A week of experiments and investigation. Our first experiment was to place white flowers in different coloured water to examine what would happen and why? The children were amazed to see that each flower took on the colour of the liquid we put it in. Wow, how did that happen?
We had a big discussion and then watched a video about the structure of flowers and how they ‘drink’. Everyday we watched the flowers change colour, except for the one that remained in plain water.Perhaps you could have a go at home?
Click on the button below to see everything that we have been doing in nursery this week!
You will probably understand why the children are exhausted by the end of the day.
We then decided to plant some broad beans to find out about germination and the life cycle of a plant. Click here to find out more.
So we could examine the root system more carefully we planted one bean on a clear pot…it’s not germinated yet!
Everyone planted their own bean and when they are strong enough we are going to put them in the garden. If they grow really tall and strong maybe we could climb up and visit the giant!
We found out that it takes time for a seed to germinate and we were eager to see shoots from our seeds so we thought we would plant some cress seeds, as they germinate in a week. Watch out for them coming home. You will be able to make egg and cress sandwiches for tea!
Also, look out for this half terms home link challenge. We will be sending a sunflower seed home for you to nurture at home and then bring back to nursery in the summer term. We are hopeful we can fill our garden with sunflowers, so no pressure! Click here to watch what plants need to grow. I am sure the children will be able to tell you what to do.
We have noticed the sunny weather has made all our daffodils and crocus bloom this week. We thought it would be a good idea to examine them closely and then paint a picture of what we could see. They look wonderful!
We have trying to learn all the parts of a plant. Click here to watch the short video that has been helping us to remember.
On Friday the sunshine was fabulous and we thoroughly enjoyed playing in the garden without our coats, hats and scarves! Bliss!
We started to prepare the garden to plant our meadow on Monday and then we worked a s team to get our water pump working. It took a while but we did it in the end. We spent most of the afternoon pumping the water and making bubbles! It was great fun and very messy.
Later in the day we cleaned the outdoor house and den. We found loads of spiders and slugs, yuk! We (Clare) carefully lifted them all out and placed them on a tray to watch what they did, everyone was fascinated (except for Barbara)!
Here’s a sneaky peak at what we will be up to next week.
Lastly, I have pinned some new learning on Purple Mash if you fancy taking a look. Although, if the sun is shining I would recommend that you take full advantage of it! Who knows how long it will last.
Have the most lovely weekend and we will see you on Monday for another fabulous week of fun and learning.
Barbara

We hope that you all enjoyed the half term break. We are proud to say that everyone has been enthusiastic and ready to work again this week. What a lot of super work has been happening too.
We have started a new story in English this week and this is becoming very exciting. There has been lots of amazing ideas floating around about what might be going to happen. Well done everyone. There has been more wonderful multiplication in maths too. A special shout out to Max who managed to find all 12 of the solutions to the maths problem. Well done Max. We hope you enjoyed the great game of multiplication bingo on our Zoom meeting on Wednesday. Lots of learning points earned. The children are continuing to enjoy TT Rockstars and this is having an impact on recall of multiplication facts too. If you have not tried this yet, don’t forget to follow the instructions for logging in that we posted on the remote learning page. Login details were sent via email. This week we have started our new topic in Geography, all about the Arctic. I know that the children have loved learning about all of the different countries in the Arctic and their flags. In RE this week we have started to look at the Mass and to see the connection between the Mass and the Last Supper. This topic will also help us with preparation for the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Great work this week everyone. We love seeing all of the work that you have been doing and we are so proud of you all. You are little stars shining brightly and we are so looking forward to having everyone back at school together very shortly. See if you can make next week an even better week. Keep trying and you will succeed. Be a Bobby Bee and complete all of your work with enthusiasm.

'Hard times don't create heroes; It is during hard times when the 'hero' within us is revealed.'
Dear Year 4 parents and children,
You are my heroes in these times! The way that you have risen to the numerous challenges I have set; the way that you have worked your way through difficulties taking things in your stride and have continued to work so hard for the sheer love of learning! Despite being apart, we are all still here together learning as a Year 4 community.
This week we have been touched by an amazing story - The Butterfly Lion. Although the ending was a bit chilling, it shows us that we can be there for each other in times of need as Millie was there for the boy. It shows us that with good intentions , we can make a big difference as Bertie demonstrated with his heroic deeds. He did not allow himself to be taken over by fear - he simply acted to help others.
When we get back to school, (which I am so excited about!) we will be revisiting how to go forward with love, compassion and bravery. I cannot wait for us all to be together again, in person, and I will support you with any of your worries or cares.
Also this week, we have started to learn about Volcanoes! Just as we begin to study it, Mount Etna is erupting! They are a force of nature and so fascinating. Next week, I would like you to make your own erupting volcano!
Let’s Celebrate!
This week I had to give out 4 certificates. I have been noticing these 4 children for a few weeks now for their consistency and perseverance through difficulty. Julia, Asher, Lexi and Olivia you have received this week each a Tommy Turtle certificate for having a great go at everything set. Keep it up for one more week!
Notices:
Look out for guidance on the discovery page for our return on Monday 8th March - by reading Miss Hornby’s blog you will gain a clear understanding of school organisation and guidelines.
One more week Year 4! Show me how resilient you are! You will need to engage fully in all learning next week so you are ready to fly with your learning on Monday 8th March in school.
Have a gorgeous weekend - the birds have started to sing and we have…. SUNSHINE at long last!!
God bless,
Mrs Lyons, Mrs Mather and Miss Forster
Year 6 Weekly Blog - "Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.”
I do feel that this year, we have all experienced some form of darkness, but I am so hopeful for the light that is emerging. The days are much brighter and they are lighter for longer, the sun is shining and the children will be coming back to school. We all seem to be moving in the right direction. I am incredibly excited to be welcoming the children back to school on the 8th March.

Good morning Year 3
Gosh, I can’t believe it’s Friday already. What an amazing week this has been. See if you can finish the week off with another amazing day. Be amazing! Do amazing work! Have an amazing day!
Today we are celebrating the birthday of a very special young man in our class. We all wish you a very Happy Birthday and we hope that you have a lovely day today.
On Sunday we are celebrating again, with another 2 birthdays for 2 very special young ladies in our class. Again we hope that you both have a lovely day and a very Happy Birthday.
Sending you all very special birthday wishes from everyone in Year 3.
Reading
Why not finish off today with a good book? Find yourself a cosy, quiet spot and read, read, read. Have fun.
Don’t forget to quiz when you have finished your book. (Don’t forget to prove your answers.)
Congratulations Owen on reaching your reading target already. WOW WOW WOW!!! We have put your birds up and I have reset your target.. Well done!!
Maths fluency
Today is the third fluency of this week, please watch my video of me marking yesterday’s before you attempt today’s.
Maths
Today can you be a Rockstar? Go on Times Tables Rockstars for at least 30 miutes (maybe in 2 sessions of 15 minutes) and see if you can earn some more coins. This week our TTR champions are Leo, Franek and Christian. Well done boys!
Some children haven’t been on it enough to register a score yet, so it will still be giving out extremely tricky questions on times tables we might not have practised yet. Children, do not worry just keep trying and when it registers your score it will make the questions suited to you.
Purple Mash
You will see that I have marked Wednesday’s maths question differently on purple Mash, instead of typing a comment I have recorded a little snippet of me speaking so press on the green triangle underneath your completed 2do to hear your feedback. It was quite good fun, so I may do it that way sometimes.
English
Let’s see what is going to happen to Jack and Ben today. What was that noise? Will they investigate or will they run away? Watch the video to find out.
