challenge may take a couple of days to complete and you might want to break the tasks up into little chunks of time, suit the task to your day.
Your Iron Man can be however big or small you want, but before you start to make it we would like you to practise these key maths skills:
To be able to estimate the length of items in centimetres (remember estimates don’t need to be exactly right, how close can your estimates be to the real measurement?
To be able to measure with a ruler in centimetres.
Part 1—Estimate the length of each of your Iron Man’s body parts in cm.
Part 2—Measure the length of each body part of your Iron Man with your ruler.
Part 3 - Make your Iron Man
Part 3—When your Iron Man is complete measure the total height of your model in centimetres.
Please record your estimates and measurements in your home learning maths book for us to see when you return to school, you could set it out like this.
Body part Estimate (in cm) Actual measurement (in cm)
Legs— kitchen roll tubes 24cm ____cm
Head—cereal bar box 14cm ____cm
Eyes - milk carton lids 2cm ____cm
Arms - toothpaste boxes 12 cm ____cm
Body - cereal box 38cm ____cm
The total height of my Iron Man is 72cm
Enjoy! Please email photos of your Iron Man if you can, we would love to see them.

Homework 27th February 2020
Whilst we are preparing for First Reconciliation and then after Easter when we will be preparing for First Holy Communion, homework will be mainly focused on the books “Called to Change” and “Called to His Supper”.
This week the children have been asked to complete the pages 1-15 and this should be completed for our next session on March 3rd.
During Lent we are also thinking about ways that we can help others and we decided in Class Council that we would discuss the ideas we shared in school and come up with a plan and jobs list at home. The children have promised that they will all try to do lots of jobs to help you for a small price, so that they can help others. (See the class blog)
In addition to this children are asked to continue with their daily reading so that they can quiz in school, and also to learn the spellings: eight, eighth, height, breathe, heard and length.
Please write complex sentences using these words. eg. Before I my eighth birthday, I am going to Spain on holiday.
