Fun is just another word for learning!

Well Year 2, we’ve all made it to the end of the first summer term! I always love this term in Year 2. It’s the term where so much independence can be seen and the children begin to show just how ready for the juniors they are. It’s also the term where learning from the year seems to come together.

The children have grown their brains in so many different ways this week! From working co-operatively in outdoor PE to completing some super creative writing in English - it has certainly been a jam packed week! Playtimes have been filled with such kindness and compassion, which has been lovely to see. The class are really thinking carefully about the strategies they can use in order to solve problems independently and are treating each other with great respect. Thank you Year 2 - it has been a delight to be on the playground with you this week!

Each day of the week has been jam packed once again with super learning here in Year 2! We have been celebrating lots of star readers as more and more of the class are getting 100% on their quizzes. The children have now come to realise that taking their time whilst reading really helps with their understanding. It’s been so lovely to see so many proud faces as their quiz scores have popped up on the screen. Children who get three 100% quizzes in a row then become our star readers and are able to read in our class tent during whole class reading time … I think we’re going to need a bigger tent!

What an amazing week it has been here in Year 2! It has been lovely to see so much love and compassion amongst our class team this week, with the children making super choices and spreading so many smiles. We continued our 'how to treat others’ learning in RHE, where we watched several scenarios and decided whether the actions of the children made them a good friend or not.

It’s hard to believe that I am writing the final blog of the half term! Where has the time gone? This term has certainly been different and not without it’s challenges, but I really couldn’t be prouder of each and every child in Year 2! Everyone has been on their own unique learning journey and my, what a journey it’s been! You’ve problem solved, gritted your teeth and worked incredibly hard. The standard of the work produced has been great and that’s down to your focus and determination. Most importantly, you’ve all remained so positive and have spoken to me when needed.

Well, I think this week has been the best one of remote learning YET! The enthusiasm oozing from both home and school is amazing and the work produced is brilliant. We’ve fully got our teeth stuck into TT Rockstars now, and my, what fun it is! If you haven’t yet managed to get yourself logged on at home, please do. Already, just after one week, the children are so much more confident on some of their tables and are keen to learn more.

What a great week of learning we have had in Year 2! I have been so impressed by your Purple Mash skills this week and how confident you are becoming at handing in your work. I know that many of you have had to be ‘Don’t Give Up’ Sadie Spiders when technology might not have worked just quite how we would have liked, but you have all stuck with it and had a go! I can’t wait until we are back in school all together when we can use our new computer skills to showcase our super learning.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t to be, but already the children have shown just what resilient and strong little people they truly are!
