This week we have innovated our story maps ready to write on Monday. Please could you practice and rehearse your story map so that you are very familiar with it by Monday. You may even want to add some adjectives or improve verbs if you didn’t get chance to in class. Please make sure you stick to the story though as this is crucial to our writing stage. Below you will find the original story that has not been innovated, in case you need a help in hand to remember…
Please complete the following areas over the next few weeks. We will be checking that everyone has completed them after the Easter holidays …
Home learning is set every Friday and is to be completed by the following Thursday.

I hope all our mummy’s enjoyed their Mothers’ Day surprises. The children were so excited to give them to you, especially the chocolates!
You will have noticed that our new outdoor areas are now complete. We officially unveiled the bridge and took turns to walk across it. We all agreed it is much “bigger” and “higher” than the previous one. We love it!!! The children now would like a tunnel which they could slide inside…no pressure!

Well it’s been another fun packed busy week in nursery. The children have been busy making colourful Easter cards and beautiful Easter light catchers that are currently brightening up our nursery windows and making it look like church stained glass windows.
We have been building bridges, walkways and all sorts of balancing apparatus with our new wooden planks and building resources. The children have been practicing their fundamental movement skills over the past weeks and it is noticeable how good their jumping, hopping, running and catching and throwing is getting. We have had great fun using the parachute with games such as cat and mouse, teddy bounce and catching the air inside the parachute to make a huge balloon. We also have introduced our giant outdoor stretchy band. We played Sally go round the moon, stretched the band into an enormous circle and then let it go….wow it was very springy!
The children have been asking to play lots of board games (Snakes and Ladders is a firm favourite). Our turn taking and dice skills are just getting better and better.
On our new stage area outside the children has been a huge success. On Thursday the children performed an act for their friends. Britain’s got Talent here we come! We thought we would video the next performance and then you can watch too!

Worship
We continue our journey through Holy Week. The children now confidently recall the events leading up to Jesus' death by crucifixion and His Resurrection. Click here to watch a video of the Easter Story.
Each day we have tried to be a little bit more like Jesus and our Lenten Heart is overflowing with smiley faces, one for each act of generosity, gratitude, kindness, love, helpfulness and thoughtfulness. Also, thank you for your kind generosity, our Lenten collection now stands at £119.58…fantastic! Thank you so much!
Each day, rain or shine we have completed our Cafod Walk against Hunger. Click here if you would like to find out more. The children have been stoic in their determination to walk and to help others. We are so proud of them all.

After Easter Hannah will be moving next door to work in Reception. This is a huge transitional asset for the children who will be going into Reception in September.
Just like all of the nursery team I’m sure you would like to wish her well. Although she will be greatly missed in nursery, we will still be able to see her over the garden wall!
For the Summer term I will be taking over Hannah’s key group, supported by Justine. We will have a fabulous time, I can’t wait!
Next week I will be sending home some fun activity sheets for the Easter holidays, I hope you enjoy doing them. Watch out for them in your child’s book bag.
Finally, we break for the Easter Holidays on Friday at 2pm and return on Tuesday 19th April. Have a lovely weekend everyone and we look forward to seeing you on Monday.

What an exciting week we have had! What with 2 swimming lessons, practising for our Easter assembly and a great school trip as well - we have been kept very busy and have learned so much!.
Children were so well behaved on the school trip. It was fantastic to hear them noticing all the things learned about in Science - spotting weathered rocks and theorising which type of rocks different buildings were made out of and why. The excitement at seeing fossils on the front was just magical! Also we managed to have an ice-cream with 4 different choices of sauce!
History has been brilliant this week as children interpreted evidence to explain about King Alfred - how great really was he. We definitely have some budding historians!
In English this week, we have been learning about 2 formidable and contrasting characters in our novel - the goddess of the Emerald lake and Razvani the Fire-Fiend. Children were really putting their Year 4 writing skills to the test to see if they could create a picture in the readers’ heads using all their techniques and of course choosing vocabulary carefully.
In maths, we have learned about multiplying with multiples of 10 eg 5 x 70 and we have learned to make the answer 10 times or 100 times bigger. We have learned the 11x tables which were easy! We have also done the 12x and we have moved on to multiplying larger numbers by partitioning - eg 57 x 6 = 50 x 6 and 7 x 6.
This week, our certificate winners are as follows:
A Roger Robin certificate goes to Lily-Mae for being a person who always strives to do good and notices the good in others too. You can always be trusted to be mature and sensible. You are self reflective and try so hard to improve. You are a role model in our class.
A Roger Robin certificate goes to Charlie who was Lily-Mae’s partner on our school trip and also our cameraman! Super pics! You can always be relied upon to be mature and responsible Charlie. You again are a compassionate and caring member of our class - another role model!
A Sadie Spider certificate goes to Leon for really try, try trying to do super work and listening carefully. You are trying so hard to improve in so many ways.
Swimming stars were Stanley, Christian, Daisy, Tabby, Molly-Ann and Ruby-Lilly.
French stars were Millie and Lily-Mae. What great pattern spotters you were when learning forms of french verbs.
Music stars this week were Alex and Stanley.
SWIMMING IS NOW FINISHED FOR THIS HALF TERM. We are not going after Easter but will return on Friday 10th June after the Spring bank 2 week holiday; for the final half term.

To enhance our History learning, children will be able to dress up for the day as either Anglo-Saxons or Vikings!
Have a lovely weekend with those beautiful children of yours.

Read moreThis week has been an incredibly busy one! I have been blown away by how well the children have learnt their lines for our Easter assembly and I know how excited they are to perform for you on Monday. We had our final dress rehearsal this morning and the children performed with great confidence and passion - I can’t wait for you to join us in school on Monday to see just how much they’ve grown! Please keep practising saying those lines clearly and loudly over the weekend!
In amongst the practising, we’ve also completed lots of great learning. In English, we brainstormed lots of creative ideas for who else Plop the baby barn owl could meet in the story and what they would teach him about the dark. I was amazed by the children ideas; from the tooth fairy to trick or treaters, and angels to wizards, I can’t wait to see how the children will use their ideas to write their chapters next week.
In Maths the children have learnt all about halves and quarters. They are able to confidently recognise these in shapes and are beginning to develop strategies to help them when finding fractions of number. We’ve been using pizza and cake representations to help us with our learning and the children had a bit of a light bulb moment this week - the larger the denominator of the fraction, the smaller the equal part!
In Outdoor PE we have continued to develop our bat and ball skills. We started by working in partners to pass a shuttlecock to one another before moving onto a tennis ball. I have noticed HUGE progress in both the children’s catching skills and their ability to strike successfully using a racket - well done Year 2!
Yesterday afternoon, we enjoyed another child-led worship centered all-around gratitude. The group shared the story of Jairus’ daughter before asking their peers if they had ever felt grateful. Thank you, children, it was such a lovely worship. I’ve also attached photographs of last week’s child-led worship below.
What a Focused Cooper Crab you have been this week Louis! You have tried really hard to manage your distractions in every lesson and have listened really carefully to the learning taking place. It’s been wonderful to see you taking ownership of your own choices and really wanting to please by making positive choices within our classroom. Well done!
Wow Lorenzo – you have been such an Enthusiastic Bobby Bee this week! You have really thrown yourself into your learning and have kept going and going when things have been a little tough. You have been an absolute delight in our assembly rehearsals, really trying your best to stay focused and singing out with great enthusiasm and passion. Thank you Lorenzo!
As you know, up to two people from each child’s family are able to come and watch the children perform on Monday 4th April at 9:10am. The gate at the school entrance will open just after 9am for you to take your seats. Please complete the form below so that we know how many chairs to put out in the hall. Thank you.
Due to other assembly practises taking place in the hall, indoor PE will not be taking place on Monday and Tuesday. Please can all children come to school in their full uniforms on Monday ready for our assembly, but if your child is a disciple, please could they have their PE shorts with them.
Year 2 trip to ‘Bring Yer Wellies’ - On Thursday 12th May, Year 2 will be going on a trip to Bring Yer Wellies in Preston. Here we will be planting different seeds and learning all about plant growth. The cost of the trip is £16, to be made via ParentPay. More information regarding the trip will be given after the Easter holidays.
Well done to Harcourt and Plessington for being awarded the most learning points across the school this term. You can come to school wearing your house colours/own clothes on Friday.
School closes for the Easter holidays at 2pm for Harcourt and Marsden and 2:10pm for Plessington and Bamber.
Have a lovely weekend.
God Bless.

Read moreWe are doing quite well in class - so far we have walked 612km. However, we need help to meet our target! Why not go on a walk this weekend with your family and measure the kilometres? You can include all family members’ kilometres. Tell us how far you went in total on Monday and we will add them to our total.
11x and 12x tables booklet to complete - the more work you put in, the more confident you will be.
This week TT Rockstars has been set to 11x and 12x tables
The assembly is shaping up well! Please make sure you know your part and the song ready to perform on Wednesday. Remember 2 members of your family can come. It begins at 9:10am.
Time for you to do a little research. You will already know quite a bit about Anglo-Saxons, but to finish off I would like you to read about aspects that interest you from the site below.
I have set you a task in Purple Mash to write an information book about Anglo-Saxons. Make sure it is in your own words—no copying and pasting!
You could have a different subheading on each page. See if you can now become experts! Please include images too.
Science
On Thursday 8th April, please can children bring in a small (sandwich bag size) of soil from their garden or local area. We will be studying the samples on a lesson about soil.
We have been learning versions of the ‘ai’ sound.
Carry out the tasks set in Charanga by Mrs Maddocks
One week left to meet your reading target this half term. Many of you are very close. Some have met it twice over now! Keep trying.
With just 5 and a half weeks until the end of year assessments, we have ramped up learning in class. The children are very clear about what they need to do and the areas that they need to develop. I have updated the ‘How to Help Your Child’ button on the Year 6 page. There are lots of resources for the children to access as well as the revision boxes that are in the classroom.
Maths - Please complete the reasoning paper that I sent you home for homework. There is a good mixture of questions in the booklet that will challenge your reasoning. Read the question carefully!
GPS - Have a go at the GPS paper that I have sent you home for homework. I will also be giving you a random spelling test based on the spelling rules that I sent you home in your revision folders.
Geography - Edinburgh
Imagine that you have visited Edinburgh for the weekend. Write a postcard back home telling them about all of the wonderful things that you have been up to!
Dear Parents,
Schools in Lancashire are being asked to take part in the National Vision Screening programme. At Our Lady’s this will take place with Reception children on Tuesday 5th April. Below is further information for you to read. If you are happy for your child to take part in the programme next week you need to take no further action. However, if you would like to opt out please see the button at the end of this blog and return the signed letter to school.
We send our love to all those poorly children at home and wish you all a quick recovery. Children, we are all missing you!
What is vision screening?
Vision screening is when a specially trained person checks your child’s vision to make sure they can see without any problems. The aim of the service is to detect reduced vision early, to reduce the risk of defects developing into visual impairments if left untreated.
What is involved with vision screening?
Your child’s vision will be assessed using a letter matching test. The test is fun and your child does not need to know their letters to complete it. During the test a pair of glasses with one eye blanked out will be used or an eye patch will be placed over one eye to test each eye separately. The test is entirely safe and children enjoy playing the letter matching game. It takes approximately five minutes and the screener is trained to make this fun for the child.
Who does the screening?
Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust provide specially trained vision screeners go to every school in Lancashire and see children in the reception class. As NHS staff they are all DBS checked, (Disclosure and Barring Service. This check was previously known as CRB, Criminal Records Bureau).
Does my child have to be screened?
No. However, we strongly recommend that your child is screened for vision defects; however you have the right to decline the assessment. No screening will take place without your consent. A letter will be sent home with your child informing you about the screening; this is an Opt-out letter and only needs to be returned if you do not wish for your child to be tested. If you do not receive a letter please ring the school for a copy.
What happens if my child is absent on the day of screening?
An appointment will be offered at a local health centre for your child to be tested. A member of the vision screening team will send an appointment letter to your home address for this.
Services provided by:
East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust and Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
What will happen during the vision screening assessment?
Your child’s vision will be assessed using a letter matching test. The test is fun and your child does not need to know their letters to complete it. During the test a pair of glasses with one eye blanked out will be used or an eye patch will be placed over one eye to test each eye separately. The test is entirely safe and children enjoy playing the letter matching game. It takes approximately five minutes and the screener is trained to make this fun for the child.
What happens if my child passes the assessment?
If your child passes you will receive a letter informing you of the result. This means that at the moment their vision in both eyes is as expected for their age. This result does not rule out potential future eye problems. Children’s eyes change as they grow so if you have any concerns about your child’s eyes at any stage in the future, contact your local optometrist (optician) or GP.
What happens if my child does not pass the assessment?
If your child does not pass, you will receive a letter informing you of the result. Your child will be referred to your local orthoptic department and you will receive a letter in the next few weeks from the hospital inviting you to an appointment for further tests.
It is important to attend the appointment for further tests to confirm your child’s results and if treatment is required. Reduced vision may be caused by the child needing glasses or a turn in the eye (squint). Glasses and/or eye patches may be recommended as treatment for these problems. These tests could be carried out by an Orthoptist, who manage visual disorders related to eye development or misalignment, an Optometrist who can prescribe glasses if required, or an Ophthalmologist, depending on the results of the screening.
Sometimes a child does not pass the screening because they are tired or not able to concentrate on the day of screening. If the vision screener feels this may be the case on the day, you will be asked to attend another appointment for a recheck.
