Remember what you know about place value. When you divide by ten all numbers jump one place to the right.

The Midnight Gang Watch/listen to the first two chapters – up to 13:15 mins:

How is the start of this book similar to the others that we have looked at this week? How is it different?

Look back at all the extracts that you have read this week. Look at the way David Walliams presents his writing, e.g. Aaaaaaarrrggghhh, B A N G !

Why do you think he does this? What effect does this have on you, the reader?

Now watch The Midnight Gang Film.

Note: PG certificate. (Watch from 2:40 mins until 6:20 mins) You are going to write the scene that you have watched in your own words - IN PURPLE MASH (2do Midnight gang recount). Think about the events that have happened since Tom entered the children’s ward.

Things to think about

• write in 3rd person (he, she, they)

• write in the past tense

• include some of your Year 4 skills, e.g. fronted adverbials for where or when

• include speech and remember to use speech punctuation properly

• use some of the David Walliams style of writing, e.g. larger words for effect.

  After you have finished, read your writing out loud and check for spelling and punctuation.

Look back at your chart from yesterday. Think about the characters and their relationship. You are going to help David Walliams write his next book by helping him invent a child and adult character.

1. Draw your characters and label them. Think about: Is your child a boy or a girl? Is the adult a man or a woman? What will their relationship be? (Uncle, Auntie, Grandma, Mum, Step Mum, Dad, Step Dad, Cousin, Sister, Half Sister etc.) What do they look like? Do they have any unusual features?

2. Label your new characters. Try to use some extended noun phrases for your labels, e.g. On top of her head she wore a ruby red beret with a large ostrich feather attached to the side.

3. Write a short paragraph to introduce your characters. Include a description of what they look like

4. Write down some interaction between the characters. Do your characters like each other, admire each other, trust each other, dislike each other or despise each other? Use what they say and do to show this in your writing, e.g. As Auntie Ada entered the room, Isla froze. Immediately, her eyes darted to the floor to avoid any eye contact. “Look up girl when I walk in to the room!” demanded Auntie Ada. From this we can tell that Isla is scared of Auntie Ada and that Auntie Ada is authoritative. When you have finished, read through your writing and check your spelling and punctuation.

Good morning everyone! Welcome to another week of learning. From this week, I am not setting weekly tasks.

Instead, I will spread them throughout the week to be completed daily, like the other Key Stage 2 classes.

You may like to add some inspirational quotes which mean something to you or your family.

Today you are going to think about who inspires you.

Maybe Captain Tom has inspired you.

Maybe a family member inspires you, or maybe a member of your local community. Perhaps you have more than one person that inspires you. Think about who inspires you and write a paragraph about who they are and why they inspire you.

After researching the inspirational people this week, how do you feel? Have you been inspired? Write another paragraph to explain who and what has inspired you this week and how this might influence your actions in the future, e.g. After reading about Greta Thunberg, it has made me consider how everybody’s actions affect the environment. From now on, I will consider how I can help my family to be more environmentally friendly.

Today you are going to research facts about Greta Thunberg. Read the information from the following websites and watch Greta Thunberg's speech to world leaders at the UN Climate Action Summit.

Create a mini biography for Greta. (A biography is the story of someone’s life). Scan the texts to find important dates and numbers, e.g. date of birth, key ages or dates when things have happened in her life. Read sections carefully (close reading) to find out the following: • Where was Great Thunberg born? • What is she so passionate about? • Why is she inspirational? Rather than copying chunks of the text from the websites, try to put the information into your own words. If you find any unfamiliar vocabulary, note that down and use a dictionary, e.g. https://www.wordhipp o.com/ to find the definition.

Try to include some Year 4 sentence types, e.g. fronted adverbials for where or when. eg, A few years later, … From New York, … Make sure you watch my video below to remind yourself of Year 4 grammar.



Once you have finished, check your work back through. Make sure that you have used correct punctuation. If you have used a fronted adverbial, make sure you have put a comma after it.

Hi everyone,

I believe there is some confusion regarding the white rose maths lessons. When you open year 4 White Rose it comes up with the latest lessons they have created. They are up to Summer week 7.

We are using The unit labelled week 1 (not Summer. It is the lowest box on the image below that you need to click on. The activities are matched to this.

I hope this makes things clear. You just need to minimise Summer Term - Week 7 and this list will come up for you to select week 1.

I have set you this task on Purple Mash in 2quiz. As you have never used this before, you will need to watch some help videos. Click on the icon like this at the top of the Purple Mash screen to watch help videos:

As there are many types of quiz question (all with help videos) I would just like you to focus on two question types - text and image and MCQ (multiple choice questions) Watch the introduction video then the video for these types of question.

Then make your quiz!!

Try to include some of the new vocabulary you have learnt in your questions. Test your quiz out on your family at home or your friends.

Year 4 Monday 8th June Home Learning

Welcome to your final half term in Year 4! We still have a lot to do in this final half term - so make sure you are focused like Cooper Crab and Don’t give up like Sadie Spider. First, watch my little video below which just explains a few things you need to know this half term. I will try to make one video each week which explains the coming week and what I expect.

English

We are going to try out some of the special Lancashire English units for the next 2 weeks. Next week’s one is all about David Walliams!

This week you will be exploring people who inspire us. Delve into facts and find out why these people are

inspirational. You’ll also have a chance to think about who inspires you too and make your own ‘Inspiration Book’.

Read and enjoy opening extracts from the following books in a series by Kate Pankhurst about several inspirational women. (You will need to become a member of LoveReading4Kids. Membership is free).

As you read, note down unfamiliar vocabulary and use a dictionary/thesaurus to find out what new words mean. Word hippo is a good one!

Select two or three of your favourite texts read today. Create some charts showing key information and/or mind maps. For example, you could scan the texts to find important dates and create a chart such as the one below.

Alternatively, you could create a mind map, noting all the key information you have read about one of the inspirational people.

Maths

It is time to move on to decimals! The secret is that decimals are just fractions in numerical form! This is why we learned all about fractions first!

I would like you to watch and join in with the videos from White Rose maths to learn about decimals. It is important that you listen carefully, join in properly and pause the screen to complete activities when the online teacher asks you to. You may want to complete them with an adult nearby to help.
