This week...

The penultimate week of the year and preparations are underway for our Leavers Pirate Party!!!

The children (and nursery ladies) are so excited, I hope everyone is getting their costumes organised!).

We asked the children what has been their favourite activity or learning we have done this year and we have been revisiting some of them. It has been such a happy week and we have learnt soooo much!

Emma’s blog

Hello everyone, what a fun packed week we have had!

We have some exciting news, all of the butterflies have emerged from their cocoons and have been set free in Lytham St Annes, keep a look out for any Painted Lady butterfiles! We hope they are having a nice time. It has been such a wonderful experience.

Our bee houses are up in the garden, and the children are waiting patiently for the bees to move in. In the mean time, the children have been drawing their own version of bees, we have had some great drawings, even a three eyed bee. Did you know that bees have five eyes, one at each side of their heads, and three more at the top of their head to sense any approaching from predators. I'll let you know if we have any bees moving in next week.

We have been getting very excited for our Pirate Party next Wednesday. We have been channeling our inner pirate by dressing up in pirate costumes and building pirate ships in the garden. Our year 6 helpers joined too. Some friends have been drawing their own map, where X marks the spot for the treasure. It has been brilliant to watch the children having fun, finding lots of treasure around the garden, and putting it in Barbara’s treasure box (I think she may be a real pirate!). However, the box went missing! Super Croccy had to come with a mission for the children to help find the stolen treasure and box. The children love it when Super Croccy comes to visit.

The children have been asking to put Dough Disco on the blog so they can do it at home.

Here is a Recipe how to make the play dough. Click here.

Have fun over the summer holidays with all your dough disco moves, and maybe set mummies and daddies a Dough Disco challenge. Have fun!

Click here and here and here!!!

I cannot believe we have one more week left before all the children finish for summer. Next week is going to be sad, but also happy and fun.

Have a lovely weekend see you all on Monday.

Michelle’s blog

Hello and welcome to this week’s blog. We were very excited  when all five of our butterflies metamorphosised . We looked after them by feeding them flowers and sugary water and then we let them free. At first, they didn’t seem to want to fly away, they stayed inside the butterfly house, getting used to the outside air. Then they flew off into the sky. Fly high butterflies, we hope you have good lives.

We also checked on the ladybird larvae, but they have not grown into adult ladybirds yet. We will keep checking.

We have been practising for the Sports Fest on Friday. We used the track and had relay races and backwards races. It’s harder than it looks, running backwards.

We can’t believe it’s nearly the end of the year, where does the time go? They do say time flies when you’re having fun! We certainly have had lots of fun these past months. The children have learnt so much and have grown into such wonderful, lovely, kind people.

We are pleased to say that the fun is not over yet, not by a long way. Next week we will be having a PIRATE PARTY! This is on Wednesday 9.30-11.30. We have got lots of fun, fantastic games planned, like walk the plank and a treasure hunt. Click here if you need any help understanding your little pirate.

We all love story time and we have had lots of pirate stories this week. Here is a bedtime pirate story. Click here.

Have a lovely weekend and we will see you next week for our last week of nursery.

Reading

Final reading target of the year! Let’s go out with a bang and reach our target to top off an excellent year of reading.

Year 6 Weekly Blog 'It's the Final Countdown!'

Not long now until ‘THE GREATEST SHOW’- we can’t wait for you to see it …

It has been another busy week next week, with the play. Most of you have ordered and received your tickets now. The show starts at 6:00pm and will be approximately 2 hours long. The children need to arrive at school at 5:30pm, to get changed in to their costumes. They all look fabulous in their outfits, thank you so much for making such effort. Here is a sneaky peak at rehearsals …

We had such a wonderful afternoon at Blackpool Showtime Museum. It was very exciting getting the double decker bus, and I am sure you heard about our attempt to have a picnic on Blackpool front… we had some very cheeky seagulls swarming in on us to try and take a bite, so we quickly changed the plan! The museum in itself was fabulous and we learnt so much about Blackpool’s History!

Year 6 have been wonderful on their jobs around the school, getting fully involved in their classes activities and learning. Some going above and beyond, by squeezing in to nursery pirate costumes- don’t they look great…

On the last day (Friday) we thought it would be lovely if the Year 6 parents came to collect your children at the later time of 2:15pm, this gives more time on the playground to say your goodbyes and to take any pictures that you may want to take of their final day at Primary School.

We are all looking forward to the leaver’s day out next THURSDAY! It is imperative that all children MUST have a bag with them, containing plenty of fluids, a snack, hat and sun-cream/ waterproof coat dependent on the VERY unpredictable weather. We will be out ALL day, come rain or shine, so haven’t the right things is so vital! They are able to wear their own clothes on this day, leavers hoodies might be nice for pictures? Sensible shoes for walking must also be worn, as we are doing ALOT of walking! Cost for the day, the golf, chippy lunch and ice-cream is now on parentpay. We are charging just £6 for this, as the PTFA are subsidizing part of the cost.

Reports have come home today with the children, I hope you enjoy reading and reflecting on them, they have so much to celebrate from their time at Our Lady’s but like everyone, always something to take away and learn from. The most important part of your child’s report, is the one written by us, as their teacher. We celebrate the WHOLE child, not just their performance on one day, so please let this be your focus and not the SAT’s results. SAT’s results are in the pack, so please have a good look at them along with the explanation- the standardized score on reaching expected for all papers was 100. Remember, results from a test never define you as a person, just look at what they have all achieved this year- there is so much to celebrate and be proud of!

Well done to Poppy and Leo

Wow Poppy, our eyes are drawn to you while you are on stage. Your enthusiasm, confidence and delivery is infectious. Thank you for working so hard on your character, and doing your absolute best on stage! You know every single word of the songs and remember all of the dance moves- we are so impressed!

Leo, you are such a gentleman and an absolute pleasure to work with in the hall, as you push yourself daily out of your comfort zone to give your very best and you are doing amazing! We are so proud of the confidence you are showing! You are also such a help setting up the hall and always ready to offer your services. Likewise, in the classroom, you show great independence and focus- what an all rounder! Thank you.

Grateful and Generous butterflies

This half term we will be on the lookout for all the children that are grateful for their own gifts, the gifts of others and the blessings of each day. We will also be spotting children who are generous, who use their gifts to help others. These children are the role models of the school. This week we thank Jay for always being generous with his own gifts to help others.

Year 2 - Home Learning to be handed in on the final Monday of term (15th July)

As we reach the end of Year 2 I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support with home learning throughout the year. Thank you for working alongside your child: reading, playing numbots, spelling and using letter join to develop their cursive handwriting. It really has made the difference.

READING

Lots of super reading going on in class. It is clear that when they read with you and you chat about the story they are super confident when quizzing!

How many books can you read in this final week? Books will be handed back next week so we can take stock. Time now to turn to the library - members of St. Annes library have been to school to share the “Summer Reading Challenge”. Why not pop along this weekend and get cracking!

MATHS

There is so much excitement around Numbots. We have a group of children who are about to get through the final level- DIAMOND. Please keep going! Please don’t stop - we continue to use Numbots in Year 3. We want everyone to get to the end so that all our addition and subtraction facts and structures are secure. This is a target you can keep working towards during the break from school.

SPELLING

HANDWRITING

We have been writing stories this week and I’ve had lovely creative conversations. We have also chatted about handwriting and which letters are tricky. I would like the children to go into letter join and click on “Hard letters” in the menu bar - watch/try and practice K F Z and X.

Thank you!

SHOWTOWN YEAR 6 TRIP

On Wednesday 10th July, we will be setting off late morning to catch the bus in to Blackpool. We will then be having a picnic on Blackpool front, so fingers crossed for nice sunny weather (we have a back up plan just in case). Children need to be in full school uniform, coats as a precaution, packed lunch unless you have opted for the school packed lunch and a water bottle. If children put their lunches in disposable bags, this will mean we can dispose of them and they won’t be carrying it round all day. No fizzy drinks please. We will be catching the bus back and this is due to arrive at 3:34pm in St Annes, which means we will be back at school at approximately 3:45pm. This is dependent on traffic and room on the bus, but if we will be later you will be informed by text. Thank you.

Year 5 Trip to St Bedes- Thursday 11th July

On Thursday 11th July, we will be spending the day at St Bedes for a PE day. The children will need to be in their PE kits when they arrive to school and are to make sure they bring plenty of fluids (water only). The weather at the moment is forecasted for 15 degrees, with lots of clouds, but please do check for any changes just incase the children will require a coat or sun cream.

Please fill in the form below in regards to what type of lunch your child is having on the day.

Year 1 Homework 5.7.24

Reading

Please continue to read regularly at home and sign the challenge boxes, just a reminder it is one box per day. It was great to see lots of certificates today, keep it up.

Maths:

Keep talking about the time, go on this interactive clock below, can you make different o’clock times and half past times? Where should the minitue hand be? Where should the hour hand be? These games on top marks are great. Keep working on counting in 2s,5s and 10s and use hit the button to practise addition, subtraction and number bonds. Click on number bonds then choose 1-10, 1-20 and up to 100, this will help with fluency.

Handwriting

This is ongoing, there are four more sheets left, the children stuck them in so let me know if there are any missing. Once you have practised I would like you to write a sentence in pre-cursive. It can be about anything, something you are looking forward to, weekend news or what you are doing in the holidys.

Once you log in, you can click on free play to explore at home or Year 1.

To find the letters, click on easy letters, then click on the letters you want to practise, at the bottom of the screen. You can click on the play button to see how you write the letter, then click on try and the bottom of the screen under the play button so you can practice each letter.

Don’t forget to practise with pencils in your purple books

Optional Challenges!

It is wonderful that the children are so excited about their learning and to see how keen they are to continue this outside of school. We welcome any opportunity to share these learning experiences with you at home, which is why we have created ‘optional challenges’ across each year group which can be explored over this Summer 2 half term.

These challenges link to the wider area of our curriculum, there are some activities to help with retrival and some with topics that are coming up.

Below you will find the optional challenges linking to the topics and areas of learning that we will be exploring this half term. These fun challenges are designed to cover a range of skills without being stressful or time consuming for you at home. You are welcome to complete them in any order you wish and it would be lovely to see pictures or examples of things that the children have enjoyed at home.

As always, thank you for your continued support.

Have a lovely weekend

Year 5 Weekly Blog 05.07.24- ' Hope is being able to see the light despite all the darkness'

Oh how the weeks fly by- only two weeks of the year left (which is really hard to believe). Yet again, the children have had to be flexible- with their usual days not being so usual at this time of the year. Practicing for the play has meant lots of time out of class but the effort, focus and commitment towards this has been excellent.

Our week kicked off with our final enrichment morning- with the children taking part in some morning gardening with Mrs Hotchkiss and Mrs Mather. The children could really apply their eco skills and get stuck straight into the tasks.

Wednesday was also a big day for the children as they got to spend the morning in their new class and with their new teaching team on our transition morning. The children were filled with both excitement and a few nerves. Mrs Harrison reported back to me to say how lovely the class were and that she saw huge potential in the class in such a short amount of time spent with them. The children set a series of personal goals to achieve in Year 6 along with playing some exciting games such as human bingo.

We finished our week off in celebration as the children came dressed in red, white or blue clothing to put us in the spirit of the Euro’s (we need all the hope we can get). A visit from NatWest was also a lovely surprise, in which the children took part in a fraud investigating lesson and how to look out for these dangers online.

Let’s Celebrate

  • Ben for being an enthusiastic learner: I have just loved watching you on stage throughout al of our play practices. You really are acting for every minute of the performance. Your comfort and confidence to perform has allowed you to throw yourself straight into any role asked of you. I can’t wait to see this in full motion when you’re in Year 6.

  • Ella for being a reflective learner: You are a child who uses our class council sessions so wisely Ella. You take in every word from your teachers on how we can improve in Year 5 and carry out our advice both in and out of the classroom. Keep being you- keep making the right choices and others will follow.

  • Virtue Butterflies: Our new virtues for the half term are grateful and generous. This weeks butterfly goes to Rafe. You are so generous with your time as you always spend some time after school to help tidy the classroom- even if it isn’t your mess to clean. Thank you Rafe!

  • Wednesday 10th July Music Concert- This will take place at 2pm of this day to celebrate what the children have learned this year in music.

  • Friday 12th July Dominic’s Fundraiser Sports Afternoon- More information available on the blog page in Year 5.

  • Y5/Y6 End of Year Play- Letters regarding costumes for the children’s roles in the play have been sent out and need to be brought into school ASAP. There will be three performances of the play on these dates:

Dominic's Sport's Afternoon- Friday 12th July

On Friday 12th July, Year 5 will be hosting a sports afternoon for the rest of the school in aid of Dominic and to raise money for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity.

The children have been put into teams and will be hosting an activity/station for the rest of the school.

We discussed as a class what prizes we could have for our raffle. Some children have already brought in some prizes which is amazing such as old fidget toys, teddies, puzzles etc. Any other prizes such as big bars of chocolates, sweets bundles etc would be hugely appreciated. All children are allowed to bake cakes in preparation and to be brought in on the Friday- then our cake sale team will then sell these at break times.

Reading

Final reading target of the year! Let’s go out with a bang and reach our target to top off an excellent year of reading. The children will receive their new ZPD codes on Monday to help them pick books when in the library.

Year 6 Weekly Blog ‘If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change’.

In our liturgy this week we read Mark’s gospel, when Jesus went back to his home town, he wasn’t accepted - he was despised and people questioned why he had come. We reflected on how Jesus may have felt and tried to put ourselves in his shoes, if we came back to our school and was treated this way. We talked about the importance of making everyone feeling welcomed and valued. This links beautifully to our school project- all classes have been asked to reflect on what a star in our school looks like and how they will behave. The children have done some beautiful work to show this, take a look at our board …

What a busy week we have had in Year 6. We’ve managed to keep all of our learning going whilst finally finishing our play! Next week we will be running all the way through, making small changes and improving what we have done- maybe even adding a dance in! There are still some children not fully familiar with their lines, please spend time this weekend going over their parts, making sure they know all their lines off by heart with the right expression. They have had their scripts for 6 weeks now and there is only one week to go! Most have booked tickets now, so these will also be sent out later next week.

Not all costumes are put together yet and we are having a big try on early next week, could I please ask that anything they need to bring from home is brought in to school for Monday? Thank you.

This week we have continued our learning in Geography and History. Our transition learning continues and on top of this transition preparation, all children have now been for a visit to their new high school and all have come back positive, looking forward to their new chapter, with of course some nerves. We have spoken in class about these feelings and how we need to share them with the people around us. We will of course, be discussing this in more detail over the next two weeks…

Leavers Day

As we approach the final two weeks of the school year, the celebration of our Year 6 children is at the forefront of our minds. Over the past 7 years, the children have grown into young people who are ready to fly. Young people who know how to be the change that they want to see in the world. They could not have achieved this without the love and support that they received from their school community, and more importantly, their family. For this we thank you.

On Wednesday 17th July, the whole school community will come together at the Leavers Mass to celebrate the class and their journey through primary school. This will take place at 9.30am in church.

The following day, we will be going out for the day for part two of the celebrations! They will be walking down, along the beach, to Fairhaven Adventure Golf and Adventure Playground, where we will stay and have lunch and games for the afternoon. We will then head back to school for the end of the day.

Details and payments for this day out will be given out to you next week and we will finalise arrangements-what your children needs to wear and bring with them on the day.

Delving deeper through talk …

What are you most looking forward to as you move on to high school?

How do you feel about moving on to high school?

Well done to Dominic and Molly-Ann

Dominic, you are such a calming influence on our class. You get on with your work independently, quietly and calmly. Thank you Dominic for being a great role model within the classroom and always doing what is asked of you.

Molly-Ann- This week your positive attitude towards your learning has really shone though. You are working hard independently in class and we loved seeing how enthusiasticc you were about your transition day at St Bede’s.

Grateful and Generous butterflies

This half term we will be on the lookout for all the children that are grateful for their own gifts, the gifts of others and the blessings of each day. We will also be spotting children who are generous, who use their gifts to help others. These children are the role models of the school. This week...

An odd sort of week, blink and you have missed Summer! Everyone has been focused on transitions this week. On Wednesday some of our friends visited Reception for a play and meet the Reception team, and what a fabulous time they all had. i don’t think they wanted to come back to nursey!!

We are all excited for Monday as we will be welcoming Steph back to nursery, after her maternity leave. Please take a minute to introduce yourself.

Emma’s blog

Hello everyone!

I can't believe we are in July and it's still raining! Come on sunshine, where are you?

At the time of writing this blog, our caterpillar pupa are still in their cocoons, but I will keep you posted. The children have really enjoyed studying them...and waiting…

We have also have been looking at the life cycle of bees. We noted how similar it is to a butterfly (although bees don't lays eggs on leaves like a butterfly). Bees use honeycomb as a nursery, honey factory and food store. The queen lays eggs, which then hatch into white grub-like larvae. The larvae pupate and emerge as bees.

Here are some facts about the life cycle of a bee enjoy. Click here.

The children have been busy helping to make bee hotels for the nursery garden. They have decorated tin cans with yellow and black stripes and by cutting smoothie straws to size to fit inside the can, which was a little tricky. As the bees have lost a lot of their natural habitat due to urban development, and changes in the land and faming, we want to help. Our bee hotels are going to hopefully help towards increasing the availability of nesting resources for solitary bees.

Here is a video of how to make a bee hotel at home for your garden. Enjoy! Click here.

Have a wonderful weekend, especially if you are going to Lytham festival.

See you all next week,

Emma

Michelle’s blog

Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s blog.

The weather hasn’t been so good this week, but that hasn’t stopped us at all. We are still very busy investigating all the changes that are happening in the garden. New flowers are blooming, the strawberries are getting ripe enough to eat, and very tasty they were too. The bees have been so busy pollinating all the wild flowers, and the sunflowers are getting taller, but no flowers yet. We have been eagerly awaiting the emergence of the butterflies, but they are still in their chrysalis,  going through their metamorphosis from caterpillars. We did discover we have lots of ladybird larvae in the garden, so we are expecting to have lots of adult ladybirds this year. Here is a short film about the lifecycle of a ladybird. Click here.

PE was lots of fun this week, as we played team games, we had to work together as a team. We also had a go at scoring goals with the footballs and had a penalty shootout.

We have also been thinking about transitions this week as some of our friends will be moving onto Reception, some at Our Lady and some at other local schools. To celebrate our time together we will be having a party, your child should have brought home an invite this week. The children have requested a Pirate Party, so we are busy planning lots of pirate themed games and activities. The next two weeks are going to be busy!

We know that starting school can be daunting for some children (and parents), here is some useful info for you on starting school. Click here.

Have a lovely weekend everyone and we will see you next week

Sticky Kids

This week we have started to learn some new songs about being together and what makes a good friend. The children loved them. Here they are to sing along at home.

We’re all together again. Click here.

Pirate Party

This week I have sent home our Leavers Pirate Party invitation, Wednesday 17th July 2024 9.30 am -11.30 am. We invite all the children to attend but if it not your child’s usual session they must be collected at 11.30 am. You do not have to send in any food as we are hoping for a sunny day and we will have ice lollies!! Fingers crossed!

Everyone must come dress as a pirate even the nursery ladies!!! Arrrrrr!

Sports Fest

On Friday 12th July, Year 5 are organising a Sports Fest. This will be a sponsored event so that you do not need to worry. You can bring 20p to £20 - there is no minimum to get involved. Sponsor forms will be going out on Monday. On the afternoon, all children in school will be out at the same time taking part in a range of activities designed by Year 5; from dancing to racing, to football and everything in between. For the event, they would like the children to come in a kit or uniform that they belong to. For example: St Annes Football Kit, NW1 Academy t-shirt, Clifton Academy, CN Sports, Rainbows, Scouts, Sea Cadets - whatever you belong to, that is your uniform for the day. Please keep it appropriate, especially with gymnastics wear.

The class are also planning a cake sale in the morning and a tombola too!

Join in the fun!

The next couple of weeks are going to be busy so keep your eye on the blog and group text messages, don’t miss out!

Have a fabulous weekend everyone and I will see you on Monday!

God Bless
