We hope that you have all enjoyed your learning this week. You have made us all so proud, with all of your home learning. Please remember to say a big “Thank you” to all of your parents for all of their help. They are doing an amazing job!

You have sent me lots of photos and I have made them into a little movie for you. I hope that you like it.

I hope that you all have a lovely half term rest and you are ready for more learning after the break. Don’t forget to look out for the Health and Happiness activities during the second week of the half term.

To all Year 4 parents and children,

These last 10 weeks , although challenging, have also been ones of great achievement, self-reflection and growth. I have loved seeing you learn together with your families and I have been truly touched by all your wonderful efforts. It has been a privilege to lead your learning during this time and we have had great fun- I loved all your limericks this week and now I can’t stop rhyming! Thank you for sharing all your lovely work and your family experiences with me over the past few weeks. Children - I miss you a lot but I am very proud of you. Parents, thank you for working in partnership with us to provide the best possible learning experiences in this strange time!

Next week, we are all having a week off. A rest! There will be no home learning but I advise you tick along with that reading (in the sunshine hopefully) The following week, is our Health and Happiness week. There will be lovely activities you can carry out with your siblings/family to help keep us healthy and happy.

Story time with Barbara

Well, it is half term next week and you will be able to rest and relax with your family, this Summer 1 half term has been jam packed full of learning and we are really proud of how you have met the challenges we have set you. Year 3 Thursday 21st May home learning

Did you know crocodiles cannot sweat, they release heat through their mouths? Cool fact! Well done to Steph who correctly answered yesterday’s question about crocodile teeth.

Tomorrow

A note about tomorrow, as it will be a little different. There will be some special challenges all about our amazing NHS. These challenges are designed for teamwork, so get siblings and grown ups involved.

It is nearly half term, so you should be able to find lots of time for reading each day, keep up the great work with the reading year 3. A big well done to Kiefer for meeting his target, good work!

Reading

Continue reading and quizzing on books using the Accelerated Reading and Epic Reading resources. Help can be found in the ‘How to help your child’ section of my page if you need it.

Remember, you should be reading for at least half an hour each day. Also try to read both a range of fiction and non-fiction books.

This clip becomes progressively more challenging so will require ongoing discussion with an adult, though you may not choose to watch it all! After each point made in the clip, pause to explain and discuss with your child. Use the opportunity to expand on technical vocabulary, e.g. display, insulation.

Reinforce your understanding by now watching Look Closely at Feathers – Nat Geo Kids. (Be warned, the narrator talks very fast! Hence, you may want to watch this more than once!)

Read together pp12-13 of the RSPB Nature Birds Guide by clicking the front cover opposite.

Read particularly closely the sections ‘Feathers’ and ‘Moulting’. Discuss all the new found facts you have learned about feathers.

Following your discussion, write some of your own sentences about feathers. Imagine your information on feathers is going to feature in a book about birds for children your age. Check for punctuation and spelling together.

Maths

Today you have a Fractions assessment to complete. As last time, I would like you to send me your mark please and let me know how you found it. What do you still need to practise with fractions?

Then underneath is my video showing you how I worked them out so you can watch this with your ‘purple pen’ in your hand - ready to correct any errors - make sure you understand where you went wrong.

Today, I would like you to write another limerick. This time it could be about anything of your choice. It could be about you! It could be about a brother or sister (as long as it is kind!!) It could be about a pet, a book character, your favourite food, a star wars character, the weather, lockdown, a learning character, your favourite animal…

I have set it on Purple Mash again and this time I have done more than one page in case you are really inspired and want to write lots. Here is one about my favourite animals - I can’t stop thinking in limericks now!!!!!

My favourite animal is a hummingbird,

Next a pufferfish, then owl coming third.

I do like a seahorse,

And cats of course.

Jinxy cat heard that and just purred!
