  3. adore - adoration

  4. prepare - preparation

  5. admire - admiration

  6. explore - exploration

  7. inform - information

  8. observe - observation

Ongoing Maths:

Please continue with the IXL strands: E1- E8 under addition one digit

During our Maths lessons it is clear that some children need extra work and practice with their number bonds to 10. Children should see that the pairs of numbers make 10 instantly and need consistent practice at this. Please could you practice these at home and can be done any time said out loud, maybe quick fire as you are travelling to and from school, while you are brushing your teeth, anywhere! There is also this great website which some children will be practicing on in the mornings- they even do an app for this game for tablets and phones:

Follow the link below, click on ‘number bonds’ and then ‘make 10’. children should be encouraged to stay on this game and try and beat their score against the clock every time.

PE

During PE we have started our striking and fielding unit of work. We started our first lesson this week, focusing on the underarm throw. We need more practice to make sure that we are passing the ball effectively and accurately in to the persons hands. Please get outside (where the weather allows) and get throwing different size balls underarm, furthering the distance of these passes as they get more confident.

There is also many different games you can play to develop accuracy , control and power when throwing this way, why not try them:

  • Throwing balls in to different size containers

  • Throwing the ball against a target on the wall

  • put a ball on top of a bucket and try to knock it off with a smaller ball

  • rolled up socks are good to use if the weather is bad, throwing them in to different sized containers.

Have fun with it, make it in to a competition!

We need to remember the following points when throwing underarm:

  • stand in the direction of the throw

  • one foot in front of the other

  • bring arm straight back

  • swing arm forward and release the ball

  • fingers point at the target

Year 3 Home Learning 3.12.21

This week’s strategy is called ‘Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check’.

This is probably the most common strategy used to learn spellings.

Look – First look at the whole word carefully and if there is one part of the word that is difficult, look at that part in more detail.

Say – Say the word as you look at it, using different ways of pronouncing it if that will make it more memorable.

Cover – Cover the word.

Write –Write the word from memory, saying the word as you do so.

Check – Have you got it right? If yes, try writing it again and again! If not, start again – look, say, cover, write, check.

This week we are adding the suffix - ly.

  1. serious - seriously

  2. final - finally

  3. sudden - suddenly

  4. quick - quickly

Particularly the final two paragraphs that have not been as practiced at the others.

Year 3 Home Learning 26.11.21

Spellings:

This week's strategy is called ‘Quick write’. The aim is to write the word as many times as possible in one minute. Your child may look at the word to begin with but should be encouraged to memorise it towards the end of the one minute or as soon as they feel confident.

Even though children are writing quickly they should still be encouraged to present work to a high standard.

If you would like to extend the homework you may want your child to think, say and write one or more sentences with one or more of the words in.

Our spelling focus this week is adding the suffix -ous. When adding this suffix we sometimes need to change the root word and sometimes the root word remains the same. Remember, “Is there a letter I need to swap? Is there a letter to double or drop?”

  1. dangerous

  2. poisonous

  3. hazardous

  4. nervous

  5. generous

  6. ridiculous

  7. tremendous

  8. venomous

Welcome to the Year Three Weekly Home Learning Page.

On this page you will find details of learning for your child to complete as independently as possible or with a little bit of help at home , to consolidate the learning they have done in class. Home Learning will be a combination of online and in their home learning books, depending on the nature of the learning I would like them to practise.

Home learning is set every Friday and is to be completed by the following Thursday - apart from this week!

Please decorate your Home Learning Books…

homework books.jpg

Please could you decorate your books that show your interests and likes. As these books are to be taken to and from school all year, we kindly ask that you cover them in a material that will keep them strong. Children have used sticky back plastic or wrapping paper, to do this in the past.

Class Councilor (optional)

Do you want to be our councilor this year? Have you never done it before? Is this your year?

Prepare a short speech and maybe poster to the class ready for next Tuesday. You can be as creative as you want. Why should we vote for you to be our next councilor?

READ, READ, READ

Now that we have got our reading books in place, please could the children make sure that they read every night. Although they are now in the juniors and we encourage them to read independently, they should also read alongside an adult every day where possible. This may also include, you sharing a book together, where they are listening to an adult reading to them. At this point, they are learning HOW stories should be read, how punctuation helps to show us how a story should be ready and how to develop their fluency and expression. Modelling reading stories is a crucial part to their learning journey.

With their reading books children will also have received their own bookmark with all of their passwords for IXL, Purple Mash and other tools we use for their home learning. Like with their book, please make sure it comes to and from school everyday, as they will need their books for class reading.

Spellings

Spellings of the half term …

spelling column 1.PNG

At the front of the children’s Home Learning books you will find a table of spellings that children across Year 3 and 4 use frequently within their writing, therefore are encouraged to practise and learn to spell. Every half term we will take a column to focus on in class, where we have them on display, we will practise them in our handwriting lessons and we will use them within our writing as much as possible. At the end of the half term, we will quiz the children on the spellings to see which ones we have mastered and which need a little more practice. It would be great if at home you could also play about and practise these spellings over the coming weeks to better reinforce. You will find some ideas below of how you can practise these at home and the first column of spellings.

Spellings of the week …

Children will have spellings sessions every week and to help reinforce the spelling rules, they will also be given 6 spellings to practise at home. This week our rule is “drop the ‘e’ before adding the ‘y’” Therefore this weeks spellings :

1. shine

2. wave

3. breeze

4. simple

5. craze

6. curve

Please practise spelling these words with the suffix ‘y’ ready for our spelling quiz next week. Don’t forget the spelling rule!

These spellings will all have the same spelling rules, so be great if you could discuss this rule and maybe even collect others words that have the same sounds or rule. Again, the ideas below will help you keep their learning fun and engaging. Be great if you could send pictures also, if you have any new and exciting ways of learning their spellings!
