Dear all,
There is growing concern amongst the community regarding iGas/Scarlet Fever, we have placed here the guidance school has received to share with you. Thank you for always communicating with us illnesses and absences. This is so important as it helps us to build a picture of the whole community and from this we are able to take any action should it be required.
This week we have continued our Science topic, looking at the structures of a variety of common animals and discussing the similarities and differences. We have also grouped these animals into carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.
In RE we have been discussing Advent, we know it is a time when we prepare to celebrate the birthday of Jesus. We created our own advent wreath and discussed that the circle of evergreen branches is a reminder that God does not change. A new candle is lit each Sunday during Advent until all four candles are burning. Each candle has a different meaning. The final white candle is lit on Christmas day to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Each Monday we are lighting our candle to show the passing of time and our closeness to Jesus’ Birthday.
We have also discussed the journey Mary and Joseph took to Bethlehem and that the shepherds were the first to hear about the birth of Jesus. We interviewed the shepherds. Year 1 asked them lots of curious questions such as:
How did you feel when you saw the angels? “We felt shocked and surprised.”
What did the angels tell you to do? “The angels told us to go and find baby Jesus.”
How did you get to the stable? “We followed the star in the sky.”
What was it like when you saw baby Jesus? “It was wonderful and exciting!”
When you left the stable, what did you do? “We told everyone the good news.”
We have enjoyed lots of practical Maths this week investigating the number 10. We also finished off our measuring unit by asking some challenging questions such as can you find me something that weighs more than a glue stick but less than the scissors? Which is longer three rubbers of two pairs of scissors?
On Thursday when we arrived to school, we discovered an advent calandar and some wrapped presents. Each day two children will get to open the advent door for a treat and to find out what our advent promise will be for the evening or the next day. It may be something like saying hello to everyone or helping out at home. Ask your child if they can remember what the advent promise is for the day? We found out that the presents are Christmas books and we are excited to find out what book it will be each day and listen to a story before we go home.

From next week if your child has something exciting to share with the class such as a recent certificate or medals. They can bring them in to share with the class on Fridays. We are looking forward to hearing your exciting news.
On Friday 9th December and Thursday 15th December we will be walking to St Annes beach for our Geography topic to identify human and physical geographical features along the way. The class will be going in two groups of 15 children. The rest of the class will be in school with Miss Lavelle. The class will be leaving school on foot at 9:10 am and will return on foot to school at around 11.30am.
Children will not need to bring anything extra with them for the visit and should come to school in their normal uniform. If you do not already have wellies in school please can your bring in a pair or bring in suitable footwear such as trainers or walking boots, as we will be going on the beach. Please ensure your child has a warm coat as we will be outside for the whole trip.
Please bring in spare clothes for your child, especially now the weather is wet. So they can get changed if they fall over and have wet clothes.

Our Nativity performance at school will be on Tuesday 13th December and Wednesday 14th December at 9:30am.
If you haven't already please bring in an addressed envelope with a stamp. For our topic we will be making Christmas cards for another child in our class.
On Friday 9th December we can come into school in Christmas colours or a Christmas jumper or decorateyour clothes for Christmas you can choose. In return please can you bring in at least £1 so that through CAFOD, we can buy animals for people in need.

This week we continued with our science activities focusing on animals, we have identified and classified them into: mammals, amphibians, reptiles, fish and birds.
In RE we learnt about Mary’s visit to her cousin Elizabeth. As soon as Elizabeth heard Mary, her baby leaped with joy. Elizabeth said that Mary and her baby were very blessed by God. We reflected on the good news and drew a picture of Mary and Elizabeth and explained what had happened.
We have continued measuring in Maths, we love all the practical activities and when we were weighing we discovered that sometimes the biggest object isn’t always the heaviest. We have also been focusing on the number 8, ask your child how many different ways they can make 8? Or if I have… how many more do I need to make 8? Practise the stem sentence 8 is made of ….. and …./…. and …. make 8.
Today we had a whole class art lesson together, we create our own winter trees, don’t they look amazing :).
We had our fifth KidSafe session this week about what to do if your trusted adults are arguing and how this can make us feel. We also recapped the last four sessions and the children evaluated their understanding of this important learning.

This week we have been busy with lots of different science activities. We have: discussed signs of Autumn, have started a daily weather chart, used our senses on our Autumn walk, tasted crisps, labelled our body parts and even investigated if you are the oldest in the class you will also be the tallest, as you get taller as you age. We discovered that just because you are older, it does not mean you are taller. We all grow at different rates and because we are all unique, we are all different height. This also linked with our RHE lesson about our bodies. We have also picked our class tree to observe through all of the seaons.
In Maths we have been comparing objects and saying if they are longer or shorter, we have loved all the practical activities and comparing a range of objects.
We loved Wednesday, we were inspired by gold medallist wheelchair rugby champion Stuart Robinson. We supported Year 2 and loved cheering and waving our flags to encourage them to keep going with the activities. We were very resilient and kept going even when we found it difficult and were hot and tired. Reception and Nursery then came in to support us while we completed our challenges. After the whole school came together for an assembly, where Stuart told us his amazing story of his determination and bravery. We all agree that anything is possible is you put your mind to it and do not give up! Please can you bring in sponsor forms and money in on Monday, thank you :).
We had our fourth KidSafe lesson this week. We discussed the importance of keeping our bodies safe and what to do if we have those yukky feelings. Please read the letter below to find out more.
We loved our PE session today we started our Gymnastic unit, we walked tall like gymnasts and performed a simple routine, four steps, a pencil roll, caterpillar walk and a jump. Miss Liddell and I were very impressed with the children’s routines.

Thank you for everyone who brought a £1 in for Brian House, we have enjoyed wearing our Pyjamas and loved listening to a story with our teddies.

Art project – Thank you for those who have already brought in lots of cereal boxes. Mrs Neves, our art teacher, is running an art project and needs your rubbish! She has asked if over the next week or so, Year 1 could bring in any empty cereal boxes, they have planned what they will be making next week. I am excited to see their final products.

What a great start to the week, with our class assembly, all the children were brilliant. They were clear when saying their lines, didn’t need any reminders to come on the stage and sang beautifully. I am so proud of all the children, they all worked incredibly hard well done!
In Maths we have been busy leaning about odd and even numbers up to 10, we discovered that even numbers all have a pair and odd numbers have an odd one by itself. Ask your child if they can tell you about how they know a number is odd or even. We also compared objects using measurement, we set up different stations for the children to measure practically. We measured height, weight, length and distance.
We read the book Dangerous by Tim Warnes in English and learnt about nouns and adjectives. We used nouns to label things inside and outside our classroom. We all wrote adjectives for our main characters, we will use these next week to write sentences about Mole and Crocodile.
We have loved our Geography lessons this week, we discovered we live in the continent Europe, we found the UK on a world map and learnt about each country. What can you remember?
This morning, we gathered as a class to share a Remembrance Day prayer. We remembered those who have fallen in war and conflict and said prayers for all those who need our help around the world. We watched ‘Poppies’ and drew our own poppy fields. The children had a choice of using crayons, water pencils or oil pastels to create their artwork.
We had our third KidSafe lesson this week, where we learned all about how to keep ourselves safe when using technology. Please read the letter below to find out more.
On Thursday 17th November at 6pm, we will be welcoming both parents and children into school for a Curriculum Evening where there will be a variety of interactive stations around school for you to engage with. These activities will share information regarding aspects of our curriculum, our school’s virtues and Read Write Inc Phonics.
This will be a wonderful evening and an exciting opportunity for you to learn more about our schools curriculum and how we can work together to support your child throughout their learning journey. We are really looking forward to coming together as a whole school community once again to share how we promote that love of learning in the children.

On Friday 18th November we are having a pyjama day to raise money for Brian House who support children in need in our local area. Children can come to school in pyjama’s and trainers and we kindly ask that they bring a £1 donation which will be given to Brian House.
As explained in a previous message sent out by the school, Stuart Robinson will now be joining us in school on the morning of Wednesday 16th November for our sport session.
Reading Books - Polite reminder that reading packets and books must be brought to school each day so we can read with the children in school. Thank you for your support with reading at home, it is really important that they have regular opportunities to read and build on these skills.
Art project - Mrs Neves, our art teacher, is running an art project and needs your rubbish! She has asked if over the next week or so, Year 1 could bring in any empty cereal boxes/cereal bar boxes All will be revealed to the children in their next art session! Again, thank you in advance!

Welcome back, what a busy week we have had, we have been practising our class assembly every day. We are excited for you to watch us on Tuesday. I have been very impressed with the children learning their lines, and they have been working hard on making sure their voices are loud and clear, they have been brilliant!
As it was All Saints Day on Tuesday, we have been inspired by the Saints, we learnt about a different Saint each day: Saint Clare, Saint Pio, Saint Frances, Saint Martin and Saint Therese. We attended Mass on Tuesday to celebrate all the Saints . The children sat and sang beautifully and it was lovely to hear positive comments from other members of the church about our children.
The children are enjoying their phonics sessions and are making good progress, keep reading lots at home and please remember to bring reading folders in every day.
Today we discussed Fireworks and Bonfire Night and how we can all stay safe, we were excited to have Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 together. We enjoyed our creative activities and we learnt a poem!

In Art we learnt about Andy Goldsworthy and how he uses the environment to create his own art work. We went outside and created some wonderful art using resources we found outside.
Well done to these children for super listening during our assembly practise, they know their lines, when to come on the stage and have supported the children around them.

Our Class Assembly is on Tuesday 8th November at 9:10 for KS2 and 9:35 for EYFS and KS1, you can stay for both performances if you would like. Please continue to practise lines and songs.
On Friday 11th November, we will be visited in school by Stuart Robinson. Stuart is a gold medal-winning Paralympian, who represented GB in the recent Olympic games in wheelchair rugby.
Stuart’s visit is part of an event for Sports for Schools. This is an opportunity for the children to take part in a sporting event organised by Stuart, and to then hear about his story as part of an assembly. He will be with us all afternoon. This event is also an opportunity to raise money for our school - for PE, Sport and Active Learning.
The children have all brought a sponsor form home for them to collect as many sponsors as they can before the event next Friday. Please can all children come in their tracksuits on this day - Friday 11th November.
On Thursday 17th November at 6pm, we will be welcoming both parents and children into school for Curriculum Evening. We’ve been unable to hold the event for the last couple of years due to Covid, so we are looking forward to comingtogether as a whole school community once again to share how we promote that love of learning in our children. It was a lovely start to the week, we celebrated the Harvest Mass together at church. The children sat and sang so beautifully and it was wonderful to see some of our food donations on the altar. Afterwards, we thought about those in our community who may need our help and reflected on how lucky we were to have lovely food.
Thank you to all the parents who joined me on Monday for Parent’s Day it was lovely to discuss how well the children and doing in school and the progress they are making. They have all setting in really well and we are enjoying our learning.
We have been Kiki Chameleons in English this week by creating our own story maps for Supertato. We then retold the story using our story map and made up our own actions. Didn’t we do a great job!
In Maths we have made groups of ten with lolly sticks and introduced doubling numbers up to 10, we played a dice game where we rolled the dice, drew the correct amount of dots in two boxes and worked out the double.
During our KidSafe lesson this week, we learnt about the word bullying and what it means. We used the acronym S.T.O.P. to help us to understand that bullying is when something happens Several Times On Purpose and they now know what to do if they ever feel they are being bullied and have those yukky feelings in their bodies. I can’t believe that we have reached the end of our first half term already.
The children have worked very hard and have settled in well, they have particularly enjoyed our topic Supertato and it has been wonderful to see all of their hard work at home. I am looking forward to our next half term and our Class Assembly and our Nativity performance.

Read moreWe have had another exciting week in Year 1.
In English we thought about how we could trap the Evil Pea. We had lots of great ideas such as hiding in the classroom and throwing a blanket over him, making a trap with a rope and net, we decided the best way would to be make jelly and trap him, like they do in the book.
We loved making jelly, we all worked hard together and then we wrote up the instructions. The next day we discovered that we had caught the Evil Pea Army. We had lots of ideas how they managed to get stuck in the jelly such as: using the jelly as a trampoline, singing with their eyes closed and not seeing the jelly and eating the jelly and getting stuck.
We have been counting up to 100 in Maths can you practise this at home? We have used the rekenreks and concrete apparatus to compare numbers up to 10. Using the language greater than, less than and equal to, to make these comparisons.
Also, this week, we started our Kidsafe programme - A series of lessons which teach children about keeping themselves safe
This week, we focused on trust and completed a trust building exercise. We also thought about the Feelings we get when we are feeling sad, scared and/or worried and how we more listen to what our body is telling us. Please read the letter below, explaining this approach and the first lesson in more detail.
Our music lessons have been great we have loved learning this song and we were excited to record our performance for the blog.

What an exciting week, we though of questions to ask the Evil Pea and wrote them on our board. When we came back to school the next day he had visited our classroom again and answered all of our questions. We have been checking around school to make sure the Evil pea is not hiding. Some of us thought he may have come home with us and is hiding in our rooms! Watch out for the Evil Pea we are excited for next week, we are going to think about how we can catch the Evil Pea.
We also retold the Supertato and Evil Pea chase, we had lots of fun and used great language to retell the story.
In RE we thought about how people can spoil God’s world and we discussed how we can care for it, we all made posters to help encourage others to look after our world.
We have loved our practical Maths lessons, we have been comparing objects and working out which group has more than and which has fewer than. We discovered it was easier when we put the objects into a grid so we could see without having to counting them.

· If you have any spare boys underwear, we would be grateful if you could donate them to our class, as we do not have many spare at the moment.
· Please can you return any borrowed uniform back to school as soon as possible.

When we arrived a school we discovered a crime scene in our classroom, somebody had snuck in during the night and destroyed the fruit and vegetables! We noticed sand on the table and on the floor so we think the intruder came in from the back door!
We thought about how the fruit and vegetables would feel and why. We then decided we should make posters to see if anyone had information about the crime scene.
We put some of our posters up around the school, we let lots of people know what had happened in our classroom. So they can tell us if they find out any information.
In Maths we have loved completing lots of practical activities with numbers up to 10. We ordered them drew pictures to represent the number, counted out a specific number of objects, matched the words to the numerals and found the missing numbers.
During RE we have learnt about Adam and Eve we acted out the story. We thought deeply about why God was disappointed by their choices and thought of some questions to ask them:
Why did you listen to the bad serpent?
How did you feel when you ate the fruit?
Why did you eat the fruit when God told you not to?
Why did you not listen to God?
Why did you hide from God after you ate the apple?
We thought of a time when we made a good choice and discussed it with the class.

This week we have started our class story ‘Supertato’. We have only started reading the first 2 pages so have been making predictions about the story and discussing the characters we have met so far. We have been thinking about how they are feeling and what has happened to them. We loved our drama session Miss Liddell was Mrs Carrot then a few children wanted to be Mr Broccoli. We had to think of questions and if we were Mr Broccoli then we had to think of what he would say. The children though of some excellent questions and I was impressed with Mr Broccoli’s answers, well done!
During R.E. lessons this week we have begun to explore our understanding of ‘God’s Great Plan’. The children have been thinking deeply about all of the beautiful things God had made in our world. I wonder if they can spot any more beautiful things over the weekend?
In Maths we continued grouping different objects, counting objects from a group of 10. Finding 5 in the numbers 6,7,8,9 and 10 and representing numbers in different ways.
We have loved our different continuous provision challenges this week, this is a great chance to develop our independence and practise skills taught in our lessons.
Well done to our last week awardees for being a Kiki Chameleon and being creative with our Maths grouping, by putting the objects in groups of 5.
Copper Crab- Well done Jude for setting a great example to the rest of the class as he always listens and makes good choices.
Todays awardees are a Lizzy Ladybird for a super week reflecting on themselves and working hard and Bobby Bee for being enthusiastic in her learning this week, well done :).
Each week a different child who has worked hard, will get to take our class dog home to look after over the weekend. Henry loves going on lots of adventures. We hope you have a lovely weekend with Henry, we can’t wait to hear what you have been up to :).
Congratulations to our Year 1 Class Councillors. This is a big position of responsibility; I have no doubt that you will both rise to the challenge! Well done to all of the children who put themselves forward and spoke to the class about why they would like to be a Class Councillor too, we were very impressed with all of the speeches, the children then voted.

We have had another busy week, in English we tasted different fruit and vegetables and described them using our senses.
We then used our word bank to compose our own fruity poem, we created our own actions and performed it.
In Maths we have been continuing focusing on 5, how we can make it using different resources and how many more we need.
Today we started sorting objects into different groups, we were impressed with how creative some of the children were when grouping their objects. We will contine this next week.
It was lovely to meet so many parents on Wednesday, thank you for coming. It was great discussing the year ahead and the learning journey the children will go on in Year 1.

Welcome back, I hope you have had a lovely summer holiday. Miss Liddell and I are very excited to meet you all again and we have a busy half term planned for the children. Next week we will focus on settling in and learning about each other. Our induction evening will be on Wednesday 14th September at 6pm. We are looking forward to welcoming you into our classroom.
Here are a few important reminders:
Our PE days are on Mondays (outside) and Fridays (inside) we will start our PE sessions on Friday 9th September. Please come into school in PE kits on PE days. If your child wears earrings, please remove them before they come to school on these days.
To ensure everything comes home, please label everything that comes into school. All items of uniform, coats, PE kit, lunchboxes, water bottles, wellies etc.
Please send your child in with a bag with spare underwear, socks, tights, trousers, skirt/pinafore etc. in a named plastic bag just in case of any accidents. They will be kept on your child’s peg.
Art sessions will be every Friday, please can you bring in an old oversized T-shirt to keep in school.
Finally if you have any spare underwear, socks etc. we would be grateful if you could donate them for our class.
