Sports' Day Special!

As promised last week here is your Sports’ Day Extravaganza!

I know many of you were disappointed not yo have been able to attend our sporting event of the year but we have taken a huge amount of photos for you to get a ‘feel’ of the day. The children were very excited to be assigned a school ‘House colour’ to compete for.

We had:-

Red- Plessington

Blue- Harcourt

Yellow-Bamber

Everyone was super competitive, each team really wanted to win the cup!

Mrs. Greghan was our compere for the afternoon, the flags were up and we competed to the best sporting music from yesteryear! The scene was set!

Didn’t we have fun! I do hope you manage to get a feel of what was a truly fantastic day. The children all loved joining the main school. In fact they are still talking about it! It was so much more exciting than the Euros!

You will be pleased to know that Miss. Lavelle (the Reception teacher), is as we speak compiling a video of all the Key Stage events from throughout the week (including Nursery). When it is complete I will post it for you all to watch!

Finally, I can announce the overall winner of the whole weeks events….it is Plessington. Well done Plessington!

Year 6 Home Learning - Wednesday 16th June 2021

Next week we will be starting our local history unit of work on Blackpool, but what do you know about the history of Blackpool? How did it become the seaside resort that it is today? How did the iconic landmarks get built and when did they get built?

I have set you a To Do on Purple Mash for you to record your findings. Don’t forget to use images to support your research. Think about the detail needed and how you will present your work.

Reception Home Learning 11.6.21

Country Research

This morning, we have done a Reception sweepstake ahead of the Euro 2020 Tournament starting this evening. We had lots of drum rolls and excitement as we each picked a team. I have asked the class to research the country they have chosen and write down one fact and draw a picture with a label.

They could think about flags, location, geography, food, the possibilities are endless!

We will add these facts to out wall chart display next week. Please send the facts in via reading folders by Wednesday (16th).

As always please let the children write as independently as possible using the sounds they know. Some words might look strange to me and you but they will be phonetically correct!

Fundamental Movement Skills

Our sports day will take place on Monday afternoon, we have been practicing all week. Over the weekend the children could sharpen up their rolling a ball technique ahead of Monday’s fun!

We are happy to be back together again!

Welcome back! I trust everyone has had a restful break?

We have all hit the ground running this week, blessed with the glorious sunshine.

This half term we will be exploring and investigating the mini beast world. Have a quick look at our plans.

We began our investigation by watching a short video all about ‘What is a mini beast. Click here to watch. We decided that we already knew quite a lot! Everyone thought it would be a good idea to make a display using mini beats resources and factual books. These would help us to learn lots of new facts.

We then took the viewing tubs and magnifying glasses and went on a bug hunt in the garden.

As the weather was so warm we got distracted and hot so we all went paddling to cool down. Wow, that was such good fun, even though we did get very wet!!

To mirror our new learning of ‘lots of water’ Clare suggested painting shells so we could make an under water mermaid lagoon. Fabulous!

You can never have too much water play! Look at our fantastic water machine we made! The children worked so hard to join pieces of tubes and guttering together to direct the flow of water. Once more very wet, but great fun!

The children were very excited when we had a delivery of linking blocks to help with our number work. There are soooo many! We measured each other, made shapes and one friend counted the bricks to 33 all by themselves!

As has become a regular feature here are all the other activities and learning that has taken place at nursery this week. We made a sand café, mark making and picture making (a firm favourite), big building with soft shapes. physical activity practicing for Sports Day and then just having a jolly good time with our friends. I hope you enjoy looking at them.

Two final things to share with you.

Next Monday afternoon is Sports Day 1.30 -3.15 pm. All the children are invited to take part but I am sure you will understand that owing to Covid parents will not be able to attend. Don’t worry, we will take lots of photos. If it is not your usual session, please make sure that your child is in nursery no later than 1.15 pm and then collected promptly at 3.15 pm. Could all children please wear shorts, t-shirt, trainers and lots of sun cream!

Lastly, I would like to say a BIG welcome to Hannah who has joined the nursery team this week. She has been a huge hit with all the children, I’m certain your child will have told you all about her. Hannah will be working in nursery on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and all day Wednesday. When you see her say hello and introduce yourself.

The Nursery Team

Year 4 blog "Oh sunshine! The most precious gold to be found on earth!"

What a lovely, sunny first week back! Children have settled back in seamlessly to learning.

We have dived into our new topic about Vikings - discovering why they have such a bad reputation and whether it is justified. First, we turned our classroom into the English Saxon shore where we worked as Anglo-Saxon spies to discover what Viking boats were like. Then the class captured a Viking boat builder called Sven - who told us even more (Mrs Lyons was strangely nowhere to be seen!) Later on in the week we found out more about the Viking era and what evidence has shown us about what they were like. Next week we will write non-fiction books about them!

We have also begun our first week thinking of our of ‘Health and Happiness.’ We have been learning about Road Safety and the Green Cross Code. Children have learned about safe and unsafe places to cross and how to make sure you cross safely.

In maths, we are continuing to learn about shapes but also we are consolidating all Year 4 maths learning from this year. Children have also seen a return to French this week and thoroughly impressed Madame Jefferson with all they have remembered.

Thomas - again you have been so determined to do well with your learning this week. You have shown such enthusiasm for all learning so you have received a Bobby Bee certificate.

Kai - you have received a Roger Robin certificate for being such a sensible, mature young man and such a kind, supportive friend.

PE stars are Jacob M and Amber. Super teamwork and effort!

Music stars this week went to everyone for being wonderful!

Notices:

Next week we have our Sports afternoon on Wednesday. Children will be taking part in the usual sports day activities and will need water, sun cream and sunhat.

Therefore PE next week is on Tuesday and Wednesday for all the class - not Thursday.

Holy Communion takes place next Saturday 26th June and the following Saturday 3rd July. Father Peter came into school this week to speak to Miss Hornby regarding current church protocols. We will send out a letter with these protocols in place for you next week so you can be clear about what to expect.

Year 3 11th June 2021 "Believe in yourself every single day and you will be unstoppable"

Well, I have to say the children have come back after their half term break, totally refreshed, bursting with enthusiasm and excited about the learning that they are going to be doing over the next half term.

We had an absolutely wonderful start to the week with 2 children - Franek and Daisy getting their pen licenses within the first quarter of an hour of being in school. What a start and it has set the tone for the rest of the week, with lots of hard work and enthusiasm. We have started our new English unit of the Spider and the Fly and there has been much excitement and chatter about spiders since then (a few jumps too - including from myself!!) I think we are going to enjoy this unit. The children have also come back into school very excited about their reading. Already we have quite a number of children who are well on their way to reaching their reading targets having read lots during the holidays and then quizzed as soon as they have come back into school. In Maths we have been really practising our number skills and thinking about quick recall. We have also been thinking about our place value and where about on the number line different numbers go. We have started looking at the preparation lessons for Holy Communion. The children have all brought home their “Called to His Supper” books and will need to complete this over the next few weeks. Our virtues for this half term are generous and grateful. The children have been reflecting on the gifts that they have been given by God and thinking about ways that they can be generous and share these gifts with others.

Let’s Celebrate:

This week we celebrate Owen and Rosa who have reached their 100% reading targets already. Wow -you have been really busy reading and quizzing, well done.

We have celebrated more pen licences this week, starting first thing on Monday morning with Franek and Daisy and then Owen gained his pen licence during the week too. All of these children are now able to use a pen in their written work. Well done children - keep up the lovely handwriting.

This week we our certificates have been awarded to Tabby and  Charlie.                

Tabby receives an Enthusiastic Bobby Bee certificate for her enthusiasm and cheerfulness this week. She has come back to school like a little ray of sunshine, ready to share her thoughts and ideas with everyone. Well done Tabby. You have been a little star this week. Charlie also receives a Bobby Bee certificate for his cheerfulness and enthusiasm this week too. Charlie, you have been so positive and happy to share this week. You too have been bubbly and enthusiastic and ready to share with others and ready to support them too. Well done Charlie. keep up this good work.

Lunchtime Role Model of the week went to Max and Jacqui’s Marvellous Manner went to Tabby. Well done to both of you. These awards always make us so proud.

Things to Note:

• Father Peter has arranged to come into school and celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation with the children on June 23rd. Hopefully the children will be able to celebrate their First Holy Communion at the beginning of the Autumn Term, provisional details will be sent home shortly.

• Our Sports Day is on Wednesday next week. Please make sure that the children have shorts and t.shirts, (tracksuits if cooler) a cap/sunhat, sun lotion and a water bottle. There is no PE on Monday or Tuesday next week as other classes will be completing their sports day activities. Unfortunately with restrictions still in place, we will not be able to invite parents this year but we do promise to take lots of photos.

• PE on Fridays is going to be outdoor PE this term so please make sure that the children have trainers and their PE kit. Many thanks. (Monday and Tuesday outdoor PE lessons will continue as normal—just not next week.)

• Leo has misplaced his swearshirt. Please can you have a look at home and return it to school if you have the wrong one. We have looked in school and haven’t located it. Many thanks.
