Welcome Back!

It was wonderful to see so many smiley faces walking through the door on Monday morning, eager to start a new half term here in Year 2. The week has flown by, and before the blink of an eye, we’ve arrived at Friday again! The children have amazed me with how focused they have returned to school and how quickly they always adapt back to our school routines and expectations.

Flash Cards

A few children have now learned ALL of the flash cards. This is a HUGE achievement and I am incredibly proud of their hard work and determination. When Goldilocks went to the house of the bears, oh what did her blue eyes see?

Welcome back! I trust everyone has had a restful week and are raring to go?

We started this with great enthusiasm as we started exploring traditional stories. The children decided Goldilocks and the Three Bears would be a good place to begin our journey. We read the story and thought of a plan.

Everyone said that the bears liked porridge and we should make some at nursery. One friend suggested that as Goldilocks made lots of bad choice we shouldn’t allow her into nursery. The children then made signs for the door saying 'No Goldilocks allowed’!

Other ideas ranged from making honey sandwiches for a teddy’s bears picnic to putting a video in the tree house to make sure Goldilocks didn’t come into nursery when we weren’t here. Watch this space……..more news on this to follow!

Next week we will be following all the children’s ideas to see which direction they take our learning in. It’s all very exciting!

Don’t forget Lenten Mass will begin next Friday at 8 am in the school hall. Please come along and join us.

Finally, a reminder that the Book Fair will be in the school hall (after school) on Thursday 5th March, Friday 6th March and again on Monday 9th March. Try and pop in.

Rest and be thankful.

The last week of this half term was one of the busiest and most exciting with our E-safety day and a visit from the inspiring Craig McCann to add to our already jam packed timetable of fantastic learning.

Year 4 started online safety day with a puzzle created by Bethany and Lucinda our class digital leaders and this led the children and Mrs Mather to some in depth discussion about our online identities. As the day went on with quizzes, self portraits, role plays and word art the children showed real maturity to discuss the issues which affect them in the digital world we live in. Well done Year 4.

Half Term Already!

Wow what an exciting week in Year 3 we have had this week! We started the week planning and producing the last outcome of our writing process of the ‘snowman’- many thanks to Amber and John Joseph’s parents for delivering the DVD at such short notice, you really did save the day! We have been focusing a lot of our attention on the Romans this week and had a wonderful school trip on Wednesday in Lancaster. The children have learnt and gained so much from this visit.

On Thursday we welcomed Craig McCann to school and we had a great time although the exercises were really hard!! The children loved being in their chosen sports strips and I know they found meeting the athlete extremely inspiring. Thank you for all the money raised through your sponsor forms.

I just want to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you for all of your support since September, your children have been a pleasure to teach and I have loved every minute of seeing them grow and blossom. I know this will continue as they are in great hands for the rest of the year, although I will miss them all dearly. However I will make sure I keep in touch and have promised to bring the baby in to meet them all.

Can I also thank everyone for their kind words, well wishes and thoughtful gifts for the start of my maternity leave, it is much appreciated.

Take care and have a lovely half term.

AWARDS

Thomas thank you for being such a resilient Sadie Spider on Thursday during our coaching session, your determination and your ‘I CAN’ attitude was lovely to see.

The other reward went to the whole class for making my time in Year 3 so special. They have grown so much in their learning and maturity and I am so proud of what they have all achieved individually.

REMINDERS

"Rest is as important as working hard"

The half term holidays have arrived and my goodness, the children most definitely deserve a break! This week has been an incredibly busy one, with lessons changing a little due to Safer Internet Day on Tuesday and our visit from Paralympian Craig McCann yesterday.

Safer Internet Day is always great, as it gives us all time to stop, discuss and really think carefully about how we are using technology and how we can keep ourselves safe whilst doing so. This year we looked closely at our online identity and what this looks like for each of us. We then thought about the digital footprint we create whilst using technology. I really do encourage much more conversation around this at home as it such a current but important topic. Children are using technology and devices much more in their daily lives, and it is up to all of us to help and educate them into using these amazing learning platforms safely and appropriately.

I know that, like myself, the children found the sessions with Paralympian Craig McCann truly inspirational yesterday morning. The enthusiasm in the hall whilst the class completed their four athletic challenges was a joy to witness and the encouragement given to others was a delight. Craig then led an assembly and told us all about his hopes, dreams and challenges he has had to overcome in his life to help him to get to where he is now. He left us all with one simple message - never turn down an opportunity given to you, it may never come round again!

In amongst all of these different activities, the children have also completed superb learning in usual lessons. The class have finally finished writing their own Frog and Toad adventures in English and began looking at the new topic of shape in maths.

I hope that you all have a wonderful break and manage to spend some quality time together as families. Have fun and stay safe.

Miss Woodend and Mrs Connolly
