Here are Tuesday’s lessons for you. Enjoy!
Year 4 Remote Learning Tuesday 19th January
English
First of all, well done for your super new episodes in the story that you did yesterday. I displayed some of the really well-thought out and funny ones on our displayboard in Purple Mash. Take time today to have a read of them! We had so many new words to weave - stunning, fine, family, sensational, brave, unique. Your work was very well considered Year 4. We now have to make sure we are using our Year 4 grammar skills too!
Can you rank the characters in Charlotte’s Web? Watch my video of the next part of the story and follow my instructions. I have set you a 2do in purple mash called ‘Character ranking - Who is the kindest?’ Make sure you give at least two reasons from the text.
Maths
Today we are going to start learning the 9x table. Follow the video below, pausing to do the maths fluency and the activities on the sheet below. I have then set you a 2do on purple mash. You should find the sheet easier to fill in today - as I have already inserted text boxes for you to fill in.
Computing
For our new computing topic, we are learning how to use 2email on Purple mash. I know some of you have already had a little try. It is important you watch the video below and carry out the activities. Remember, Mrs Lyons reads and approves every email you send to each other!
French
I have set you a series of short 2dos in Purple Mash - learning how to say family names like, mother, father, sister and brother in French! They are fun. Enjoy!
Year 3 Remote learning Tuesday 19th January 2021
Can you be resilient like Sadie Spider today?
Reading
Read, read, read! Only reading can take you to a different world straight from your home. Will you go to Neverland? Back in time with knights and queens? To the future in a spaceship? It’s your choice - Enjoy!
Maths
Below is today’s lesson, you are dong so well with your maths. I am very proud of you. This week we are going to start doing our fluency on a Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The fluency sheets are set as 2dos on Purple Mash for you, they will appear on the relevant days and you will need to hand them in to be marked. To zoom in to see more clearly click on the magnifying glass in the top right hand corner of the Purple Mash screen.
You may want to do all your working out on paper and then when the timer has finished you can copy your answers on to your Purple Mash sheet.
I will be showing you how I worked out the answers in a little video tomorrow.
NOTE - WE HAVE JUST TRIED THIS AT SCHOOL AND MAYBE I WAS A LITTLE AMBITIOUS WITH THE AMOUNT OF QUESTIONS I PUT ON, PLEASE DON’T WORRY IF YOU DIDN’T GET VERY FAR TODAY!
English
Today we are going to read the final part of chapter 3. We will find out where Hogarth and the farmer have been leading the Iron Man. Where do you think they were going?
Read the chapter with me carefully and then complete the activities, I have set you a 2Do on Purple Mash - please make sure that you save it and hand it in when you have completed it. Also have you had a look at the Iron Man blog page on Purple Mash yet. Have a look and see if you can add your ideas and questions.
Art
Have a look on Mrs Curtis’ art page and complete the art task for this week. Don’t forget to send your photos to Mrs Curtis so that she can add them to the Art Gallery. Have fun.

The link to Accelerated Reader quizzes is on the orange ‘How to help your child’ button, it will take you straight to the log in page that you see in school. See if you can get closer to your target. Have you made your own rainbow yet?

How are you getting on children? Well I hope!

No matter whether they are at home or school the children are trying hard to be positive and do their best to demonstrate the different learning characters. We have so many Cooper Crabs, Kiki Chameleons, Bobby Bees, Sadie Spiders, Roger Robins, Curious Clara Clownfish, Tommy Turtles and Lizzie Ladybirds it has been very difficult to choose who will receive our certificates this week.
We hope that you are all keeping well and staying safe during these very strange times. “Thank you” for all of the lovely photos showing the children engaging in their work at home and also for all of the lovely emails from you too. We really do appreciate these. We hope that you will enjoy looking at the photos of the children working both at home and at school this week. Well done children, thank you parents..
There has been some lovely writing this week, all relating to our super class novel - The Iron Man. Well done children you have been very creative and full of enthusiasm. We are really impressed with the maths work that has gone on both at home and in school this week. The children have all worked so hard to move towards mastery of addition and subtraction involving exchanges this week and they are all doing so well. We hope that you enjoyed this week’s science lesson. It certainly was very exciting when we did it in school. The children now definitely understand what digestion and the digestive system is all about. (Yes it was rather messy - I said it would be, but it really helped with understanding.) In computing the children have worked hard to manipulate their photos and present them in a collage. Make sure you have a look on the blog that Miss Edmondson has added to the webpage. In RE we have started looking at Reconciliation. This will also help us in our preparation for receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation, which hopefully we will be able to celebrate once we are back to normal. Just like it said at the top of the blog - There are so many reasons to be happy.
Let’s Celebrate:
This week the children both at home and in school have continued to impress us with their enthusiasm and concentration. We are so proud of all the super learning that is taking place at home and in school and how children are continuing to engage with the videos and lessons. Keep up this super work children and thank you for everything that you have sent to us.
This week, we are delighted to present Rosa and Anncia with their certificates. Rosa receives a Bobby Bee certificate for being such enthusiastic learner this week. You have been amazing with everything and such a little star with your reading quizzes and IXL. Well done Rosa. Keep up the good work. Anncia, you have grown in confidence so much and shown that you are such a brave Tommy Turtle. Well done Anncia, you are working so hard and we are all so proud of you and everything that you are learning.
(Even more reasons to be happy!)
Even more reasons to be happy - children your learning this week has made us so proud. Keep smiling everyone!!
Things to Note:
Please make sure that your child has layers on during this cold weather. We need to have doors and windows open for ventilation and so the classroom is really cold at times. Thank you.
Don’t forget that if your child is learning at home, they can take reading quizzes from home again (Go to the orange “How to Help your Child” on the class page and scroll down to find the Accelerated Reader button—click on this, log on and take a quiz as you would in school).f your child is learning in school, we will be doing PE on Mondays and Fridays. (PE kits needed please)
If your child is learning in school, they will need an art shirt for their art lesson - art will be on Tuesdays. Art shirts can be kept in school. (see Mrs Curtis’ blog)
We will not be giving the usual homework during Lockdown.
We would like to thank you all for your continued support and co-operation this week. We really do appreciate all that you are doing to support the children with their learning at home and all of the emails etc that you are sending to us, it really is important to us to try keep our class together.
Please do continue to email us and keep in contact. We are here to help where we can and to keep the children learning.
Take care and stay safe

What another jam packed week it has been! I have continued to be blown away by the amount of work produced by both the children in and out of school. Once again, thank you for all of the lovely photographs and keeping me up to date with all of the learning and progress at home. Don’t forget to send photographs of the children in the pictures too - I can then pop these on here for our friends to see what we have all been up to.

This week has definitely been a lot calmer here in school, hopefully at home you are getting into a routine as a family with all the things you are juggling. I think you are all doing a fantastic job, the beaming smiles on the pictures and videos you are sending me say it all!

Another week full of ‘finding out! We have continued with our learning thread about polar regions and the animals which have made such conditions their home. This has led us to explore new themes such hibernation, camouflage and nocturnal animals. Wow, have we been busy!
Click here to watch a fabulous video about camouflage, the children loved it. They have even learnt some of the animal names.
We have continued to find out about liquids and solids. We even made some ice globes and recreated the Arctic and Antarctic using ice cubes. We compared our winter months to the weather at the ‘poles’ and decided it was cold but not that cold! Next week we hope to make snow!!! We can’t wait!
We read the story Winnie in Winter. Click here to listen.
The children have enjoyed ‘number 4’ activities, it seems to be a favourite, mmmm I’m not sure why? We have counted ice cubes, collected objects to four and had a peek in our number 4 bag. There’s so much to learn.
I have put some photos together to show everything we have been doing at nursery.
Later in the week the children made bird feeders, we thought the birds would get hungry during the winter! We used bird seed and fat.
You may want to take part in the RSPB Garden watch. Click here to get involved and to find out more!
I’m sure you will agree we have been very busy! Over the coming two weeks we will be exploring wild animals and their habitats. Watch this space!
Whilst I have your attention, can I remind everyone to wear masks when dropping off and collecting your children. We really do want everyone to remain safe and well.
Also, can you make sure that your send your child to nursery in warm clothing. As nursery windows and garden door is left open for ventilation, it can get chilly. I would suggest layered clothing (vest, t-shirt, jumper/hoodies/ fleece), then if it gets too hot the children can remove and item of clothing (please make sure that all items are clearly named).
I would like to finish on a happy note. As you are aware Sarah has not been at nursery for a few weeks and we are all missing her a lot, but I am very pleased to tell you that she is fine and well and expecting a baby in the spring. Everyone is thrilled, but at the moment it means she is unable to come to nursery. I would also like to share the news that Paige has joined the nursery team whilst Sarah is off. She will be taking over Sarah’s key person group alongside Barbara. Please introduce yourself and ‘hello’ when you meet at the gate.
Finally, have a lovely weekend. Enjoy and treasure these (enforced) quiet times together and make some fabulous memories that will last a lifetime.
Barbara
