Computing:

For the last 2 computing lessons, one of the activities has been working on creating a story of the fable ‘The Hare and the Tortoise’. The children have worked really hard on them and now they just need finishing off please.

Step 1—Open your work by accessing your 2dos and finding the one called ‘2Create a story’ and then pressing the ‘Continue work’ button.

Step 2—Finish off the remaining pages of your story by

· Adding drawings or clip art images for pictures.

· Writing  your sentences underneath.

· Adding Sprites using the dragon button at the top—can you add animation and sound to them using the red cross buttons?

· Adding buttons to go on to the next page using the button at the top with the purple background and the white links.

· Step 3—When complete save it and press the hand in button which will allow me to mark it.

Note—if you struggle to find it on their 2do list it will be because your child has accidentally handed their work in before finishing it. Follow this step to open your child’s work.

Find the 2do called 2create a story (it may be at the bottom of their 2do list) and press ‘Open work’, this will then allow them to continue. Follow the steps then as above.

Computing:

This week we have continued to work on our typing accuracy using the whole of our hands, in our previous lesson we celebrated the children who had completed their typing homework from last time and awarded some typing superstars Bobby Bee learning points. Who could be our Bobbie Bees this time?

For homework this week I would like your child to practise at home by accessing Purple Mash and completing the 2dos on there. There is a worksheet to record their scores on (please record scores, not percentages) this will have been sent home today. Please complete the 2do to go with each box on the sheet and return this to school. There are eleven 2dos in total, ten of them can be played for just one minute by changing the time at the beginning of the game.

Please save the ones called ‘left hand keys’, ‘left hand keys words’ and ‘falling left hand keys’ until your child has completed all the ones on the worksheet first. Please play these three in the order written above, the falling keys ones has to be played for a minimum of two minutes rather than one. None of these games scores need to be recorded, unless you want to.

Please sit with your child throughout the games to remind them to use the correct finger and then all of their hand on the relevant games. Please can the children practise logging into the different computer based learning sites for themselves so that they are able to do it independently.

Find out about your baptism. Write the answers to these questions in your home learning book. Please answer in full sentences, using capital letters and full stops correctly.

Look at any photos you might have of your baptism and think of your own questions that you would like to ask to find out about more about what happens during baptism.

Please can the children practise logging into the different computer based learning sites for themselves so that they are able to do it independently.

Our topic this half term is ‘Typing’ and the children have been practising using all of their fingers and thumbs to increase their accuracy and speed on the keyboard. This is so helpful in all aspects of the curriculum. We have been working on our posture too, no slouching! Some of them even told me about bad habits they have seen with grown ups at home and their typing, there are no secrets with children are there? I best keep my correct seating position at school too! I would like your child to reinforce this at home by accessing Purple Mash and completing the 2dos on there. There are 12 in total, but they can be played for just one minute by changing the time at the beginning of the game. They get harder as you progress through the levels, so please play them in this order. Please sit with your child throughout the games to remind them to use every finger and thumb - no index finger for every single letter children! They are called

It is also good to share the reading of a book at times and also to be read to sometimes as well.  Being able to read and understand independently really is a gift - it opens up so many opportunities and takes you on journeys to such exciting places.

This week we have sent home our new home learning books (blue book). Please could you cover these to reflect your own personality. You might want to use wrapping paper, photos, pictures, sticky-backed plastic etc. It’s your choice, please make it personal to you. Please make sure that you label the book clearly with your name and class too.

Please could you also cover your reading record book (thin green book). This should be returned to school each day with your reading book so that we can continue to read and quiz in school on a daily basis.

Today we would like you to share your best memory of Year 3. Please go on Purple Mash and access the 2do called ‘My memory of Year 3’. Write about a funny or interesting thing that happened in Year 3 so that others can read about it. Draw a picture to go with your memory. Once you have saved it please share it to the display board called ‘Year 3 Memories’ by clicking on the share option of the drop down menu.

This week we go back to a little bit of Science and investigative skills. What do you wonder about? There are so many things I wonder about as I experience the world, what about you? I want you to pick something you wonder about and investigate and experiment until you find some sort of answer. It might be that you make something or write a song to teach others about it. Look below for some inspiration in the form of a song, a video clip of questions and a photo of Steph’s wonderings a couple of weeks ago when she wondered about how clouds were formed on a wet weekend.

Saying goodbye for now

On Thursday Year 3 will all be saying goodbye for now as we head into our Summer holidays (on Friday there will be home learning challenges, but it will be slightly different - a little like the Health and happiness week where there was whole school family challenges to complete). Therefore we will use Thursday to say our goodbyes and see you soons to each other. Today I would like you to make a short video wishing everyone a good holiday, telling everyone what you are going to get up to and that you will see them soon etc. That will be our way of ending Year 3 as our little community. Please email your videos to me and I will make them into a little movie of everyone, it will feel like a big end of year hug when we watch them on Thursday. If you feel too shy to make a video you may instead want to send a photo holding a piece of paper with the message you want to say - make sure your writing is big and bold enough.

Year 3 Meet the teacher week Friday 10th July

Activity 1: Getting to Know you.

We are going to learn a new skill alongside getting to know you today. I am going to teach you how to make a quiz on Purple Mash. You can do a quiz about yourself! I will take it and see how I do!!!

Or you can do a quiz on something that interests you. I will model it in the video, then you can have a go.

Activity 2: Our learning skills - Resilience.

Watch the video about Sadie Spider today. She has an excellent approach to learning.

Activity 3: What we do in Year 4 - RE

Our school mission statement is ‘You are Precious in My Eyes.’ This statement is what God is saying to all of us. Watch the video below to see how precious you really are in God’s eyes.

Our school mission statement is not just about how precious you are to God. It also means that we must treat every other human being as precious - because we are ALL precious. No matter how old we are, where we live, what colour our hair is, what our personality is like - EVERY PERSON IS PRECIOUS and we strive to treat them like that in our lives.

Now create a school poster with this statement from Isaiah - YOU ARE PRECIOUS IN MY EYES. You could copy our school logo from the school website. Maybe you could do it in lots of different blues to represent our school.

Whilst you are drawing talk to a grown up. If you are so precious to God then everybody is precious to God. Therefore, how should we treat other people?

Extra Activities today

1. Can you build or draw a spider web? Use your creativity to design one.

Why not put Sadie in it and her motto ‘Try, Try Try!’

2. Purple Mash 2do ‘AFish- matic’ This is a great game to play to practise your calculations. You need to make the target number by selecting the right calculation. Practise practise! This is a good one to do over Summer to practise your times tables.

Activity 1: Getting to Know you - Your hobby!

Today, in Purple Mash, I would love you to make another slideshow. You did a brilliant job on Monday!

This time I want it to be all about a hobby that you have. This can be anything. Maybe you love football. Perhaps you love to bake. Are you a dancer or a gymnast? It could be something you are really interested in like dinosaurs, star wars or flowers. I want you to do a slideshow all about one hobby/passion.

I am so excited to find out what you really love!

Go on your Purple Mash 2DIY 3D and watch the video to tell you how to create a 3D maze. Like Clara Clownfish, see what you can notice and figure out for yourself as you create your own plan of your maze. When you press the play button, it will turn into a 3D maze! Like Lizzie Ladybird, see if you can make it better and better!
